iOS Gaming Dec/Jan: GET

I picked up the Mickey Mouse port which is on sale for .99 right now. Really solid platformer, everyone should jump on this. I also picked up Reckless Racing 3. It's ok but it's very slidey. I'd prefer something that has this little relation to actual driving I have a little more abstract style maybe.

Vainglory is very impressive. Its as if Super Evil Megacorp did what Blizzard did for trading card games with Hearthstone. Boiled it down to the fun bits at least for me (super casual haven't played a moba since w3 mod). Hopefully they put out some tweak patches early next year to kick afks (which seems to be less of an issue as karma goes up).

In fact its got me mildly interested now in other mobas. I fired up Heroes of the Storm last night for the first time and had a decent time though we did get rolled and I kind of miss having the item shop. I just can't stop myself from going back and playing just one more match of Vainglory. They really nailed the controls on the iPad.

Are any of the other iPad moba's worth playing or should I just stick with Vainglory?

Fates Forever is pretty good. Bit deeper than Vainglory but I like Vainglory better.

Still worth checking out since it's also free.

A bit OT but I didn't realize appshopper was removed from the store. What's the best app to keep track of app prices now?

There's this now for Appshopper, functionality is basically the same as before. You don't need to use any of the social features.

Swing Tale: FDG is one of the best publishers around and they jnow their IAP well. Its a physics puzzler that is allright but what I like is the hints IAP: instead of ripping the player off like many other publishers or developers, they just ask 4€ for unlimited hints. A fair deal. Not endleslly buying tips like so many other games (disclaimer: never bought any on any game but I like the fairness presented here).
Swing Tale appears to be a Cut the Rope style game. What does it do that's unique?

I'm in the middle of a buying binge here. Thinking about bitting the bullet on Monster Hunter. But...
- Is the coop over the internet or just local ? I'm not clear on that one based on the app description.
- And if there is indeed coop over the internet, is there a solid community or not ?

Internet. Not sure about the community!

GTA: Chinatown Wars is now also Retina enabled, and universal!

Short reviews:

Checkpoint is a fun game. Mini Motor Racing 2 is disappointing. Jump Car is fun. :)
If you want a great pinball game, check out Crystal Caliburn 2.
Stradale by the X-Plane developer is a strange racing game, it's very crude and unpolished, but it's actually quite impressive and addicting in places.. strange vibes, check it out!

Any thoughts on Knock Knock?

Is it the same as the PC release?
It's a very strange game, but super unique and wonderful. I highly recommend it. Play it with headphones.

Oh wow, you lucky owner of Metal-compatible devices. Just check out how awesome this looks

Good news guys! Rex Rocket is likely releasing in January!
It's coming super soon! We were aiming for December but it's looking more like Jan for the Ios release.
A GOTY nominee in January? Pretty much. Rex Rocket is that good.

Madout was already released on iOS back in september and AFAIK the game was a mess. It was then taken down. It seems that the dev is trying to sell the game again under a different name. Let's hope he has patched things up.
It seems this version is an updated port of a PC version, which is currently on Steam Greenlight.

Got a really good puzzle game for you guys
The game actually released on PC and Android a few months ago, just released on IOS recently. It's essentially a programming-platformer, where you have to use And, Or, Not, etc. commands to tell robots when to jump or move left and right. The game build on that by introducing a lot of tricky new mechanics. For example, in the first few levels, you simply have to program step-by-step. Then you'll have levels with different color zones and need to program how the robot reacts to different colors

Pocket Robots Test Chamber
A game of logic circuits.
By using logic gates, create a logical circuit for the robot, such that he was able to pass the level.

It's about damn time Rex Rocket!

My GOTY list is a tough one. AFAIK it is this so far

Space Expedition
Out There
Sunburn

Hmm... There seems to be a theme there

Looks as if she/he was in the hospital again.

Sigh.

Bronxsta, thoughts on Knock Knock? I don't get it. It seems like it's trying to be better than it is
Didn't play that much, since I got Radiangames' Fluid and that's quite addicting, but Knock Knock is superb in how it crafts an unsettling and eerie atmosphere. Creeping dread rather than jump scares. Now as for the gameplay, I can't say much, but these two reviews of the PC version sold me on the game.

As for Fluid, might be my favorite Radiangames title after Inferno 2. I knew it was a speed runner/racer but I didn't know there were enemies as well. It's like a more focused challenging Fireball, as you weave through the growing horde to shave seconds off your time. It's a cool mix of racing and evasion, with super tight controls

I often play games in bed on my side whilst my GF sleeps.

Any recommendations of games to play without sound next to someone that’s sleeping?

Haha speaking from experience, any game where you can turn the brightness down real low otherwise she'll turn over and yell at you.

Get a pair of cheap bluetooth in-ear headphones (like these or these or something similar), they're inaudible at lower-mid levels for anyone else besides the listener. Just use one ear as the ear on the pillow won't be comfortable, but then you can enjoy anything with sound again (tv, movies, games, etc).

Same here.
I use EXACTELY those headphones and they work very well, or the Apple ones.
If volume isn't too loud, they are inaudible in the room.

Any good ebay-sellers selling these with free international delivery?
Can there be copy-cats of these on ebay?

amazon.co.uk doesn't have these and delivery to Sweden from amazon.com would be too expensive.

Edit: Took a chance and ordered one from China.
Thanks for the tip. Was looking for something to replace my MW600.

Its more like mixing Tentacles: Enter the Dolphin, Cut the Rope, Cover Orange and Biosis into one game. You will be creating and cutting rope to move, cutting wood to place it and help you out and doing a lot of physics puzzly things in order to clear the level. Bought it because of FDG (like to support them more than anything) but is not my kind of game so I didnt get much further than a dozen levels in but it seemed alright.

Currently 'playing' Seabeard. Let's say I must have self mutilation issues.
The big achievement of this thing is to have given me the desire to discover the real thing, Animal Crossing. Seabeard has a really charming atmosphere, but I'm afraid it's really all there is to it. Such a waste.

Just got the real 'good' ending in Out There, first time I did since the updates for some reason.

Freaking awesome game.
GOTY and one of the best scifi games I ever played since forever.

I'm so hyped about OMEGA it's ridiculous: ultra curious about the new ending too.

I bought Final Fantasy Dimensions on the SE sale and I'm pleasantly surprised. It feels like a cross of Final Fantasy V with Dragon Quest (the world and the vignette style stories really remind me of DQ).

It's no FFVI, but so far (less than 10 hours in) I would put it on par with V and better than I, II and III. This ain't no After Years.

Really? That's a damn shame. I had such high hopes for this, since the controls were just perfect for a mobile game.

The controls are great but what I wanted was a straight port.. The map is gone replaced with a new one that wants you to grind the same level over and over. And you can't get rid of the timers or the ads.

And yeah I loved the game on PC too so I'm quite disappointed.

Same, a straight port would have been fantastic. Sigh...the other games likes Dungeon Keeper that people complained about, that hadn't bothered me since I hadn't been interested in them. But One Finger Death Punch? Ugh...what a disappointment

It's still playable (heck, I just spent an hour playing it) but you still feel like it could have been so much more... And I could play that much because there's a launch event that adds 30 energy to the energy bar.
Otherwise I'd be a lot more limited.
