I thought you were referring to respected outlets when you cited "the media", and not a source like TMZ, which is why I asked you for the first source. How in the WORLD would someone from Crystal Dynamics find out before vultures like TMZ? Or Huffington Post?
Think about that for at least thirty seconds.
When i click on the linked tweets here i can see it just fine, but his main site gives me an error...Shows up for me.
Well, there you go. This is how Microsoft competes. They pay publishers good money to remove games from other platforms while in development.
He seems kinda bitter about it? But how could CD not know about the deal.
Context is key. Expectations and the upending of those expectations is what results in backlash/surprise/controversy.To be fair, every single time they nabbed a third party exclusive in recent memory, there's a negative shitstorm. Even in cases like Dead Rising 3 and Titanfall, when they were directly responsible for the continued existence of those games' development cycle.
Exclusives differentiate you from the competition and give you something unique that can only be played on your system, so it's obvious what MS wants out of this, but I don't understand what Square gets out of this beyond the money. With the PS4 selling as well as it is, and given that the reboot sold better on Sony platforms (based on what someone else posted earlier on in this thread, not sure how accurate it is), I really have to wonder what the hell Square was thinking. Here you have a new franchise that struggled financially and you're going to cut off the majority of people that made it a success? Other than a fat cheque up-font, how does this benefit the franchise in the long run? I just don't get what Square's long-term vision is when they pull a move like this.
Person that told me about many MS 'things' previously is telling me it's indeed a timed exclusive.
Big bad Microsoft is obviously the only one to do this too.
It should really be fixed to take out Destiny, Watch_Dogs, Mortal Kombat, whichever NBA game it's representing, MLB2K unless that's The Show being represented (which it probably is), Elder Scrolls Online, and yeah as much as it hurts Sony fans MGS too, cause none of those games are exclusive. Is the 2014 Tomb Raider even PS4 exclusive? Mural seems like desperate propaganda.
Two petitions, and both from NY. Didn't know that was TR fan central.
And is not the same designed Lara Croft featured in the TR games either, and coming out on other platforms that aren't the PS4.
i fucking hate microsoft now
why dont they just build their own team and develop their own exclusive games??
....Yes? I was just commenting on how people are laughing at Lara being in that mural when the character with that design is definitely on PS4. Obviously that's not a boat full of exclusives as the guy from Watch_Dogs (Watch_Doug?) is there too.
Honestly, "pissed off" strikes me as a bit excessive. I'd stop at "being bummed" as being a response I can empathize with. Honestly, if it were up to me, every game could come out on every platform possible and I'd be happy. But when large corporations are competing directly against each other for a share of the same pie, I've been in this hobby long enough to understand that investments for exclusivity come with the territory. And I'm not saying that everyone else can't draw their own lines on what is and isn't acceptable, but I personally don't see it as a very fruitful exercise to try and delineate between which partnerships were on the up-and-up and which are sleazeball moves made by greedy executives in smoke-filled board rooms wherein I clearly am referring to the kind of smoke that can only come from expensive cigars lit with one hundred dollar bills.
Yes, making the system more attractive to buyers is what they should be doing. Jeez, it's like people forget this is a business. This has been going on for decades. They are competing for money, they are not people's friends. If you want to play the game in Holiday 2015, you can buy and XBO and play it; if not, have fun with the hundreds of other games available. It's not anti-consumer. I feel like people treat this like a holy war or something when it's just entertainment. It amazes me how such an ostensibly hardcore gaming forum gets so tied up in what system a game is on after all these years, when you would think that when gaming is such an important hobby to most members, they would understand the industry and the competition and simply say, "Hey that system now has a lot of games I'm interested in, maybe I'll pick it up", instead of "MS/Sony/Nintendo is an anti-consumer devil who is restricting my enjoyment of my only console; I'll never buy their systems even if they have games I like because I made one choice and I'm sticking to it forever."
"Hello Microsoft, this is Square Enix. We were wondering, do you know any ways we could at least halve sales of Tomb Raider? ... You DO?!"
and there it isPerson that told me about many MS 'things' previously is telling me it's indeed a timed exclusive.
Big bad Microsoft is obviously the only one to do this too.

What a waste of money. I don't think TR will sell Xbones.

I don't think it would be smart from Microsoft to make it a timed exclusive.
After people saw what happened to Ryse and DeadRising I doubt many will buy an XboxOne for a game that'll be on other systems a few months later.
Either full exclusivity or bust.
Basically, they just took millions of fans hostage.
Please tell me for what games Sony bought exclusivity after it was announced as multiplat?
Hmm Im waiting curiously.
I am never going to stop finding this hilarious.
From the top of my head: Everybody's gone to the Rapture.
I thought you were referring to respected outlets when you cited "the media", and not a source like TMZ, which is why I asked you for the first source.
No need to be a dick about it.
I'll take your word for it. They way they've been so vague about this. Made it sound like a timed exclusive.
and there it is
Will buy for $5 steam sale, I guess. I would have probably bought day one too. :
Person that told me about many MS 'things' previously is telling me it's indeed a timed exclusive.
The point is that it will probably remain exclusive for at least 3 years; could release on PC before, but this is what an exclusive is, sorry to break reality on you.
Well, there you go. This is how Microsoft competes. They pay publishers good money to remove games from other platforms while in development.
Threads like this are why I avoid the gaming section so much these days. Lol! I mean, it's exclusive for a few months and I'm sure everyone here will have plenty of other stuff to play by then. Instead, people lose their shit. It's not being published by Microsoft, so it will come out on other platforms (can't wait for PC), just not when people thought. Just think of it as a delay and move on.
