wonder if this fancy effect is still in the game.

I guess this came up when you want to choose a weapon manually instead of cycling through all of them ?

There is at least one new artist on the team as of July.

TLOU? Interesting...

Naughty Dog, From Software and now Square Enix.....that CV

Here is a podcast with her and, I think, her boyfriend who is also working in Japan at From Software. She talks a bit about her work but obviously she can't say anything too specific about FFXV. Still, interesting to hear their experience about Japanese development and its quirks and flaws regarding work efficiency, etc.

Also – but this is just me – I really hope this game will not feature any minimap/radar on the hud.

Yeah no...

A well designed mini-map is something that, imo, almost definitely bolsters exploration and makes the game more fun, especially the larger and less distinctive they areas look.

A mini-map has nothing to do with cheap easy convenience/dumbing down the experience or whatever. Its an important tool that helps you locate your objectives.

Its funny that you're ok with a full map though..It just means you'd rather repeatedly bring up the main menu and look at the full map, essentially fulfilling the minimap function ,but it only takes longer and is more cumbersome.

The counter-argument is valid though. For people who wants to immerse into the world, having to navigate your way around in the most candid way will help to create that sense of adventure.

For people who care less about immersion and more about speed run or efficiency, having a minimap up at all times would help to direct you to your next objective easier.

From 2013 footage, it seems like FFXV might lean towards the former, with a map that covers a portion of the screen pops up with a button press.

Yeah I really like this minimap design.

For those who don't want, I fully understand.

If it can be turned off (and it will be possible) then its good for everyone.

I am 99.9% sure that if the map in the game is still like that it will be something you can toggle on and off with the touch of a button. (Probably the touchpad on PS4)

Do we have any information on how or if items/armor/weapons/relics/etc. are implemented in the game? I don't fully understand this whole magic weapon switching mechanic, but it scares me into thinking equipment and equipment upgrades are going to be limited.

yup.Gonna be good!

Personally I like to toggle on and off depending on situation, eventhough I like minimaps in general.

For the demo they say that, in a dungeon, you can obtain more powerful weapons and items. So I would assume you can acquire and equip these things once you get them.

Going back to XII, if 'X" were pressed it would just bring the Active Dimension menu up (and the Square button did the same). XV's system probably replaces the function for X with optimally chained actions tailored for an Action RPG as it reads (except it is held and not pressed). The Square (or Circle, whichever vers. uses it) button could still serve its purpose in pausing the game into a menu similar to ADB however. It was probably a thought to themselves: no need for a second button to trigger the menu, much less for an action RPG. On top of that, it should be configurable through a menu in the first place.

We don't know about the Weapons, Equipment, and Magic customization system if that's what you mean). I'd be on the look out too if the weapon belt were removed for good - it looked convincing last year alone.

That's what I mean. Aside from a few bumps up and down here and there (like FF8 to FF9) it seems we have slowly been losing the old genre staple of going to a new location which sells new gear to upgrade your characters. Seeing the characters magically switching between whatever sort of weapon they like made me think we were not going to see any weapon purchases/upgrades.

I've really been missing the weapons, items, and relics from games like FF6, FF7, and FF9. FF6 was the pinnacle of that, in my opinion, when you had multiple party members who could use multiple types of weapons and magic and had to pick who in your party was going to use whatever new toy you found. Lately, it has become "sword guy," gun guy," punch girl," and you were stuck with that.

I would imagine square and circle are used for guarding and warping respectively. X being used for attacks.

What? Of course this will be in. Tabata and even Nomura years ago said that you can acquire more powerful weapons. We already know there's inns so why wouldn't there be shops? I guarantee you will be able to switch out gear. You even have to decide which weapons you can use in battle.

Maybe I don't understand, but are there actual equipment slots for each of these weapons that are phasing in and out of existence? Are we going to have new weapons and armor that change appearance? When you say that you "have to decide which weapons you can use in battle," what do you mean? From the demo, I see the only playable character switching between a bunch of different weapons at will.

I have watched the gameplay demos, but I don't recall much of what they said over the last decade or what of it is still in the game.

Wasn't that kinda known though already? This was just made official I assume.

If so the hype for XV is real.

We've only known about the demo inclusion from a couple weeks ago at TGS. No one had any idea a demo was even being made until TGS, if that's what you're asking.

So in the menu you set which weapons you can cycle through with Noctis. You can't just use every weapon you acquire as that would be highly ineffective since you can get more powerful swords, knives, lances, spears and great swords as you go through the game. I doubt changing equipment changes your appearance. Which I am more then fine with.

Kinda OT but how the hell is FF Type 0 HD so damn high up on amazons best sellers? It's number 5 right now.

XV demo voucher included.

This. Everyone wants a taste of that sweet FFXV action.

I personally don't think Type-0 itself would sell much on its own.

When I went to pre-order it the cashier didn't even recognize the damn thing!!

The game is getting totally cannibalized by FFXV demo, which is ok because I don't think it would sell much otherwise.

Subsequently the game will benefit from this eitherway.

I honestly believe this is why SE won't put it on Vita. They can't charge $60 on there and they can't let it piggyback off a demo.

Exactly. In doing it like this they can get more money and get more people to play Type-0 while subsequently also getting people to play FFXV. This will also have the added effect of getting the fanbase excited for it and to keep us busy for a while. By all accounts, it was a good move.

The distinction between an in-battle menu (ADB) and the Party/Status screen (standard menu) is what I'm focused on. Will it be a quick pause menu (former) or a full pause (latter) in order to do the following:

And you can call up the menu screen to give commands to everyone, swap out weapons, etc.

It'd be nice if it were similar to ADB where this command menu is in-battle. I'd hate to repeatedly pause and sift through several screens in the standard status menu before getting to the screen to issue other party members directives (of course, there could be a button bringing us straight to that screen but still). Using ADB's style to reduce the break in momentum or action from customization (as much as possible) doesn't sound too bad.

In XII, if Gambits weren't effective or meeting current battle standards, you could either shut them off or override the queue manually from the in-battle menu. It was an added shortcut with a functional touch for convenience.

Undoubtedly it was the smartest thing they could do for both games.

Fire up the XV development team, who have been working on the game for so long ,as well as giving Type-0 more exposure than it would have gotten any other way.

I think you're thinking about it a little too much. It'll be like KH were you set up party AI before any big fights. I never switched Gambits in the middle of a fight in XII. I would usually set the up before I got into any fight. Now setting up party AI will be closer to FFXII than KH, but I don't foresee a need to switch a party characters AI in the middle of a fight. That would totally kill any sense if tension in my opinion. With ARPG's you lay out a strategy before you fight and work within the confines of the strategy you set up before hand.

Yup. They finally seem to have gotten their marketing in order for FFXV and Type-0.

Edit: Eh...

What? Something I said?

Less then 12 hours to go until the stream.

So this site has a few new translations of the Famitsu interview.

– How are things since Yoshihisa Hashimoto, the person in charge of Luminous development, resigned?

Tabata: We are fine on that point. Luminous was being developed as an all-purpose engine, but currently, the Luminous development team has been integrated into the FFXV team, and it is progressing as a custom engine optimized for FFXV. Hashimoto accomplished his role for us in establishing the form of the general use Luminous engine. Thanks to Luminous being integrated, we are able to do things like convert high end 3D data for in game use and the challenge of presenting movies made in Visual Works so they move as is has become easier.

– I’m sure there will be a lot of feedback regarding the demo version once players try it, but will those opinions influence the final product?

Tabata: Yes, that’s one of the aims of releasing a demo version.

http://sqex.info/tgs-2014-famitsu-interviews-ffxv-director-hajime-tabata/

Seems FFXV is hogging the Luminous dev team, so obviously KH III's visual problems related to the engine don't seem to be a major priority at all.

And feedback from the XV demo could influence the final game. Strange because in another interview Tabata said that wasn't really the aim of the demo, it's just to show fans what the game will be like.

He did say that, but in that very same interview he also said "of course we plan to respond to the feedback we receive from those who play it to the best of our abilities."

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
Type 0 getting that Crackdown effect.

I can remember how Crackdown was sent out, most people just regarded as the game to get cause of the Halo 3 beta codes. But it was actually a pretty good game itself and is now apart of MS's big plans for the future..we'll see how Type 0 does

On the bright side if the game is an autoplay mess or if its far too limiting we might beg them to change that.

Stuff like character choice can still make it to the final game *fingers crossed*

Anybody going to be recording the stream to put it up? I'll try to stay up for it but I get off work at midnight, and can't forsee staying up until 6AM, although with my hype I just may.

Edit: Woot! I'm all grown up now! No more junior member!
