Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor |OT| One Title to rule them all

They said they want players to experience it themselves so didn't say anything further. It's mostly Mordor I'd assume.

Right. That's fine by me though. I think 90% of the content in the game will be fresh to the vast majority of us. We've really only seen one story mission and gameplay from Dominate 5 Warchiefs nemesis mission (which is, granted, probably a pretty significant mission).

So there IS armour variety? I know they have said that you have your set weapons, but I was never sure about armour. That's cool.

What I think they meant was that the armor will change alá Batman. It'll show damage and wear and tear as well as alternate skins. I'm pretty sure they didn't mean it like there were more armor to be added or removed from Talion.

Okay. That kinda dampens the interest a little bit because I wanted to explore the LOTR universe in a vast open world. Sequel might do it for me. Anyways PC version is preordered. Hoping for a solid port.

It's not a port. They built the PC version from the ground up alongside the ps4/xb1 versions.

Don't knock it till you try it ;)

I knew you'd quote me on that but fact of the matter is that it doesn't interest me, if it did I would have tried it and told you how shitty it is lol. However, since you went to the far extreme to bring a truly terrible game instead of the ones I listed who were average to good maybe even great in some places, I'd recommend you last gen's Big Rigs that I tried out. Sonic'06.

In what area was that mission/gameplay? Sea of Nurn or Udun?

I ask because so far my interest in the game was very low because the location shown didnt look like Mordor to me.

It is the Sea of Nurn. Sea of Nurn is a place I believe they said hundreds of miles from the black gate and is a part of mordor where Sauron is gathering food and supplies for his army. It's also roughly 50 years before LotR so Mordor is going to look different in places as Sauron hadn't burnt the land down to the dirt yet.

There's three open world areas and within each area, they're broken up into smaller (big) maps. Each area of a region is large enough that they have fast travel to go from area to area if you want it. As far as we can tell, it goes progressively deeper into Mordor, likely towards Mount Doom.

So basically Kingdoms of Amalur?

What are you talking about, Dead rising 3 was incredible! Second best game I played all year!

Oh man, co-op was the shit especially with all the improvements they did to it like your progress saving in co-op so that you can skip and get where you are when you're playing SP, combinations on the fly from weapons to cars, better psycho boss battles and netcode being smooth as hell. Overall, It was amazing and I still pop it in from time to time, never fails to leave a smile on my face.

If anyone is playing it for the story though then they will be severely disappointed however DR was never about that, imo.

I dont understand this at all

why do people only buy games if scores are high/others enjoy it

Because a consensus of many people tends to correlate with the quality and likelihood that those who haven't played will enjoy it.

Yep same here, just great gameplay. Loved also the crafting system, so many weapons and special animations. Definitely a goto game just like just cause 2 :)!

~100 people cannot accurately represent the tastes of thousands or (potentially) millions of consumers. It just isn't happening.

Individually no. But the professional scores often line up with popularity of a game and with the opinions of those who discuss them online. GTA V isn't secretly bad, getting great reviews, and selling boatloads all out of fluke and randomness.

I'm expecting something around 8.0 or 8.5 in the metascore.

I really hope this doesn't turn into another Alien colonial marines fiasco.

How can you even think that could be a possibility? The only way that would even come close to happening is if five minutes into the game (which they've been showing off almost every week for the past two months) it changes into the actual Alien: Colonial Marines game and even then it would still be better than A:CM because at least you would get five minutes of a good game.

Wait, you think this will be higher?

With how little good taste they've shown in the HUD and coloring, I'm not so optimistic, and certainly not so unrealistic.

Seriously, do I really need animated stars over an enemy I've caused to flinch or be stunned? Get that off my HUD or let me shut it off. And I don't need enemy health bars and emblems all with different colors. Don't have green and white and orange and yellow and blue and red all in the HUD at once. All in color coded text. Don't use lit up faces as indicators of control. There's got to be easier ways than what looks like a hideous bloom effect. All totally opaque.

It's just missing the sophistication to be higher for me.

I really like the nemesis system, but I'm not buying this until I hear about what I can do with the ludicrous amount of text and colors in the HUD that are used so distractingly as if I'm not an adult who would prefer not to be told in an aesthetically displeasing manner about things I can see plainly.

EDIT: gahd damn I want to cry thinking about if The Last of Us had a HUD like this.

Aliens: Colonial Marines didn't even get a GAF OT.

blame space just made a thread asking if anyone was playing it and asking how much it sucked, and that became the OT.

Are you sophisticated enough to simply walk into Mordor?

So earlier people were talking about the map. This here is one of the three maps we're aware of. As you can see, it's broken down into smaller areas, roughly 8-10 areas in the map. Each smaller area has its own fast travel point due to the sheer size of the overall map. On the outskirts of each map are also cave systems that are also shrouded on the map. One interesting thing I've noticed is the Herbs, does anyone know what that's for? Is there some kind of potion crafting system they haven't talked about?

LMFAO!!! That's exactly how I looked when I read that response. He totally missed the point I was making. He must also think A:CM got a Metacritic score of 8.5 which is pretty fucking hilarious.

Uh, no I'm aware it's an infamous bomb critically and commercially. To the point of a lawsuit.

But I guess I misinterpreted your response as being to all of what you quoted, including thinking it would be both better than an 80-85 and ACM.

I gotta chill for a minute because these staring gifs are making me nervous.

EDIT: My HUD rant stands.

Herbs are collectibles and recover health too. No crafting.
