Well... I'm sending my PS4 back to Sony

They should send a fixed, refurbished or new one soon though. I just couldn't beat the "auto disc ejecting issue". I tried every trick that doesn't void my warranty, and while all of them worked, they were only temporary.

I normally would just repeat the "fixes" for longer and try to deal with it until there's a slim version, but it's too early. A couple of years ago I would've been annoyed, mostly because I wouldn't be able to play, but I really don't mind waiting now, and I really shouldn't be putting up with a gaming experience like the one I'm having now.

Anyway, this is my first time EVER that I send an electronic equipment to the manufacturer for warranty and I wanted to share it. I also wanted to know if anybody else here had the same issue as me.

I read online and there seems to be a lot of people with the same issue. Aaanywho, I hope I don't run into the same issue (or a new one) when they send my PS4 back.

My PS4 auto-ejected The Last of Us earlier this month. I unplugged it, plugged it in again after 20mins, and it hasn't done it again since. I'm hoping it never happens again as I really don't want to send it in for a fix. But now I'm worried............

Sony were really good with my 5 PS3 returns. Each time they came to my door, collected the old one and handed over a new one, though I understand they do this differently in the States.

They never even asked for a receipt once, only the date I bought it without proof.

I'm having the exact same problem. I tried the screw-turning trick, rebuilding database, removing the small piece that rests below the eject button and the fixes were only temporary. It's very annoying especially because I live in Venezuela and I just can't send the console to Sony for repairs for free and using the warranty.

It's their way of trying to push you into the all digital future! But seriously, that sounds annoying though I haven't heard of this issue until now. I do buy all my games digitally to partially game share with my brother who lives across the country, but I still go retail in some cases, so I hope this doesn't happen with mine. Best of luck in sending it back, hopefully they are better than Nintendo who took 6 weeks to fix the gyroscope on my Wii U gamepad...

had to do it with mine and it was super annoying. Make sure that you take off the "primary ps4 thing" before you send it, I sent mine away and didn't and had to call them so they could reset it for me.

They were nice enough on the phone, but It took 3 weeks total for my PS4 (HDMI issue) to get replaced. I wish they would just send a new one and take the old one like MS does for XB1 (with refundable deposit fee of course). I'm not sure if MS is still doing this or if Sony has changed their replacement policy since launch, though.

So it just ejects discs at random? That sounds pretty damn frustrating.

Yeap. I was playing Left Behind yesterday and all of the sudden the game crashed and the PS4 ejected the disc. Then the disc drives starts to sound like it's ejecting every couple of seconds and it does not stop. I can't insert the disc back in either.

Edit: That wasn't the first time that it happened to me though. It just happened to occurred yesterday too.

I'll probably have to send mine back if it turns out the bluetooth radio in the console rather than the controller is busted.

For being an early adopter the lack of major issues is pretty amazing. I knew from the beginning that it was always possible that I'd have to send mine in at some point.

I managed to fix my ps4 recently. I tried every solution I could find online and none of them worked. I'm not saying it will work for yours, but give it a try and see. Boot the ps4 in safe mode (hold the power button until it beeps for a second time) and reinstall the firmware.

Seriously. That worked for me. Nothing else did. Give it a try.

Thanks. I was going to send it without doing that.

I was contemplating doing that before the box gets here, but my warranty ends in November and I don't want to miss my chance to get it fixed for another temporary fix. Would be pretty sad if the issue comes back the day the warranty ends. haha

I had the same issue, after calling Sony and tightening the screw, it hasn't happened since. Hopefully it stays that way, otherwise i'll just have to send it in as well.

Mine also has done the auto-eject thing but only twice. I have a return coffin but I'm holding on to it until the problem gets worse because Sony won't do anything if they don't find an issue. At least, that's what the Sony dude told me in chat.

I fixed my auto eject issue by moving it away from direct sunlight. It was making the eject button think something was pressing it.

It really is annoying, and it doesn't have anything to do with heat because I sleep with my AC on every night and the room is cold as fuck but sometimes the PS4 starts making beeping noises thinking something is trying to eject a disc.

It could also be that there's a trolling ghost in my room.

Would REALLY like to know what causes this, happend to me several times all I would do was turn off the console unplug it, open the cover and just start blowing it like it was a game cartridge lol it seemed to work but a couple of months later it would happen again.

i had this problem and sent mine in after receiving some advice on gaf. very surprised it only took about 10 days after sending it out to get it back.

only gripe i have is they didnt fix my PS4, and instead gave me either a refurbished or new console. didnt know that was going to happen and a little bummed I lost the pictures and videos i saved on the console. re-downloading all games and game patches was time consuming, but i havent had a problem since. very happy to have this fixed prior to Destiny release.

Had mines since launch. I hope it sticks through the whole generation and the next.

But if it doesn't, I'll probably fish for a customized one.

I did go through 2 dead OG PS3s, so I might not have that kind of luck.

Though, both of my Slims never gave me a problem.

I'm scared.

I was impressed with the quick turnaround on my replacement PS4 from sony. I didn't have this particular issue but something else.

make sure to deactivate it as your primary PS4 before sending it in.

Yeap. I tried unplugging for a couple of hours and putting it vertically, then back to horizontally when it happened again, booting in safe mode and rebuilding database, turning the screw, etc.

I think it's safe to say that it won't work with any of those fixes.

I've been living without my PS4 since last sunday with the same issue. I follow my service ticket by the hour but nothing has happened. This has caused to both miss out on countless hours of The Last of Us: Remastered multiplayer and PSN Outage: Remastered.

I've gone all-digital, and therefore haven't put any game discs in my PS4 since launch. My concern is that my drive is messed up but I won't even realize it for years when I'm watching a Blue-Ray or something. Guess I should test it out... didn't know this was an issue.

That sucks. Thankfully, for me, I don't play much online anymore. I think I haven't played a single competitive online match on the PS4 yet.

Sony does returns fairly well in Australia. They pay for postage and I had about 1 week turnaround with my Vita.

I've had to send mine back twice. First time was at launch (BLOD)...wouldn't turn on half the time. Second time was just about a month ago and it was because the disc drive started making an extremely loud vibrating sound (could hear it from across the room). Both times it took 2-3 weeks from the time I initiated the return until I got my PS4 back and both times I either got a new or refurbished unit.

During this PS4lessness I've taken up Farm Heroes Saga, Zelda: Twilight Princess and finishing up Enslaved on PC. So, it's not all bad.

I discovered my disc ejection error when I was going to watch Iron Man 3 and it wouldn't accept it. Just thought it was temporary and used my PS3 to watch it. Watched another movie a day later and it worked with no problem. Then all of a sudden, in the middle of the night, it decided to start ejecting the disc... but without an actual disc in the machine. So, it just sounded out 3 sharp beeps in the middle of the night with a 20 second interval. Perfect way to ruin a night's sleep. Pulled the plug on it. Tried the screw trick. Failed. It kept on beeping and ejecting after a week of nothing. Then it was off for service.

My launch PS4 went in to Sony with a different issue (would only communicate with a DS4 in safe mode) but it’s just occurred to me that I haven’t put a disc in since the replacement came back. Should probably check it out.

As far as the return process went, it was pretty quick. In the UK they don’t give you a box to return it in, just a pre-paid post label, and getting the packaging sorted out was probably the most annoying part of the whole process.

Hehe exactly. I have a nice backlog of movies and shows that will keep me occupied. Apart from my lovely 11 month old daughter who takes a LOT of my time, and I love it. :)

I'm very unhappy with Sony. My PS Vita has started giving me trouble with the right stick. I've emailed them and I was told that I had to call them - I tried to call them and I was put on hold for 35 min, and afterwards my call got disconnected. Result: 10€ spent on a call that didn't solve anything. I sent another email to Sony support and I was told that since my Vita is imported I would need to talk to Sony Japan.

So I'm keeping my Vita until it's finally unplayable and then I'll fix it myself. Fuck them.

did you try relocating the console, OP?

it sounds like some environmental issue triggering the eject button. those things are sensitive. and dumb.

so it sucks that your vita is busted but honestly what else are they supposed to do? what do you expect? a sony executive to arrive personally at your house to replace your vita?

my PS4 came with the L1 button not clicking, it worked but you couldn't tell when you press it or not, so I called sony to change my controller, they showed up 4 days later take the entire console and left me a new one.

It was a downer but they really took good care of it. Haven't experience any problems since then.

Really?

1) Perhaps other avenues of Support? Blizzard offers at least 3 other ways of contacting them besides phone - which by the way is free.
2) While we're at that, not having a Support phone number that charges an eye for minute, at least not if you're going to be kept in hold for more than half an hour.
3) Better cooperation between regional offices. Not redirecting someone to a different country support just because their item was built there?

I was fully expecting paying for shipping and even for repairs (And keep in mind, I don't think I should - it's a 4 months old console that I babied from the first minute). But the hurdles I have to jump just to get the most basic of supports (broken hardware repairs) is astounding.

ED: And I don't want to shitpost this thread Ricki_R, just wanted to share my experience with Sony's support. I really hope yours is better. I wuv my PS4 so.

Oh shit! Yesterday my disc ejected when I was on the dashboard. I tought I accidentally touched a button or something on the controller and now I see this thread. I hope I don't have the same issue.

I don't understand why console disc drives have so many problems. Most of my console issues last gen were due to faulty drives.

Do they just pick the cheapest ones possible?

Same thing happened with mine a couple days after I bought it. Tried all the tricks, Sony CSR told me that sometimes it's just a faulty BD drive. FWIW, if it's doing the constantly beeping like it's trying to eject, even when there's no disc inside, it's apparently because something in the drive is broken. That's what Sony told me, at least.

I was lucky enough that I could just take it back to Best Buy and get an exchange, so I can't speak to Sony's RMA process.
