Sunset Overdrive Review Thread

Yea, I want to play CD, but I was actually thinking about buying D4 first and get to that. Only problem is I'm not sure if it's good without Kinect or not, since I believe that's what it was originally designed for.

I played all of D4 without touching Kinect. I alllmost switched to Kinect because one QTE sequence was extremely difficult to score 75% in and I needed it for the full 1000/1000 but I managed to pull it off (QTEs are supposed to be easier with Kinect from what I heard).

D4 is so worth it. It's like a telltale game on steroids. Like a mixture between Telltale Walking Dead, Twilight Zone, and Lost. It will probably be my game of the year, but so much software is coming out, and I haven't played Horizon 2 or Shadow of Mordor.

Worth noting D4 is like 8gb so its still going to take you a while. When I got my XB1 last year, knowing Forza was a 40gb download I installed Zoo Tycoon (3gb disc install).

Something about that big open world of stupid seems so much more appealing to me than serious open world games.

Guarantee you will find this a breath of fresh air then. Like I said earlier in the thread, while some may find the mission types repetitive, traversing the world, killing OD'd and collecting bits and pieces to make your amps is so fun. Was hoping to have the game finished before reviews dropped so I could properly assess whether I agreed with them but, they seem to generally hit a lot of the same opinions I have.

Really impressed with the scores, good job Insomniac. Thinking of picking it up now, would much rather put my money towards something as creative and fun as this with a great dev behind it (also dat GAF shoutout) as opposed to the next blockbuster-type game from Ubisoft...

Now whether or not to go digital or physical.

It's perfectly playable without Kinect. I think it loses a bit of its charm, though.

Awesome, I'll probably get that, and might as well try KI (though I'm not huge on fighters). I was sad to hear it had bombed, but I didn't have an X1 to support Sweary, now I can rectify that.

I know it's still off topic but I may as well ask, I'm confused as to how Killer Instinct works. I know there' s a free version of it, and I know that there's two seasons you can buy for 20 bucks each. So my question is, if you buy season 2, do you get everything from season 1, or do you have to buy separately? And also, season 2 is apparently 900p, was season 1 upgraded to 900p as well, or did that stick around at 720?

Will keep in mind, but I'll buy it for sure either way. Just gotta decide what DLs first, haha.

Well then with Kinect D4 must be one charming mofo. I never touched Kinect and I poured 15 hours into multiple playthroughs in this game and it charmed the pants off me.

After playing it with Kinect and then trying it with a controller I felt it lost something. The Kinect controls seem to add to the quirky factor.

Okay, just placed my pre-order on the MS web site. Hopefully it doesn't take long to ship. Normally I'd grab it at retail but I want the $15 in xbl credit.

Buy each season separately. Whole game is 900p, they updated the base game iirc

Think I'm going to get this digitally cause my store will not have it until Wednesday. Its gotten such good praise i think its something I will comeback to.

I really wish background music was available to use for this game... Would love to throw on some of my own music well traversing this city without taking up 1/4 of my screen

Everyone downloads the same game. The seasons only unlock the characters and there is a rotating free character. That means you can play online in 900p with everyone else for free but you're limited to whichever free character is available.

sony wanted to own the ip, microsoft didn't....that is why
Pretty much. It is why you will not see a Ratchet game outside of Sony devices.
Luckily this ended way better than the EA deal which gave us FUSE.

So the retail version is all characters unlocked no character switching?
Makes sense I guess.

Alright, I'll stop derailing the review thread now. Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it.

I had my doubts about this game but after seeing all the love SO is getting I think I'll just buy it...

I wonder if I'd be able to create characters that look like the GG's.

Best Bone/PS4-exclusive right here. Really loved the comment about the "alternate reality" where the Dreamcast was a succes, this would be the kind of game we would get.

That comment went right through my heart, but I'm still waiting a little longer to go for it. A little.

That's what I am going to be listening to when I play this game.

Irrational delivered with Bioshock Infinite, but that's a rare example of a developer delivering when it comes to single player content through a season pass.

Irrational didn't deliver SHIT. From March to July there was nothing other than an uninteresting horde mode. Burial At Sea ended up incredible but there was near zero value for season pass owners up until Nov xxth, 2013. What they did is create two fantastic story DLCs but they proved nothing regarding season pass value propositions.

Folks be going mad over at IGN lol.

Why? I know IGN YouTube comments are really simple minded troll console war comments is that why?

Regardless glad the game is decent. Considering how picky reviewers have gotten recently an 82 metacritic is damn good. Heck anything above a 70 nowadays is worth playing. Depending on the replayability I might keep my gamefly copy.

MS has been really killing it with quality exclusives this gen.

They have the highest rated AAA exclusives in their respective genres so far.

FPS: Titanfall
Open world action: sunset overdrive
Fighting: killer instinct
Driving: Forza Horizon 2

They've done a pretty good job. Can't wait for Sunset to unlock tonight!

Now all we need is the JRPG covered.
Lost Odyssey 2 please Spence.

Oh ok that makes sense. So you are saying PS4 owners have a chance at some point to play some SO sequel? :)

Maybe, maybe not. I would guess that MS has some kind of first refusal clause for a sequel. If the game doesn't sell well we might see a PC version of the first game. I'm not sure why anyone would fund a sequel in that case, though.

Does this unlock at midnight for East Coast if I preorder digitally? Still up in the air whether I want to do that or buy a physical copy..
