just an honest question....

why does every thread title need a personal excerpt?

in my opinion, this is what keeps NeoGaf, well....., NeoGaf. every single thread has a stupid tag attached to it. stick to the facts and leave your personal beliefs to yourself. this trend is a downward spiral.

Someone has never beat Halo 1 on legendary.

I wouldn't mind choosing the number and type starting grenades being an option.

I also wonder just how viable it is to add in modifiers to player traits (e.g. health, shields, damage etc). They managed to pull that off in CEA through skull, though whether that was by altering the various multipliers of values that the original engine supported, or through other trickery, I don't know. It would be an amazing addition if possible though. Even if it's relatively basic compared to the ridiculously detailed settings in later games.

I like the idea, but I think this would mean duplicating a lot of weapon sets, unfortunately. It's the sort of thing that could have been easily fixed in Forge.

Edit: what about the option to start with no weapon? Easily done by modding back in the day. Fun for certain custom games.

Edit 2: Actually being able to alter all settings from the main lobby would be great. I'd also port over as many options from later games as is practical.

There are some player modifiers in there already. It would in theory be possible to add more options to that without having to implement as a whole new feature.

The issue with backporting stuff to Halo 2 and Halo 3 is their game engines were hard coded, so any new gametypes have to be hardcoded in as new. Whereas technically you could backport most Halo 4 gametypes that don't need Halo 4 objects to Reach, since they're both scripted gametype engines.

Also, if the bug survives the port, you can have no weapon in Halo 2 without modding:

1) Make an Oddball gametype
2) Set Plasma Pistol as the starting weapon
3) No weapons on map
4) Stand next to the Oddball. Charge up the PP, then pick up the oddball while letting go of the trigger. You should toss the oddball and the plasma pistol at the same time. Now you'll have no gun. (if you walk over the PP or the oddball at this point, you'll automatically pick them up)

Uh it's from the legendary ending of Halo:CE. So it's a nice touch to fans of the series. Nothing about facts, personal beliefs. Also, it's been going on for far longer than either of us has been here, so how is it a trend? And what do you mean, this is what keeps NeoGAF, NeoGAF? I didn't realize that some words after the end of some mega threads were keeping the site from becoming what it could be.

Lol what is this?

Yeah, gametypes I can see being a problem, but it would be great if it were possible.

What I would have thought is that backporting several weapons from other games would be possible. Sure, some would no doubt require engine support to be added, but weapons like the H1 pistol and Assault Rifle should be extremely easy.

I'd have thought that the Spartan Laser would also work as well, given that it's essentially a sentinel beam to the engine.

I can imagine them being very useful for customs. Who knows, they might even be useful for the odd matchmaking game as well.

Yeah, I think the RvB guys used that for filming, right? Would be nice to have it as an option as a "starting weapon". The Sentinel Beam as well, now I think about it.

Man, if you got me listing stuff I'd like to see in a magical ideal world, I'd be here all day.

Edit: Has the topic of service tags come up yet? Would be nice if they could alter H2's method of using player symbols to that...

You should do your research before making such a comment.

I want terminal/turf :(

Since I haven't given my list yet, here's what I'd go for:

1. Lockout - Halo 2's best map and easily one of the best in the series. Several 1-sided games play very well, but excelled with Slayer, Oddball, and KoTH. No brainer
2. Midship - The second best map in H2 and the best symmetrical map. Lends itself to a wide variety of gametypes
3. Zanzibar - A classic for 1-sided objective games.
4. Ivory Tower - Good for 1-sided games, and slayer.
5. Turf - One of the more unique maps in the series.
6. Waterworks - Unfortunately the netcode and lack of good hosts for 16 player games in H2 meant this map never got to fill its potential in my opinion.

(yes, I know Ascension/Lockout/Zanzibar have officially been announced, but I can still give my dream list!)

Bonus maps:

7. Terminal - Hopefully without the train magically killing you due to lag this time!
8. Sanctuary - A great symmetrical map
9. Warlock - A classic arena map. The default weapon spawns in H2 did suck, though.
10. Relic - A map which worked surprisingly well in both 8 and 16 player games, and a nice 1-sided map to add.
11. Backwash - Call me crazy but I always did have a soft spot for Backwash. I loved the aesthetics of the map, and found it to be a pretty unique experience.
12. Beaver Creek - Would have been higher, but the Reach remake put me off this map for some reason.

If we're doin this...

-Ascension
-Lockout
-Zanzibar
-Terminal
-Waterworks
-Sanctuary

That's what I want, but I have a feeling Coag will get remade. I'd also like Turf but there isn't enough room. DLC plz.

If sticking to the facts is important to you, then you should have looked up where the thread title came from.

Edit: On topic, I can't wait to start getting into pistol battles in Halo CE multiplayer matches. It's going to be so awesome finally playing that game over Xbox Live.

I never manged to get many matches of Halo CE. Most of my friends got into Halo with 2 so that's when the LAN parties started for me. I did manged to get a few to play Halo with me but only 3 player free for all. I've also never played the PC maps so this is gonna be awesome for me.

It looked a hell of a lot like Halo 4 to me.

I agree, it basically looked like H4 in 1080p @60fps. That is not necessary a bad thing as Halo 4 looked amazing on 360.

That being said, I do hope they change up the look of Halo 5 a bit to keep it fresh. And I don't think I will be disappointed, 343i is a very talented studio, and so I have confidence that H5 will look amazing.

Well it's by Certain Affinity and they are using the Halo 4 renderer according to Frankie, they are also using the Halo 4 Spartans. I imagine they decided to just go ahead and make the 6 remakes in the Halo 4 style and this means nothing for what Halo 5 will look like artistically or graphically.

These will be the six maps. I considered Midship over Waterworks but they probably need at least two BTB maps in there. Midship got a good remake in Halo 3 anyway. (so did Zanzibar, but, yo, it's fuckin Zanzibar)

I sense a bad vibe when people refer to "The 6 maps look like Halo 4."

That game was absolutely jaw-dropping, I hope Halo 5 looks similar.

Terminal works well in BTB.

Frankie. I'm having visions of Big Team Battle across all 4 games. I am happy in ways you can't imagine.

I only ask one thing of you for Guardians: Please change the warthog sound back to the old version! The new one in 4 just can't compare. It was too beefy. The warthog is my smooth sliding dominator and needs its engine to sound like it!

Thanks for keeping Halo awesome (I love them all!) and keeping up with your fans.

Sets of 2 maps that excel in each proper mode

2 team slayer maps
2 assault maps
2 ctf maps
That should be pleasing for everyone since some of them work with a nice mix either way

My guesses

1. Ascension
2. Lockout
3. Zanzibar

should be givens.

After that all bets are off,

4. Ivory Tower
5. Midship

6. Headlong or Waterworks

If I was picking

1. Lockout
2. Midship
3. Sanctuary
4. Ivory Tower
5. Zanzibar
6. Ascension

Wasn't there an image somewhere that seemed to show a remade Waterworks as one of the maps that is being remade for the Halo 2 Anniversary Edition? I could be wrong.

Hey Stinkles, what's the 343 presence going to be like at RTX. I saw you guys are doing a panel on Saturday the 5th, will TMCC be on the show floor?

I hope it doesn't. Halo 4 had a very "next-gen" look to it, that I didn't like. Overemphasis on Browns, yellows, and cool blues. It's hard to explain, and I've talked about it in the HaloGAF threads. But the one thing I loved about older games was the abundance of color, the neons, green, purple etc.

There was this washed out look to Halo 4 I didn't like. Don't get me wrong, what they did with the game was great, especially on such ancient hardware. But like compare the "look" of Valhalla  in halo 3 to Ragnarok in halo 4. Obviously Halo 4 has much better visual fidelity, but do you see what I mean by the tint/lighting?

And it's not unique to 343, I saw a lot of this in games like Mass Effect 3, like the Firebase Jade level set on the Salarian homeworld. With the lighting, the colors become a bit washed out. Bright and deep red becomes like an orange etc.

I have no doubt that Halo 5 will be one of the best looking games of next gen though. They have a lot of talented people on the team and a new powerful console to take advantage of.

Hopefully this means we're done with remakes. Going to be a hard sell to justify remakes when you can play all of the maps, unless they start pulling maps from Reach.

Who cares? It's a stupid tag just like you said. It had no effect on the quality of the posts which is what really keeps NeoGAF, NeoGAF. Not that that's really a problem most of the time.
