LTTP Saints Row 4.

I was a more casual saints row fan, only playing a little bit of SR2-3 since I got them for free with PS+. I saw that Saints Row 4 was on sale for 13 bucks on PSN, so I thought, what the hell, why not?

First off, the intro is fecking nuts. They throw out as many gags as they can, some stick, some don't, but when they stuck it was funny.

So I started playing the regular mode, premise is like the matrix only a comedy instead of keanu. It was okay...

....but then I started getting superpowers, and holy shit suddenly I am running at superspeeds like I am a lite version of the flash. Haven't done much else besides just running around at super speeds because it's so much more fun than using cars or bikes.

Someone told me that I couldn't fly around like I was superman, I was disappointed at first but the superspeed is just so damned fun that it softened the blow.

I have to wonder what other crazy powers I will get.

Aura powers that burn, electrocute, or heal those around you.

Also you can eventually unlock a dive bomb that creates a nuclear explosion.

You can fly, kind of, once you get the appropriate power-ups. This game is much more fun than SR3. Only thing is the cars aren't really needed for anything except tossing around.

Oh my God

I just took did my first real mission and suddenly I am fighting Doomsday like I am a combination of The Flash and The Punisher.

.........and it gets crazier you say?

I wasn't really into Saints Row games a year or so ago. I tried SR3 with the expectation of some manner of realism and was baffled by the opening to that game.

On a whim I tried SR4 and then something clicked for me. I had more fun with that game than any open world or superhero game I've ever played. After beating it I was able to go back and appreciate SR3 as well.

I hope the DLC came as part of the game because How the Saints Saved Christmas is awesome.

Am I the only one who thought this was pretty awful? I love things like Crackdown, Infamous, Hulk Ultimate Destruction, and I'll try pretty much anything open-world superhero game, but I felt like SRIV was really half-assed. The powers just feel weak, even fully upgraded; you can throw fireballs or do giant stomps and shit, but the enemies just get back up afterwards and the cooldowns are so long. You never feel like an awesome superhero, just a guy who can get a group of enemies down to half-health pretty quickly then finish them off with guns. The game never goes beyond feeling like Saints Row 3 with some mediocre mods that weren't playtested very well.

Worse yet, there are so many self-contained missions that strip you of your powers and usually force you to use un-upgraded weapons, which just highlights how much fun the regular combat isn't. There's that parody on stealth sections in games where they joke about what other developers do but then still make you repeat the whole thing when you fail it. The world's worst bossfight against that giant Saint's Flow mascot, where you just fire a bunch of rockets at him, wait for him to throw you some more and repeat for like ten minutes straight (then do all over again when the game glitches out during the following helicopter rail-shooty bit without giving you a checkpoint, as it did for me). That
2D beat'em up bit
that starts off promising but then just goes and goes and goes until you're completely sick of it.

I really liked Saint's Row 3, but I think they got so concerned with trying to make everything supercrazylol that they forgot to make the gameplay feel any good.

I loved the superpowers, but everything else was pretty shit. The mission design was awful and the gameworld was boring. It felt very rushed compared to SR3. They had the right idea, but this one needed a LOT more time in the oven.

I just started playing SR4 myself, and it sounds like I'm about the same spot you are OP. Thought the game was just okay until I started unlocking powers. Now I'm just totally ignoring the main missions right now, jumping around an beating up aliens with my tentacle sword. So satisfying. Glad to hear it gets even more crazy.

YOU'VE GOT THE TOUCH

As far as I can tell, 90% of the "this game is AMAZING!" posts I've seen are from people who just started playing it. It seems like the novelty wears off pretty fast for most people.

"Aw, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent. 14 percent of all people know that."

Thats exactly how you sound.

Meh.
-Superpowers are fun for two hours or so and then you realize you're playing an ugly game with boring mission design and repetitive as fuck side missions. But you can traverse the city really fast, yay.
-Vehicles are useless.
-Bugs from SR3 are still not fixed.
-Lifeless.
-Humor is not what it was. (still glorious at times though)
-Still basically a glorified DLC at the end of the day.

That said, great villain and interaction between characters.

I was thinking about making a LTTP on this game, but I wouldn't have much to say in an OP besides saying the game is f'n awesome.

Anyway, I recently made a thread asking about similar games to Crackdown, and I gotta say thanks to everyone who recommended it. I love this game. Just started playing it today and it's hard to put the controller down and stop finding data clusters (orbs). Same thing with Crackdown. I've already found over 500 of them.

I'm really liking the Matrix parody story as well, and the alien enemies are fun to fight.

Also, the glide and dash powers really make traversal amazing. I never ever touch cars (haven't driven one since the beginning of the game). I can't wait to go through more of the missions.

Edit: I just finished Saints Row 3 yesterday, and 4 beats it by a mile. They're both better than the second game, though. Saints Row 2, I thought, sucked.

I was with you right up until that last sentence. SR4 is probably the pinnacle of the series when it comes to controls, for me, but SR2 was the best game of the series IMO when it came to both story and overall game design. SR3 was a brutal streamlining of the series; there was less to do and everything felt much more guided.

I would love to see SR5 combine the control improvements from SR3/SR4 and the general design of 2. But I would agree that 4 is superior to 3, and really I feel like 4 more or less eliminates the need to play 3. But 2 da best.

I really liked SR4. But I liked 3 more, I don't know why.
For me it goes: 2 > 3 > 1 > 4

Though SR1 and SR3 are really close. I loved the original's gangs and missions. But the Third had some cool things of its own,and tighter gameplay obviously. I want the gangs back. Really, I am just hoping to hear more Saints Row news some time this year. Would love to see something for Saints Row 5 or even some type of spinoff.

Does Volition still exist? They should TOTALLY make an open world The Flash game.

The best parts of this game have been fighting those really powerful monsters that look like Doomsday. There I go crazy with my powers trying to survive.

This is one of the most frustrating moments in gaming since the last few years:

6d85wmsj.jpg

I tried it nearly a hundred times to make it through the tunnel, but no chance. I figured out how the controls work, but how should I find my way through when I don't even see the death coming? I die permanently without touching the wall. I mean, WTF is going on there?

Any suggestions?

I don't play Saints Row so i don't know how exciting this could be for some of you but there is going to be another DLC in the vein of SR 4 but as a standalone thing coming soon. My most trusted mate was a ****** for it and he feels comfortable in me saying so.

I didn't think 4 was bad, just not as good as 3 which kinda let me down. Mission structure/side missions were similar and so were some of the weapons. I also thought the soundtrack/radio wasn't as good as 3 but that is personal opinion and I do kinda wish they had more variety of cars/vehicles than what was in sr3. Too me 4 felt like a very big addition to 3 that they put out as a separate game.

I wouldn't mind getting more SR content, if true of course.

This litterally took like 3 tries, those things come so slow it's not even funny. The hardest part is the
Zinyak battle since all of those fucking aliens come out while your fighting him and it get's very annoying.

Loved this game so damn much. Really hoping we get another one (I know it's been hinted, but thing happen). Make sure you complete all the crew quests OP, they're hilarious and greatly improve the ending.

Worst design choice in a video game in awhile. That sound that the game makes when your health is low drove me to insanity. For any devs out there, we def do not need an audio and visual cue that our health is low. This single decision in design pushed me away from a game I was enjoying for the most part.

Wait, with super powers you let your health get low? Haha, but you're right. It did get annoying. On the plus side I think I got better at playing games like that so I can prevent it haha

I had an absolute blast with SR4. It might be the only open-world game where I went for 100% of the collectibles.

Slightly funny story - I made it about 3/4 through the game before remembering that you could upgrade your weapons.

Oh my God, while reading this post "The Touch" came on on my Spotify. Fucking amazing.

I loved 4. I never got tired of the powers, so it was the first open world game where I did nearly all the collect-a-thons. The only stuff I didn't do was the stupid race mini-games in the computer world.

I especially loved the insurance fraud stuff. That was so broken, it was incredible and fun as hell.

I also bought it 2 days ago, i love my boss!
Awesome game, i can't stand towers and some other side missions though.

I enjoyed the game overall but man did the last few missions drag on way beyond their welcome. 2 and 3 were far more enjoyable for me overall.

SR2 > SR3 > SR4 > SR1
