One more concern. The original trilogy worked because for the most part it didn't feel like it was following franchise rules or had to showcase the cool stuff.

It was driven by good characters and a classic plot, already this trailer seems more focused on franchise tropes - lightsabres, x-wings, Millenium Falcon- than characters and plot.

I hope it's just because its a teaser and they want to placate those who look for those elements above the actual important stuff but I don't know, Outside of TV Abrahms has been shaky on character.

Anyway I'm not pumped not impressed so far but I'll let those who're over the moon space fighters are flying low over a lake enjoy the moment.

Good characters and plot in an Abrahms movie? I don't think I'll live to see it.

If only the Lighthänder (or Zweisaber) didn't have those cross beams, it would look so cool.

But I have a theory actually. Those aren't meant to be "blades", they are meant to be "exhausts" if you will. The saber has an incoherent flow, unlike the traditional ones which I assume is due to it being designed with a completely different mechanism and with more power. To keep it going, it needs to let some power out so it doesn't overload, hence the "exhausts".

yup, thats what i posted a few pages back

i'm sticking with this theory

I didn't know it was possible, but Abrams did it. He made a Lightsaber look lame.

Is it really a "true" light saber though? We have no context for the character or the weapon. It could have been something he pieced together quickly based on saber designs but still be quite different......

I liked it. Every scene was well shot. The Millennium Falcon scene made me a bit queasy; probably be even more crazy in theatres.

So, the Empire's still around? Makes sense. Just because you kill the Emperor, doesn't mean everything's just going to shut down.

Concerning the saber, what if it was actually built by some egotistical douchebag that thinks he's the shit (the sith?) and just added that for flair or to spook his enemies? There could be some context to it.

I've got a feeling it's not a lightsaber, but something very similar.

Lightsabers were considered an "elegant" weapon, and that thing looks distinctly unelegant. Whatever it is, it looks like it's fuelled by anger.

Why. He's a piece of shit director.

He's not a bad director, he's just not a good writer.

It doesn't help that most of the writers he's worked with in the past are also outright terrible.

Lawrence Kasdan co-wrote the screenplay for this, so there is hope.

Well now I feel like watching the original trilogy.

Is it possible to get the original non-special editions of those films yet?

So do we have any idea of the political structure in this film? Were those X-Wings part of the New Republic (or whatever they may call it)? Were those TIEs and stormies part of the Galactic Empire or Imperial Remnant, or...?
Actually, the Trade Federation took advantage of both sides in the rebellion having their numbers cut significantly down, and through creative financing took control. It's all going to be in the intro scroller.

This teaser really made me realize once again how horribly clean and CGish the prequel trilogy looked. Completely devoid of life.

But in all honesty: Badguy Sith lord talking while shit happens on screen, a guy whips his lightsaber. It seems similar to something Blur Studios would have done in CG as a teaser. So... I don't know what to call it, "fanboy-ish" "fan-servicy". Nothing that really shows an own handwriting.

Exactly what I thought. This looked much less artificial. Pretty good teaser. With Abrams at the helm FA has a chance to turn out decent, unlike the
6
prequels that came before it.

As it turns out, all it took to get people excited about Star Wars again was having a shot of the Millennium Falcon doing a loop-de-loop.

No female voice saying "Wake up" at the end.

Unless the other rumour was true, and there are actually two different teasers.

Any chance the narrator could be Max von Sydow? Not super familiar with the dude's voice but would seem less random than it being Cumberbatch since his casting is confirmed

Complaining that a Star Wars teaser showed off lightsabers, X-wings, etc.

The fuck

Who cares about the lightsaber which isn't a real thing. Swords come in all variations and whatever preferences the user has.

Cool teaser, bad guy in the forest was awesome, glad to see genuine locations that aren't over the top.

I can't think of a single, solid reason for that lightsaber design. It's unnecessary as a cross-guard. I'll just hope there's a good reason for it other than, "Let's show them a lightsaber they've never seen before!"
