PlayStation Now Subscription Program: All The Details

Okay wow people are bitching about the price when it's basically Gamefly prices with zero waiting and 100+ games at your finger tips instead of one at a time. I'm convinced there is no reasonable price point Sony could possibly strike without massive whining.

This. The price seems really reasonable to me. Granted I think they need to greatly expand their available catalog because the current games just dont cut it in my opinion but the price is very competitive for other rental type services like gamefly.

Once they get PS1/PS2 games on that list, that price point will look more palatable. I can't see myself subscribing to this year-round but for a couple months when there are no new releases on the horizon? Sure.

Its a good price point for people who dont have a console at all .... Actually... If I was to go and rent a ps3 console plus games from my video store, I think I'd be paying nz $20 for maybe 3 days if not more....so from that POV....huge. Should kill off game rental brick and morter stores even more in that regard.

Ive only seen the highlight reel of samsungs ces keynote but PlayStation now was also mentioned there too....confirmed to Samsung TVs as well?

This could end up pretty huge for Sony...

Me, not too fussed, let me know when it includes ps4 titles ...

It is not rotating, but as of now it is a little bit different than what is currently available as rentals. Most overlap but some do not and there are also games that are only available through the sub and not rental. It will be added to moving forward.

EDIT:
here is the list:
http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-Now/PlayStation-Now-Title-List/td-p/44466574

should add the list to the OP.
Have they actually confirmed that it wont be rotating? It will only be added to, and nothing will ever be taken out?

I remember when PS Now was first announced and we all discussed this "Netflix of games" angle. It may not be the perfect catalogue, but they're getting there. I'll give them that.

Consider how this will be integrated into Smart TVs, media devices, phones etc. and Sony are potentially in for a hell of a spread of their content. If they can get PS Now to be as ubiquitous as Netflix...

Is there anything stopping them getting PS Now on PC's? We hear talk of phones, tablets and TV's all the time, but is it als possible that eventually any PC will have PS Now? Surely PC is the biggest market out there. Everyone has a PC.

I think it'll happen eventually. The client is probably basically a HTML5 streamer that could work in any browser.

I think they just are deliberately constraining client types during the beta to avoid a hosepipe of users while they increase capacity.

Most casual gamers on tablets and phones are content playing free games. Hell, some of them complain when a game is priced higher than $5. I don't see many spending $15 to $20 a month to rent some PS3 games.

I do. The free games are to PS Now, what Youtube videos are to Netflix. I believe PS Now will tap into that same part of the brain that gets people to subscribe to Netflix.

Because that costs money in R&D and manufacturing and obviously it isn't a big selling point, or the PS4 wouldn't be so successful.

Sorry, but R&D for a backward compatibility wouldn't pay itself in the long term? I mean, PS3 games would be sold to PS4 users, both digital and physical copies.
Even if they get the R&D back due to that, that leaves a huge chunk of manufacturing that they have to pay for up front to create a much more expensive PS4 variant (see how bad the PS3 has been at BOM reduction) which is thus less desirable.

Backwards compatibility across very different hardware architectures is not business savvy in the world we find ourselves in.

It is inevitable that some games will be removing, due the licence out of expired. I don't think Sony will do the rotating by their choice. If happens then likely 3rd party publisher's request.

It is pretty obviously that it is nothing to do BC, otherwise we won't have PSNow on non-PS4.

What I really want on these kind of services is pay as you go. Let me 25 hours of play to use whenever I want rather than paying per month.

Has there been any recent news about an European launch date for PlayStation now? I know there is that one timeline image that said Q 1 2015, but I don't think we heard anything after that.

I'm not seeing anything decent in that image showing off the game's available. Why doesn't the service have a cheaper introductory price considering people now will likely be paying the same price now for a worse library and overall service than those paying a year later?

They should have really focused on exclusives. I'm seeing nothing but multiplatform games.

After giving it much thought, its not good value and here's why.

Its really PS+ vs PS now. And PS+ with 6 games a month if you own all three consoles is much better value.

PS+ is $60 a year vs PS now at $180 a year. I lose a bit of choice, but there's more than enough to play on PS+ as a side subscription.

For those interested, the Theme is live if you want to enter for a chance to win. As per the rules, there are 100 winners.

However, those of you interested in buying the year's supply of Playstation Now and are wondering the price? Have no fear:

"7. PRIZE: Each qualified winner will receive one (1) twelve-month PlayStation® Now subscription for the PlayStation® entertainment system; average retail value is $19.99. Prize fulfillment based on availability."

Playstation Now 1 Year Subscription Confirmed for $19.99

Hey, rules are rules.

Hey, rules are rules.

I'm not sure that's right though, considering the 1 month option is priced at $19.99. I think it's just legal wording for the contest. I do hope they offer a yearly option. I would imagine it would be closer to $29.99, though.

This really doesn't seem too bad. I'll give it a try at least. My son just recently got pretty heavy into games, so I'm sure he'll love this.

At least it's not the "perfect price-point" of $60 a month like some people were thinking was awesomely reasonable.

I would actually like some clarification on this new subscription. I noticed that Mirror's Edge is in the Playstation Store under this Playstation Now service. I, however, noticed that the list online provided by Sony do not list it under the subscription plan.

I also noticed that some people stated that there are two list. One for rentals and then the subscription list. So am I correct in assuming that some of the games that are on the PS Now service are not part of the subscription and will cost extra (such as Mirror's Edge)?

Probably, kinda like Amazon Instant Video. Some stuff you can watch for free with your Prime subscription, and other stuff you gotta rent. It's up to the publisher to decide which side of that fence they want to be on. Just like not everyone wants their stuff on Prime, not everyone will want to be part of the Now subscription. You gotta complain to the content provider in question, because I'm reasonably sure Sony have already invited them to the party.

Hmm, I doubt that this will work. I guess it won't ever come to Sweden anyway but lets compare it to a certain movie streaming service where you pay $7.99/month for 8000+ titles, not the same thing I know but I just can't see 100 PS3 titles at $19.99/month on PSNow working, they need to have newly released games in that case, you can buy used games for this price.

well, Netflix HD is $12 and PSNow is $15... so quite close. Despite games being a lot more expensive to provide.

Do I need play station plus to use this service? I have no interest in renewing my sub at the moment. There's no games I wanna play online.

How much bandwidth would playing a typical PS3 game eat up, say Infamous?

I like the concept of this but I only have 95 gb a month and I already use Netflix a lot.

people were willing to shell out 15 bucks a month for a single mmo, now you get 100+ games without waiting for them to be downloaded. you press x and you are playing.

Bandwidth usage will be the same no matter what game you're playing. Should be roughly similar to what Netflix uses at the same resolution, or perhaps a bit more, depending on how much compression they're using compared to Netflix.

Oh, wait, is this 60 fps? If so, then bandwidth could be about double what Netflix is using, actually.

For sure, sounds like a good deal to me. I doubt I'll have a constant sub, but I'll use the service for a few months at a time when I want something in particular.
