I'm curious what game Bill Trinnen was referring to in his tweet about the next series of amiibos being tied to a new game. My guess might be a Nintendo Land sequel.

Id' like, but it will probably be Mario Party 10.
it is the next incoming game that present various Nintendo mascottes, even if "just" from the Mushroom Kingdom. It is already announced and will be the perfect "bridge" for the '15 Holiday game (that could be a Nintendo Land sequel, an Amiibo-focused game, Animal Crossing U, Pokken....)
Not mentioning the still-tobe-announced 3DS amiibo game.

I had not heard that, thank you for the info! That would be amazing. In the meantime I'll keep my hype lower and just assume he means a special line for Captain Toad, Kirby, Yoshi, MP10, Splatoon, or Mario Maker.

Kind of crazy the GAF hype over these... when skylanders and disney infinity barely registers on anyone's radar here.

i've given so much thought to rather I'm buying any or not... i've went back and forth. but ultimately I don't feel like the in-game usefulness of the figures is very strong.

I still might pick up some next week. But today: i'm staying in and playing Dragon Age, I guess. And waiting on my copy of Smash to arrive. :)

Mario Maker could have some really neat uses, like unlocking sprites and tilesets from the Amiibo's home franchise.

the ideas in my head about the potential of amiibos is blowing up

I keep visualizing them doing something like animal crossing/fantasy life with populated world filled with missing nintendo characters that each bring something special into the universe - like mushroom kingdom being attacked until you insert mario there who saves the place and gives you missions does his own activies when you log off

my mind man my mind

Hah, I'm the opposite. My Yoshi is going to be opened and sitting on my desk at work for fun and I won't even be getting Smash.

Skylanders are totally meh to me, don't know any of the figures. Disney Infinity is a little better, but I'm not that fan of Disney properties to buy them (only a small few piqued my interest, like Elsa and maybe Darth Vader/R2D2 in the future, if they ever release them). Amiibos, however, are made basically of IPs that I know and like (except when they make a Pikmin/Olimar amiibo, fuck them).

Also, can someone help me out?
I like the look of the amiibo and would be nice to get one to put on my desk or whatever, but what do people usually do with collectable figurines?

I mean, someone presented me with 2 FF7 figurines for a birthday once, and it was a really cool gift. I just don't know what the heck to do with them. They have been sat in their boxes on top of my cupboard for 2 years. I mean they don't even come with a base as to easily display them...

Walked out of GameStop with Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Ruby alone, sat in my car waiting for it to warm it up, looked at this thread, walked back into GameStop and walked back out with 4 Amiibo's...

I don't even know what happened.

Well for many I assume it is less to do with the game features and more that a Nintendo character they like is finally getting a figurine.

I am lucky to live in Austria. People here hate Nintendo and it's piss easy to get anything considered rare with ease ( just waltz into a media markt or saturn and they'll always have abundand stuff) This also is true for any special edition though, regardles of platform so...

I went to target and they just had an empty display of Amiibos. Asked the guy where they were and he kept looking behind like every Skylanders/Disney Infinity display saying they were supposed to be there. Despite the big fuckin AMIIBO display right next to him.

Said they had some in the back and he took like 15 minutes to check, and said he didn't find any. I was really just looking for the gamecube adapter but was curious what Amiibos they had and how they looked in person.

Will have to drop by Gamestop after work and hope they have adapters. From the images I think the Donkey Kong, Yoshi and Pikachu amiibos look pretty decent.

Do you have space in your house? If you do, glass boxes/displays, that's the only right answer. However, if you're afraid that people might judge you, then just put them inside your closet.

Well I bought 9. I don't think I'll buy any more unless they improve the quality/design.

Got them for 10 dollars each with the toys R us discount. Some will be gifts for my children, nieces, and nephews.

Or on a shelf, you know, a shelf where you put things

ZMart is selling these here in Chile, and according to their website, Marth is the first to reach "Critical Stock" status.

Will buy a couple of these after work when I go pick up my Smash Wii U copy. Definitely getting Mario, but who else? I'm torn on Link (because of several game compatibility), Kirby, Peach and Yoshi.
If your torn on Link you can wait on Toon Link instead. Its confirmed Link and Toon Link unlock the same spinner in HW so I'd assume its the same for any future game aswell as MK8.

I was gonna try and wait on a female Villager but it seems Villager is one of the first ones to go? WTH? AC is pretty popular, I know, lots of competition in first wave but I'd figured it would last awhile. Now I'm kinda worried there won't be a female Villager if the default one is going quick. :(

For some reason I thought these things weren't coming out until like 2015 or something. I've seen no hype anywhere outside of Nintendo threads here.

Nah, dust is a pain in the ass to clean after. I had my diecast car collection on a shelf, but eventually the process of cleaning them became a chore and too frequent, so I made a couple of glass displays.

I think the difference is that Disney Infinity isn´t all that great of a game (Donald Duck looks nice though) and Skylanders´ characterdesigns are pretty meh as well.

...in contrast to all those Nintendo characters/ IPs that all have at least one truly fantastic game behind them.

And I guess more people on GAF are Nintendo-fans than....Activision....or Disney Interactive fans.

Do you think the shortage of some Amiibos is done on purpose? If every one of them would be easily attainable is would be a little "boring" wouldn't it. The fact that some of them are rare makes the whole thing exciting and it makes people talk about them more, which is exactly what Nintendo wants.

Waiting at a TRU. They slow with pening... ooo here come the crates! My competition are here for Pokemon.

The 'rarest' ones (Marth, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer) are the worst in quality, in my opinion. Though, the Marth at my TRU had a pretty defined nose and mouth. I didn't get it because I'll never main with Marth.

Stores choose how much they order of each based on what they think they will sell. You don't want products on shelves for long. There's nothing artificial, nobody knows exactly how much to order because it's a new thing and Nintendo likely doesn't know how many it needs to produce either and may not have huge manufacture capability yet either. It will even out over time as there is more sales data.

Nope, not because they want to drive up hype but because there's a balance between judging the demand for the figures and not producing so many they can't sell them all and lose money on them. It's sensible business which has the handy side effect of making them seem more desirable if they're a hit.

How many do we think Nintendo are going to sell by the end of the calendar year? I have no clue what to expect... A million?

Miyamoto said that there´ll be an Amiibo for every Smash character, you´ll just have to be quick when NoA announces that they have 5 Ness Amiibos for the entire continent
as Nintendo World Store exclusive

I HATE YOU ALL :(

Just drown in the fact that there are no other games Ness will be used in. At least Shulk could be used in Xenoblade Chronicles X.

they will add a mod to the Earthbound VC release for Amiibo support! Arrrgh

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???

I'm personally expecting shipments of 2-3 million by year-end in NOA.

Edit: I also think Nintendo is going to have a press release underlining the success on the launches of Pokemon, amiibo, and Smash Bros on Monday

The Target closest to me had three of every character except Mario & Pikachu, which were apparently sold out? Almost bought Marth, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer... but put them back. Just not sold on the functionality yet.

I was one of those people who canceled all his pre-orders after the first images of production Amiibo were put online, but I eventually did end up pre-ordering them again. And I'm really glad I did! My Amiibo figures just got delivered, and they're smaller than I expected based on the photos I've seen online, but that makes them look more detailed than the photos led me to believe. If I get very close to them, I can still see the small inaccuracies, but at any normal viewing distance they look great.

I'm so torn on Link. He is easily my most wanted Amiibo, but that yellow pole!
I'm gonna look at him in store and make up my mind there. I'm coming home with Samus and either Link or DK.

I have a question/concern about the Amiibos. Let's say a year from now, Mario Party has Amiibo support. Would I have to buy a specific new mario party Amiibo for that game? Or will my smash bros mario Amiibo work?

Based on what we know, the current figures could unlock certain aspects, but full functionality similar to Smash Bros would involve a new figure.

Employee still looking for the ONE BOX with Villager in it. Honestly, I'm surprised that he's one of the rare ones.

Went with Mario and Link. Figured they'd be the most bang for my buck at the moment. Probably will pick up Samus, eventually, and maybe Luigi.
