I don't see them doing DLC in smaller packs. I'd see them doing DLC in bigger packs, like $20 packs of maybe ~5 characters, a stage for each, and some items, trophies, stickers, CDs, etc. I'd love if they could support the game with updates and DLC all the way through the end of the console's lifespan, but that's way too optimistic.
No Lucina would mean a very sad Horizon.

It's not about relevancy. If we look at every Smash roster, there are characters that were basically unknown to most when first seen (FE characters), lost relevancy due to lack of games (Megaman), or not that popular anymore, at least to new audiences(Pac-man). As long as Sakurai is directing Smash, characters will never be too irrelevant to enter his roster.
If Sakurai wants it, he will just bring those mentioned characters on the first go. No need for DLC. Just have this huge roster from the start and all is set. I bet Sakurai does not want to be stuck managing DLC character development after Smash is out in the market.
For DLC, it really does not mean everything will be paid. For DLC trophies, they can just have them free, or have them accessible from Amiibo of other games. For paid DLC, stages and/or music will be fine for me.

-we get Fox's new costume from the Wii U Star Fox

I've followed a lot of products that had some aspect of them leaked but I gotta say, the leaks with Smash 4 have to have been the worst (probably because the hype cycle for this game is so long). These leaks have been AWFUL and I kind of now wish they never happened. Nintendo HQ must be furious :/
To be fair though, knowing there are likely DLC coming helps alleviate the sting of knowing the final starting roster. Also Chrom looks lame given all the FE choices available. There, I said it, sorry.
Also, can somebody explain that Reggie gif to me? Unfortunately I missed all of Smash today because I was at a World Cup Party (and then went out afterwards).

Sakurai was going to reveal someone. This morning when he woke up, however, he heard of a certain leak. His first thought was to blame Afoni.
The interesting thing is, however, that the leaked character wasn't the one Sakurai was planning to reveal!
Now that it's been leaked he's going to go with them instead though...

I've pretty much lowered my expectations so much so that if a DLC character campaign is done, the only character I'd want and would make me totally content if nothing else changed is Takamaru. Everyone here knows the kinds of characters I'd support in an optimal environment, but I want a samurai more than anything and Taka's pretty much the highest billing for that role since Lyn is an old guard member from a now fully represented/high billing franchise and I can't think of anyone else that'd bring the combination of franchise history and moveset potential with their inclusion.
Mike Jones is the unattainable but not forgotten dream pick for me.

I don't remember anything that specific at all, just the devs post on the official sega boards and one of the posts was along the lines of "we were going to do a PSO stage but then we decided to do the make the space stage something from Sonic Colors"
Because they were looking for unique characteristics for each stage, yet I found it funny that it basically implied PSO track had to have a space theme.
It was pretty intense all the way through. I was a little sad that both M2K and PPMD had to get bounced early (I really wanted to see more Marth in top 8), but Hungrybox was on fire and Mango's Mango.

DLC the right way would be characters sakurai didnt have time to finish, more costumes and alts, maybe a stage or 2, more music and whatever sakurai didnt get time to add.
Not to add characters that would be better to add in smash 5
