This is a rather fun post I saw on Reddit. If you could only choose 1 pack, which would it be?

Ugh. It should be mixed of newcomer and veterans.

Ice Climbers, Wolf, Lucas, Snake, Chorus Kids and Mewtwo.

If I have to chose, then I would pick Newcomer Bundle just for DKC rep, Ridley (my friends) and Isaac

Damn, this is tough. I'd probably go with the new pack just because you can still play as the other characters in previous Smash Bros games, while you can't play as those new characters anywhere.

apparently it was Akibastman, who also got Rosalina (!), Mii, and the new 3rd parties (of course, with many more misses such as Takamaru and Chrom lol)

btw your prediction percentages imply 119 rosters submitted, yet the OP of that thread links to 121 rosters, what's up with that?

I skipped two jokes/troll predictions.

It's a really fun question to me, because each pack has its clear strengths and weaknesses. All in all, I think I would go for the Melee pack over the others. I'd probably prioritize Melee > New > Brawl DLC. Mewtwo and Ice Climbers are...too important to me.

How many memories do you think that replays, screenshots, and customization slots saves (8 per characteR) would take up? Just curious?

Would they applied the file saves memories to total memories?

I don't know, but that isn't something that would factor into the download size for the game since, typically, those kind of things take away space separately on an SD card or such. Shouldn't be too long before we find out since people are starting to drill into the game now:

After poking around with the ROM in order to get it to work (Yes, the ROM is in the wild now. Do not ask about that...) we've learned that the Sm4sh ROM requires at least 2GB of free space on the SD card in order to load properly.
There may be some weird technical details behind this logic, but it's possible that the black screen when this condition is not met is due to some sort of space check, and the failsafe involved crashes the system due to the fact it's being run from a Gateway.
That said, this suggests, in my opinion, that Nintendo would REALLY prefer if you had a lot of free space on your SD card for future updates towards the game. Most content/patches do not take large amounts of data, but adding in legitimate full content such as characters and stages are much more likely to fill that space.
This is one of those grains-of-salt pieces of info, but with Nintendo seemingly planning in advance to ensure you have ample space to dedicate to this game, I believe that add-on content is VERY likely.

Edit: If someone has more information on the SD card related message that appears when the game launches, that could also shed more light on this, and potentially invalidate a portion of my logic. A user on GBATemp says the message talked about trophies, though I am not sure what trophies would have to do with the SD card data to such a large extent.
(For further information about this SD card related 'crash', see my post in the comments. If the post isn't there, it's because the link was too piracy-driven to be useful as a news source.)

Definitely Melee.

What's ironic is that people who guessed Duck Hunt Dog probably could have never guessed his moveset. Even after the leak, a lot of people were dead wrong about how he would play. Most people imagined him pulling out the zapper or throwing ducks, not summoning 8 bit outlaws and dynamite.

Well after the leak I guessed he would involve other light gun games. :D So glad I was right...it works quite beautifully.

I'd miss Ice Climbers but I'd prefer the Brawl DLC. Lucas is a must, and Ivysaur/Squirtle would be fun in the Smash 4 engine and new Down+Bs.

Didn't one picture at least mention the plates? That could have been the only move that someone got remotely close. But yeah, the references to Wild Gunman and Hogan's Alley are just spot on and soooo good. Definitely not something anyone could have expected.

Just got back from a tourney held at my school. Apparently the largest in the area. A few big smashers are participating including Mew2King, D1 and PB&J.
The stream's at here http://www.twitch.tv/pastimelegends

i didn't participate though. I spent the most of the time playing smash 3DS playing all the new characters. M2K was actually playing some too with us between his matches. On the 3DS, he was losing to a kid at his first tournament
Some things I felt
Palutena's Up Smash is really powerful but her specials were pretty bad except against projectiles
Pac-Man is pretty decent with his side special being really nice
Bowser Jr. was okay.
Peach can spawn Bomb-ombs with Down B rarely. I like her side special not having start up any more and her new up air
I think I'll main Shulk with his long range and I was getting a hang of his Monado skills. His counter is really good.
Dedede was decent. A bit better than Brawl.
Greninja was pretty decent.
Megaman was kind of awkward without nonprojectile side attack except in the air. Otherwise pretty decent
Villager was pretty unique. Making a tree and using the axe is pretty effective
I feel Prism Tower, Arena Ferox, Unova Pokemon League and Find Mii could become counterpicks at least

Thank you. It was interesting to see their opinions. I guess it's wait and seeuntil someone cracked the data or Nintendo making the announcement.

oh yeah like Neorice's?

:p

lol yeah :p

Fox's custom specials are fairly similar to Wolf's. Gonna try to unlock the rest of them though, see if they become more or less Wolf like.

I was literally wondering about that. Looks like slightly clonish characters are being covered in customs.

I've read elsewhere that space is usually doubled for the sake of the the installer with digital, but some people already trying to work on cracking into the game are saying there is actual dead space which is typically reserved for extra content. Personally I think it's a mixture of both those things. There's definitely no way that the game is getting a whole gig of extra content. That's just not happening.

One theory someone posted that made sense is it might be a future update reserved for the New 3DS.

Ehhh... wolf wasn't even really slightly cloneish. He had about as much in common with Fox as Ike does with Marth. I think people saw his final smash and were too quick to throw the clone word around (ignoring Zelda and Shiek shared a FS)

I've only found one Mother 3 reference so far, the Porky statue trophy.

Other than that, no music, no other trophies, nothing so far. :(

EDIT: Corneria easter egg taunt still works with Fox/Falco if anyone was wondering (pressing down on D-Pad on one frame)

So, been playing the demo a bunch. Am I missing something or can you not see your score during matches? Is this true in the full game too?

I wish all 3rd party characters were mainstays...*salutes*

I think the 3 we have right now definitively, legitimately and absolutely deserves to be amongst Nintendo's Greatests (ft. Dark Pit) for future versions of Smash.

Who knows if Namco, Capcom and Sega will still want to be associated with Nintendo when the time comes, though.

Find mii won't since the ghost comes and wrecks things. Also it promotes camping with that giant hole in the middle :/

So I've been playing the demo quite a bit and I'm loving Villager. Everyone seems to be buffed (especially Pikachu, fuck this thing's speed), and Megaman is better than I expected, though he could maybe use a few more good KO moves. Villager is definitely the best of the bunch though. He's so much fun to play, and I can't wait to go against actual humans and see what kind of mind games I can play with the tree. Plus his recovery is insane and I pretty much always throw myself off the stage and harass my opponents recovering since I can easily get back on the stage from anywhere.

That being said, I don't think he's main material, mostly cause his forward and back airs don't agree with me. As a toon link main in brawl and project m I need those larger aerials more than I need the range Villager's provide.

Mechanics wise, the game feels substantially quicker than Brawl and the only problems I have are the blast zones and the new ledge mechanic, though I might get used to the latter. As for the 3DS itself, tilts are a bit harder to pull off than necessary, but other than that, everything is perfect.

Can't wait to try to the rest of the cast in a few weeks!

This is a rather fun post I saw on Reddit. If you could only choose 1 pack, which would it be?

Melee easily. Honestly I'd pay $60 for just Mewtwo and Ice Climbers, the game feels incomplete without them and I'd pretty much have my dream roster.

Has anyone figured out Falco? He seems terrible. Dair has like 15 frames of startup and endlag and has a tiny spike hitbox. Upsmash is pretty quick.

I'd like to talk Smash Basics for a bit with any players here.

  • Is L cancelling in? If not how fast do the jump recovery feel compared to Brawl?
  • Short hop into Fast Fall...this is basic freakin training wheels stuff here. Please tell me its not changed. There was a short rumor that fast fall would be eliminated from hops and would only work on jumps above a certain Y coordinate. Please tell me I can still short hop fast fall.
  • Shine to Shield...still there?
  • How does the DI feel? Stronger? Weaker?
  • Kill moves...sometimes a match goes on forever if you just dont have a lot of knockback options. How does the roster feel in terms of kill moves? Does it seem like anyone has a lot or too few?
  • Damage...is it working the same as before? How much damage are you generally seeing needed to knock folks off a stage? Are folks lasting at higher percentages than the last game or is it about the same? Is the DI (if changed) impacting this more or less than before?
  • I hear you can dash dance but its not like in the past. Could someone explain the difference and how it effects using dash dance?
  • Jump canceling out of the cooldown on a move...is it universal or only something certain folks can do on stuff? If only a few what are some that can do this?
  • How soon can you make an action after a throw? Being able to jump right into a followup is BIG and I'd like to know if all these odd speed buffs apply to a universal sort of "low cooldown" for throws. Can folks take immediate action off of throws or only some folks?
  • Air dodge...its looking better on stream. Could someone rundown how it feels in Smash 4 compared to say Brawl and Project M?
  • New Dodge roll seems fast...How is this affecting the footsies so far? Is it more in your face or just harder to catch folks? Is it encouraging a bigger throw game?
  • Shield canceling...can you do it? There was also a rumor you could shield while running. A breakdown of shield options and cancels (if any) is needed here.

  • No lag canceling. Most aerials have little endlag if any.
  • You can fast fall short hops.
  • I don't know what you mean, but shine is awful so it probably doesn't matter. Shine does like no knockback at all.
  • Dash dancing is identical to Brawl dash dance, it's just harder on circle pad.
  • No jump canceling that I know of.
  • You can combo out of some throws.
  • Air dodge is realy good. There's like no startup and you can do multiple airdodges before touching the ground. Makes comboing much harder. You can't airdodge out of hitstun like in Brawl.
  • Rolling is fast but I can still tech chase.
  • Shields come out quickly and you can shield out of a run.

Yeah, that's how it would work for digitals for some devices. I wonder how big the dead space that could be reserve for extra content. Yeah, I can't really see 1GB contents for Smash but it would be a huge surprise if it did happened.

That's a quite good theory about New 3DS.

I can't wait to see what people find in the ROM.

Only things I want to know are

1. Cut Characters (like those 7 characters in Brawl files)
2. Hidden Characters ( I highly doubt it but it's possible tho)
3. DLC slots (like people found 16 extra slots for MK8 courses)
4. Items/Stages Cut (Like Melee's FE stage that got cut at last minute)

Then I'm content with the informations. Hopefully people don't give away the games because I don't support piracy at all.
