which is weird because only the most recent Culdcept game was published by Nintendo, so I didn't think it would appear in Smash Bros. I don't think they own the IP or anything...

It's a staple at this point. And it's so much fun as it turn the game into a traditional fighting game where there is no knockback and sending your opponents off-screen. You just focus on draining your opponent's HP. It's fun and a different take on Smash.

The goddamn mode is IN the game, but good ol' dev team didn't bother to include it or any other "special" rules in the game. Okay.
Yeah, it's a fun mode. I especially liked in Brawl, building a custom stage where people couldn't go flying, and adjusting the knock back and gravity then playing stamina mode. Brawl was so good about letting you combine custom match options.

Isn't there also music in the game that, for no reason, is not accessible on any stage? Seems like I heard that.

It's Smash Run music, if I heard correctly.

Apparently the boss themes don't play on FD normally, and there seem to be some Smash Run-exclusive songs.

Speaking of FD, the normal FD music is awful.

I dunno about going back to the GC controller after having a nice responsive shield shoulder button, guys. The resistance and distance you have to press L or R before it clicks has always bothered me since light shielding was removed, and the click itself doesn't feel as good. I might have to just force myself to get used to the Z button.

How is everyone holding their DS when playing? I've played the demo for probably bout 4-5 hours and i get pain in my left ring finger, maybe i'm just not holding it right?
The same as I hold the 3DS in any other game that uses the stick and buttons. Thumbs diagonally up on the stick and buttons, fingers on the back of the system, cradling bottom of the system in place with the middle segment of my pinkies.

If you want to see her trophy better
Thanks a lot!

Still hope for SS Impa! Impa hype.

Speaking of hype...

I'm not even hyped up for the game anymore lol. At this point, the flaws outweigh the good stuff.

NO D-pad comtrols.

NO more special rules.

The awful 3DS stage selection.

No Smash Run online.

I absolutely appreciate what Sakurai created and his efforts, but more and more it's becoming so obvious this version is as half-assed as it gets when it comes to "polish," they polished the weirdest things but forgot some crucial features.

It's obvious at this point they somewhat rushed this game and the Wii U version is REALLY where it is at.

Culdcept? Now there's a series I'm not familiar with.

It's a super fun game that I'd probably call a mix of Fortune Street and Magic the Gathering, but yeah outside of its super dedicated fanbase it's not very popular. It doesn't help that only the PS2 and 360 entries in the series have come overseas, while the rest, including the recent 3DS game published by Nintendo, remain in Japan. It's one of the very few Nintendo-published 3DS titles that hasn't been localized, which is a shame. It's a game I'd totally recommend to any Japanese 3DS owners, though.

This. It means nothing.

I've said it so many times now. I don't know where it started, but it needs to end. My guess is the younger crowd saw/heard "trophies dis-confirm characters" and thought we meant regular trophies. But we meant ASSIST TROPHIES. They are not the same thing.

I'm shocked. I'm familiar with the franchise but I'm surprised that it's in Smash.

You just said that more risks equals more fun, and yet in the paragraph above you said that bigger blast zones make Link's dash attack less risky.

The way I see it, having huge-ass blast zones limits variety. In Melee, there were basically four ways you could KO an opponent: killing them off the top, killing them off the side (either to the blast line or until they're too far away to recover; basically the same either way), meteor smashing them, or gimping/edge-guarding them, and there's a lot of strategy involved in deciding which option is the best at any time. In Smash 4, because of giant blast zones and OP recoveries, killing of the side is basically an non-existent option now until around 170%, and because of wacky ledge mechanics, on-stage edgeguarding doesn't really exist either. It's either kill off the top or go offstage. I can respect encouraging offstage play, but then you have to take into account the still OP recoveries and air dodges, and what you finally end up with is something really not very different from how Brawl. Or at least, so it would seem thus far.

Jeez, hyperbole much? I've seen kills on the streams at around 90-110%. Don't act like this game is brawl 2.0, if you've been watching you should know better.

The game is freaking out and people have unlocked everything. This dream of more characters is really silly to me, BS rumors and claims and everything.

Until there is actually conformation of DLC or something I've settled with the fact we know the full roster until Smash 5 on the Wii Z.

Honestly, I'm still going to hope that at least one AT character is made playable through DLC. It's an easier process than building fighters from the ground up, so I'd be surprised to see Sakurai and co. opt to only include non-AT character DLC.

I just want Dark Samus, OK? </3

Again, trophies don't rule out someone for DLC.

And yet she'll never be playable.......

That staff guy has SUCH an awesome design! I'll have to look into it.

I like the huge blast zones. It's not like they only favor the opponent. Everyone survives longer, which makes the matches more exciting.

D-pad controls are the worst! I don't blame him for cutting them on 3DS. Only reason they were an option on Wii U was because Wii remote was a control option, and pretty much had to be, since a lot of households only had wii remotes. When you plugged in GC controller or classic controller it FORCED you to use the stick. No one complains when a first person shooter doesn't allow you to use D-Pad - it's because it's not what the designer intended.

Special rules being absent is weird, but honestly, the only reason I ever played it was to unlock all characters as quickly as possible on my girlfriend's Wii that didn't have anyone unlocked. Never once played stamina mode/coin mode after that, so I can understand why they'd cut those, too. Not very popular, and probably not worth the dev time to include them. They can always be added later with a patch, if the demand is high enough, I guess.

Stage selection is also a matter of opinion, but I'm not disappointed in it, personally. Even the lack of new metroid/dk stages doesn't upsetme. I can understand how others would be disappointed, though.

Online smash run is definitely the biggest issue, though. I wish it were online, because right now i'm just playing by myself :/ It's solo 90% of the time anyway, so I can KINDA understand why, but yeah, it's a bit disappointing.

That said, I still think the Wii U version is the TRUE version, whereas smash 3DS is just a handheld spin-off. If you think of it as a spin-off, it's freaking FANTASTIC what they included. Content-wise, it's really on-par with melee. Tons of modes, features, challenges. For everything melee had that this doesn't have, it has something else instead.

I just really hope the 3DS version didn't cannibalize the Wii U version, and that the Wii U version feels like everything 3DS had (minus smash run/bomb) and more. We'll know soon, I suppose.

That is weird.

Speaking of weird, did anyone get a Rayman trophy, or is it Wii U only? Are there other off the wall inclusions like that?

My only complaint is that the game isn't out in NA yet.

November is so far away. :(

The demo has given me enough of a taste to be more optimistic than I was previously. Brawl really soured my hype for Smash 4, but the demo has alleviated some of my concerns, it's not perfect, but it's good enough that I'll enjoy it for the generation (instead of just not playing very much Smash, which happened after Brawl came out).

I agree with this. The Wii U version will be the definitive release. Especially in the competitive scene.

It was smart business to release the 3DS version, first.

Is there any confirmation that there will be DLC including characters or any form of DLC at all?

Rumors from IMO 99% reliable sources say 4 chars are gonna be DLC, Ridley, Mewtwo, Dixie and Chorus Kids.

It makes perfect sense when you look at the CSS as there are only 4 more slots available.

Can Team Four Star make Wii Z Abridged?

The following is a non-profit, fan-based parody. Wii, Wii U, and Wii Z are owned by Nintendo Co Ltd., Nintendo of Europe, Nintendo of America, and Akira Toriyama. Please support the official release.

I love when people describe games as gimmicky. Funniest thing.

From an bird eye view, it does look gimmicky. All you see is chaos, stages that move, items that kill people in one hit, and that stuff leaves an impression on you. If you're not willing to sit down and play the game on your own terms, tweaking the rules, finding good stages, etc, it just looks like gimmicky chaos.

That said, gimmicky chaos could be a plus for some people, especially ones who aren't good at fighting games and think it looks fun/approachable. It could potentially attract players.

I agree with this. The Wii U version will be the definitive release. Especially in the competitive scene.

I mean, we're all hoping. So far, focus has been on 3DS mainly, and the only thing we know that's different is that the Wii U has no smash run and has different stages. Oh, and challenges are harder. I think that's it. All special modes we know about are 3DS only, so far. We know absolutely nothing about Wii U's modes or features.

I am not seeing it.

If not for the new ledge mechanics I think the off stage game could be a lot more exciting with the improved recovery and bigger blastzones. But as it is, it just means it takes forever to KO without meteors or going off the top.
