Splatoon singleplayer campaign announced

Could have been Mario

And no doubt it can be, if you're willing to buy the Amiibo.

Now that I think about it, Amiibos are a clever way to deal with that (hopefully) rare breed of Nintendo fan that won't buy anything unless it stars Mario or Link.

Yea, that's a great way of handling it.

Looks cool though

Please no. It would probably sell better with Mario, but it would be far less interesting.

Hell, a lot of the mechanics are pretty much built around them being squids.

If you are going to take the Amiibo route, it should be kept to single player or a skin that is only viewable by you and other people with it unlocked, and functions exactly the same as a regular ink gun.

I personally don't want to see his face when I'm playing it.

Buy the Mario amiibo to unlock FLUDD as a weapon in Splatoon, except he shoots ink instead of water now!

I really liked what I saw at E3 and now the game keeps delivering. It really looks fun and that the number 1 criteria in my eyes.

Only thing that annoys me is there is no supposedly local multiplayer.
I'd be ok if 2 players on the same Wii U can play online together though, like Mario Kart 8.

Maybe the game is too Gamepad-focused to do that, or Splatoon will be the first game to allow 2 Gamepads.
That would be a surprise for sure.

What? Has that been confirmed?

Don't see why we can't have both online and local multiplayer. And the 'story mode' needs a 2 player co-op feature.

How do you do it when viewing your progress and jumping to a teammate via the game pad is such an integral feature?

Doesn't screenwatching ruin the awesomeness of hiding in ink in plain sight?

You have a point there, although the person with the gamepad could essentially be the commander who decides troop placement.

Probably. Unless it's a co-op mode. 4 local players vs local bots or an online team would still be fun.

Stupid question because I haven't been following the game
yet.

I know that the multiplayer is F2P. Is that the case with the single-player campaign?

Edit: I'm dumb.

This is not a F2P game. Nintendo doesn't charge you for online stuff, this is still a game you have to buy though, at retail or online.

I know, but whenever I choose 720p 60fps, the video lags terribly, it must be my PC being so weak it can't support 60fps videos on YouTube, don't know.

You can download 60 fps videos from youtube using JDownloader 2 Beta.

It's not so much your PC being too weak to display 60 fps videos, as it is youtube being so horribly unoptimized that it requires a beefy PC to display something which should only require a paltry amount of processing power.

Welp, no idea where I got that idea from and I typically consider myself relatively "in the know" for things like this. Maybe it was all of the TF2 comparisons after E3, who knows.

Carry on, GAF.

Does the music for the trailer confirm that the woman who composed JSR who wanted to work on this game is working on it, or is that just my imagination? It sounds so JSR.

Hideki Naganuma is a guy, and no it doesn't confirm anything. I think it's reminiscent but not really his style anyway.

Shikamaru Ninja posted some credits fr the game a while a back, stating Minegishi's behind the music. This makes sense to me, as he's very into sound effects peppered throughout songs and somewhat elusive melodies.

Cool to know we'll have a Hero Suit for single-player/co-op.

I'd say so, they had a 'reveal' for her in the trailer.

Sweet!! I hope they reveal her name soon.

Inku Hatsune ;D

(yes, yes, I know it's just an inkling wearing the 'hero suit', but I couldn't resist :3 )

There was certainly a female composer or someone that worked on Jet Set, maybe it was Future but I remember she was saying on Twitter after the launch that she really wanted to work on Splatoon and the music reminded me of her stuff.

Nah, that's a dude, dude.

I think I've worked it out. I'm fairly certain it was one of the women in Cibo Matto who did work for Jet Set Radio Future that was speaking about Splatoon on Twitter during E3. Either way it doesn't matter, the music is awesome anyway.

Is it just me or does this game look difficult as hell ?

Looks par for the course when it comes to Nintendo games. They always start off easy and the difficulty ramps up something fierce most of the time. The only games where this might not happen are Kirby and Yoshi games but they're hard in different ways.

I really hope Nintendo goes all out with costumes and stuff. Crossovers and other promotional costumes and skins and weapons.
Its set itself up perfectly for it.

Single player/ story/ campaign mode has a lot of potential I think. After all the trailer only showed 1 min of single player mode. I can only imagine what else they will do with it. Very exciting indeed.

It seems like it follows Nintendo's way of doing multiplayer games. Easy to get into (the main objective of the game is to cover the most paint, not splatter other inklings), but more difficult to master.

The whole using the squid to maneuver around the environment is going to be insane.

This looks like the next AAA game from EAD following Mario Kart 8 (Captain Toad and NES Remix Pack don't quite cut it). If they can really flesh out that campaign mode, this game will be epic.

While we are at it, throw some more Amiibo mii suits into the multiplayer and we are gold.

Of course it could have been a Mario game. But then it would have been a different game. By not making it a Mario game, there is no constraints on what they can do with it. It's very odd to me that some people would want those limitations put on the game.

Amiibo could work very well like in MK8, with costumes for the Inklings. As they are already customizable, there is no need for Miis. Maybe an import/transform Mii into Inkling could work very well.

At E3, Reggie said the game would have local 2p mode(don't know if it's co-op or competitive), and a single player mode. We've seen the SP portion, so they'll probably reveal the rest closer to release.

Splatoon is gonna be so good. Nintendo please release Wii U's with matching colors for launch.

Why would you want it to be?

This game's originality is a huge part of the charm.

I think it looks like the best new Nintendo IP since Pikmin, and they've had some good ones over the past decade.

Maybe this would be broken but this image gave me the idea that the devs should consider giving players the option to ride the upstream of rocket launcher explosions if they are in squid form.

The only thing that bothers me about that idea is that with the way the game is designed it is a one trick gimmick. Every weapon one shots you so using this as a means of throwing off their aim to take advantage of them isn't really needed.

Riding the upstream would allow you to reach platforms you can't reach but the campaign is singleplayer.

This would be a great mechanic to work with if they had coop so this is something I would like them to consider for a sequel. AS for multiplayer if they changed the explosions so it lasts a second longer and allowed players to turn while still in the upstream it could open up tactical options that's worthwhile.
