Rockefellers. Skull and Bones. Microsoft. Al Qaeda. A Cabal of Bankers. The melting point of steel. What do these things have in common? Wake up sheeple, the landfill wasn't even REAL!
Major Nelson is pleased.

It was $450 in September. Just comparing bundles.

The GTA/TLOU bundle is probably a better comparison to make. Also, the Lego/LBP bundle.

It seems this survey is pretty limited as well based on the results from last year compared to their findings.

I wonder how big a financial hit MS took to create market share with these crazy bundles.

Great for consumers, but there is no way MS made any short term money on this.

Infoscout last Black Friday:

Methodology last Black Friday:

"Of over 102k shopping receipts tracked by InfoScout on Black Friday, slightly over 1,500 included purchases of a gaming console or console game. The data includes purchases at all major retailers carrying electronics including Walmart, Target, Best Buy, GameStop, RadioShack, and others. For more information related to our data and panel representation, visit our data page."

Even I am very skeptical of infoscout, but do we have another source for black friday 2013 sales? We know that November went to Sony, but how available was the system for black friday?

Sony sold every console it shipped last November, and it was extremely limited on Black Friday, correct?

If that phone app survey is to be believed, it would mean both the Xbox One and Xbox 360 doubled PS4 sales on Black Friday, the largest console moving day of the year. PS4 supply didn't get really bad until December.

I'd be interested in this also but Black Friday deals are still going on over the weekend at most places.

Of course they haven't. But getting stomped in the only viable market (The UK is another one; albeit a much less important one) will jeopardize the whole brand...

I think it mostly depended on where you lived? Couldn't find any PS4's in NYC for quite a while

Seems reliable.

The thing in question is not the sample size, people. The rough confidence interval implied by this sample size, assuming a US population of around 300 million, is not too big.

If this sample is representative, the sample size used still predicts a commanding dominance during Black Friday. There's no point in hammering on that part.

Better questions are:

- Is it true that out of 102k shoppers, we should only expect 1500, or somewhere around 1.5% to buy a gaming console or console game?

- How are the incentives for scanning the receipts structured?

- How were the people that use the app selected to do so?

These are not necessarily questions we can answer, but they are infinitely more valid than wondering about the sample size.

But is the sample representative? After all, it's comprised of whatever people who download the app for rewards want to show them.

Flawed system, but from what I'm personally have seen M.S. probably won November. At my local Target they were sold out of Xbox ones and still had a few PS4 left. I think M.S. will win November and December, but there sales will tank when the price goes back up in January.

Seems reliable.

To be fair, PS4 was pretty hard to find on Black Friday last year. I got one day 1 (preordered) but I remember a bunch of other people that didn't preorder thinking they were going to get one on release but nope. And most places (at least here NYC) had a waiting list to get a hold of one post release. I remember my local gamestop told me they had like a 4000 people in a waiting list.

It's really up to the messenger to decide whether or not a messenger is worth delivering in this case, don't you think?

within the context of this thread, maybe, but in general? No. Most messengers have no say in whether or not a message should be delivered. My mail lady does not screen my mail, as an example (even though I wish she would some times considering the amount of junk mail I get.)

I think it's pretty clear Microsoft won Black Friday and the month, but uh I am pretty skeptical about "InfoScout's" methods

$329 with free bundled games and a gift card?
If Microsoft can't win a month with the month long price drop, and huge BF offerings, then they're in huge trouble.

Uh... not really conclusive. Especially considering their track record for last year.

Do we know how many consoles were sold on Black Friday? November NPDs don't really mean anything because they are tracking the entire month.

That said, the sampling method is obviously less than ideal. It's interesting data, but shouldn't be used to draw any conclusions.

Do we have any other information for black friday 2013? We have the monthly results and Sony won that, but do we any sources for black friday?
