What's the status on special matches (like metal, large, stamina, sudden death) anyway? I've browsed through these threads for a long time (lurker lol) but never saw an answer on that.

For anyone with the full roster, how would you describe each character's fighting style using the following types:

  • Rushdown: Fast attacks, close combat
  • Zoning: Projectile reliant, low defense/health
  • Grapplers: Slow, strong attacks
  • Speed: Quick, very mobile (Not sure this different enough from Rushdown in Smash)
  • Balanced: Mix of all types
  • Unique: Doesn't fit in the other categories

From my observation Captain Falco is a Rushdown, Samus uses zoning, Bowser a Grappler, Meta Knight speed, Mario balanced, and Olimar unique.

Zoning isn't just limited to frail projectile users.

Zoners are proficient at keeping a distance and pressuring on your opponent from afar. You can zone with long range normals, for instance.

Olimar is a textbook zoner. He creates a "wall" with his long ranged normals (aerials mostly) and keeps his opponent at bay. Olimar is a nightmare for characters that have trouble approaching because he doesn't have to commit to doing anything risky.

I don't think smash has any dedicated grapplers. Grapplers usually have abysmal movement options (at least in comparison to the rest of the cast), and their entire gameplan is predicated on their high damage command throws. I also don't think Speed is a fighting style, it's more of a sub-aspect of a particular style (Speedy zoners, speedy rushdown, etc)

???
how does THAT work

ErunnoRS on Reddit is saying this about it:

Guys, I have the japanese copy of the game right here and I am testing this.

Apparently this is a bug with the footstool ONLY on Robin (must test all characters to see), for some reason the footstool doesn't launch ZSS up in the air if it used on Robin close to the ground. I've tested with Sheik and ZSS is launched to the air.

I'd like to see a video of it being tested though.

Say, you think final smashes of certain characters got changed because the 3DS couldn't handle multiple characters on screen?

Question, if they ever would put a FF character in the game, wouldn't Terra be a good choice considering she was in the last mainline FF on a Nintendo console before it moved over to the Playstation. Think about it, she could be like Robin and the higher her percentage is, the longer her ultima sword attack should be. Also, final smash should be her esper form.
She'd be a good choice, although I fear Square would instead opt for somebody like Cloud Strife... or worse, Lightning (because she has to be in everything).

Eh, let's leave Final Fantasy out of this.
Nah

Speaking of which, going by the demo it seems unique cheering chants are gone too? They all sound the same and last about 3 seconds :c
I think the audience chants (I assume this is what you mean) are around and even change for alts. I guess the demo wanted to be small.

Maybe they just didn't have the final versions of the cheers finished by the time the demo needed to be finalized so they put in some placeholders. Were there cheers in the E3/Smashfest demo version? I don't think I remember hearing any.

Man, how cool would it be if Mega Man's cheer was just "Super fighting robot... Mega Maaaaaaaan!"

If they ever did, I think they'd go more toward either a FFIV character like Kain/Cecil (because the original game was on SNES and the recent godlike DS remake is still, afaik, only on that platform), but I think they'd gravitate more toward a general icon like "Black Mage" or "Warrior of Light" that could pull from an entire series of moveset. Or Moogle.

Thankfully, Lightning will have been dead for a while by the time the next Smash enters its planning phase. A FF rep would ideally represent more than one entry in the series - which is why something like a Chocobo, Moogle or Gilgamesh might be a decent option. Or they could do something with the concept of Warrior of Light that integrates the other FF1 job classes which are mainstays of the franchise.

Smash doesn't offer any voice language options, does it?

Street Fighter IV did that well, allowing you to select which voice track you wanted for each character.

I've never really cared about this until recently, because a lot of the English VAs (Fox, for certain) are kind of... off. And weird.

Would be a nice addition. :)

There was one in Melee, now you gotta switch your system language for the game to change.
