First impressions of The Last of Us: Remastered (Game Informer)

Am I the only one annoyed that there is $70 worth of DLC that is not included? I kind of assumed that a remastered edition of a past gen game would have everything.

if the Master Chief Collection can do it, I don't see why The Last of Us can't.

So let's say the framerate isn't "locked" and dips into the high 40s or 50s in certain conditions, are we still going to claim that this remaster is a tragedy?

I do think the game is a rock solid 60fps. I think ND put the 30fps option in there for those people who don't like the smoothness of 60fps. There is indeed discussion whether 60fps is cinematic or not especially after TR DE which gives the soap opera effect. For this reason I think ND built the option to turn it off.

Is this sarcasm? I can't tell.
If it's not, then Naughty Dog/Sony need to add "now with Cinematic option" to their box art and marketing.

I feel they had difficulty maintaining 60fps.

We'll know soon enough. DF interest has piqued.

Well, yeah. The angle a lot of people will take is that the PS4 is so weak it can't even handle 1080p60fps versions of PS3 games. Actually, people are already doing that elsewhere.

I personally think it'll run 60fps just fine, but if it does end up being sub-60, it'll be a shitstorm for sure. It's already stirring out there.

I wish the term 60fps locked went away. Stable or capped are more appropiate. The game would have to run at above 60 fps to not dip below 60 fps during hectic moments. And I'm pretty sure Corrine Yu tweeted about working hard on pushing the game past 60fps. Gee I wonder why they would do that. I'm guessing because the game has a wild fluctuating frame rate.

People already have their own conclusions about the 30FPS lock but no impressions has actually come out about the framerate being unstable or hard to maintain at 60 correct?

Which will be patently ridiculous. The framerate dropped into the twenties routinely on PS3. This game is running at twice the framerate and double the resolution with other enhanced effects. If the framerate falters to the 40s under high stress conditions are people really going to lose their minds? Sad for them, if true.

I can understand being disappointed if this was the case, but to call it a tragedy? Give me a break.

If the game is stable 60fps and the 30fps lock is just there for people who like "filmic" framerates I hope this doesn't become a trend, we should be making people get used to better framerates again, this in turn will increase everyone's standards and more 60fps games will get made in response.

I am thankful for the locked 30 FPS options in games and majority of the time I play it in that mode.

60 FPS in games not initially designed for it make me ill with the soap opera effect and the inconsistencies. Although I played through tomb raider DE I was nauseous the entire time I played it.

For those that want to play with some additional insight, you'll be able to turn on commentary. Creative director Neil Druckmann and Troy Baker go behind the scenes as you're playing.

Fuck your 30FPS cap drama. This shit is awesome!

Yeah, no one has actual confirmation of anything. The two sides are "why add a 30fps lock if you're confident that your game runs at a steady 60fps, this means that this is gonna be like infamous and killzone" and "they wanted to add an option for people who prefer 30fps (which is harder to believe)"

There is no actual footage for anyone to confirm for sure.

I like the idea of more console games offering the option to lock FPS or change resolution.

FFXIV for PS4 did this as well, I believe.

come on now... joking aside, can we reach a uniform point where we will agree to not have these stupid words thrown around?

I dont believe that there is a single player that prefers half the framerate over double the framerate!

this probably started as a defence force for something, but having to discuss about "people that prefer half the framerate" all the time is way beyond joking material in a forum as this one.

I'd like to put this thing to rest for eternity. its just so stupid of an argument to make.
these forums are better than that.

Woah, dude....."making" people? Why? Choice is king. There's nothing wrong with giving people the choice, even if you think that the choice is wrong.

60fps all day everyday.

Have to agree with dark10x, the PS4 should be running this at 1080/60 without a sweat...even with the updated features.

You realize that porting a code base designed for the cell processor to a modern x86 machine is going to be incredibly difficult right? Doesn't really matter how powerful the PS4 is if they hit a technical limitation in the way the code has to work at some point.

I have faith in ND....but, this doesn't sound good with the option to lock to 30fps, so I am thinking this will be along the lines of Killzone: SF, where sometimes it will run at 60 while the majority being 45-55. Should have been expected, especially due to the differences in architecture between the ps3 and the ps4.

I hope the 30fps lock is for the cinematic doofuses. If not and the frame-rate dips below 60, I hope it's at least as good as BF4 and Tomb Raider DE in making me not notice the stuttering as much. The stuttering in Infamous and KZSF drove me nuts.

Speak for yourself. Dark Souls is absolute sex at 60 fps.

It's more than likely an unlocked framerate north of 45-50

Except that a member of ND tweeted that they've put in a lot of work to maintain a constant 60, and Corrinne Yu mentioned getting it to run past 60 to that same end. You never heard anyone from Sucker Punch or GG say the same thing about their games.

Considering the vast majority of us have experienced the game and have recollections and memories in our mind, replaying them over again in 60FPS might be jarring to some. People on twitter already said it was odd and initially hard to get used to how it looks. Personally I can't fathom it, but maybe some people are just extremely sensitive to it for some reason.

Either way you can't dismiss it, to some it's like watching movies with the "smooth" feature enabled on 120hz TV's, or watching the Hobbit on 48FPS.

I guess the framerate will be like Second Son then. Stable 30 and unlocked 60....which is not what I expected tbh. I hoped it would be solid 60.

Of course not. But there are many players who believe that they prefer half the framerate.

CYBORG must be praying to Hirai that this game dips consistently in framerate.

AFAIC, TLOU offers everything there is to be offered. Including Left Behind.

It comes with the DLC. Included is:
  • Left Behind single player expansion
  • Abandoned Territories multiplayer map pack
  • Reclaimed Territories pack

I don't know why people are so eager to put a stake in the ground on this. Can't you wait two weeks? If you are wrong you are going to look so dumb for nothing.

I'm still hoping for a stable 60 fps, but if it dips into the 40s on occasion, that's fine too. Still a big improvement over the PS3 version. The only real disappointment is that I still have to wait two weeks to play this again.

I belive the "I am thankfull" part of my post was in fact me, as an I, speaking for myself.

*anyways as I said unless the game is designed for the 60 FPS then to me it looks cheesy. There are plenty of 60 FPS games that look amazing and I enjoy without issue. The fact that 30 FPS is an included option proves they are sticking with their original design choices because of how 60 FPS can adversely affect things for some people. I have never been one for resolution, FPS or whatever numbers people focus on constantly in videogames. If it looks good, feels good then it is good. To me shoehorning in 60 FPS in a game that untimely does not need it to improve the number folk out there usually has more complaints than praises due to studder/dips and overall weird feel.

*I am speaking for myself

* as in me

I wish people would stop doing this. Please don't make it sound like those two are the same thing. Motion interpolation looks ugly and fake in comparison to true 60/48 fps.
