I disagree with her completely.

Save the Iggy Banks threads for AFTER TOMORROW.

edit: damn just realized her name is Azealia and not Azalea. Whatever, her new name is Azalea Banks.

Honestly, I don't give a shit. I'm sure there are a good number of white people who won't use it maliciously, but is it really that hard for there to be one word you can't use? Is it really that big a deal?

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
Wow this woman is a damn mess.

Why did Broke With Expensive Taste have to turn out so good? I feel guilty just listening to it ;_;

For Iggy, just ignore her. She is an idiot who is trying to hard to fit in. I know suburban children who fit into our culture better than she does.

As for the word that I can't say on GAF but say WAY too much IRL, it's context. Depending how it is said and in the tone it's said, anyone can say it without offending us. Usually someone who has a "ghetto accent" is more likely to get away with it.

I'll admit that I will have my twitter open if Iggy wins a Grammy just to read her meltdown.

Not gonna lie, I'm pale as fuck and use "nigga" all the time IRL when appropriate. Mostly stuff like "shit nigga, what are you doing", or "this nigga". It's not used in racist context, so none of my friends mind or care, and that goes for all of us, not just me; even some of my friends who are black say it and don't mind me when I say it either because it is all about the context.

Personally, I think the tweet itself is dumb and racially insentive towards blacks and whites though. It almost makes it sound like she is saying that she is the end-all answer to how an entire group of people feel about the word and it also kinda downplays the importance of the context. George Carlin had a great sketch on the topic once, perhaps she should watch it before making claims like these. What is okay among the context of a social circle does not equate to an end-all with no context, specially with a term that can be seen as so close to another term.

I find it telling that of ALL the double standards a good many white people are upset about, the fact that they can't use "Nigga", a historical term which was used to demonize and dehumanize persons of color for decades if not centuries, is the one that sends them into a frenzy crying bitter tears.

This will vary between person to person. Most people will use it before they know the history behind it. Nigger and nigga are the same audibly and should be treated as such, but whatever. I don't think I have ever heard it IRL/offline outside of quotes and music though.

I do think that if someone wanted to be racist towards someone they wouldn't even have to use a slur to make it just as racist. This slur is offensive to a generation still very alive and there's no reason to "want" to say it though.

Are you saying that "nigga" and "n*gger" are the same thing? I don't know anyone IRL of any race, color, or ethnicity that thinks those two words are the same.

If I remember correctly, Gweneth Paltrow has permission. She's way whiter than me, so I'm good to go.

This post is funny to me, what separates the context between both words is one letter.

Since you use the word nigga contextually right from your perspective, why are you fearful of even talking about the word nigger? If you don't that type of anger and resentment towards black people, why not use the word in discussion.

I'm not trying to get a "gotcha!" moment on you either, just wondering.

Can't believe you thought this would be cute to post lmfao

Whether or not it is "okay" to use is entirely dependent on who you are saying it around. There are some people who are perfectly fine with their white friends saying "nigga". Others who are not. For this reason, if only out of respect, it's probably best to just try and not say it at all.

Please just stop. Your first post was embarrassing to read but this is just flat out wrong. I don't know anyone that doesn't find both words offensive.

When "rape culture" took a popular term from gamers, they should have said that they weren't saying rape, but raype. A word that has a "totally" different meaning. /s

Nigga and Nigger have the same meaning, that's actually the point. Otherwise you know, some rap songs should have both spellings in the same song some times.

I don't understand how anyone could think they are separate either.

It depends on who you ask. Some people view nigga and nigger as one in the same. Others think nigga is casual term for guy or person, and nigger is the word with negative racial connotation.

It's obviously a reclaimed word. But not so much that it always falls in that context of meaning "pal".

The odd thing about it is some white folk feel that being allowed to use it is a sign of equality, and being called racist for using it as "pal" is someone racist in itself. The truth of the matter is not everyone views it the same way so it can't be seen as something that get's a ubiquitous free pass.

Are you being dense? Nigga is a colloquial term used as either an expression of endearment or playful (sometimes) derision.

Ex 1.) "Ay, that's my nigga Marvin right there!"

Ex. 2) "Nigga, shut the fuck up. Blac Chyna's ass don't look natural."

Nigger is a completely different word.

Nigger is a completely different word.

So if a white boy goes into a room of friends and says, out loud "Hey Niggas" and they are like wtf, but he says, "no, without the R", it somehow becomes very different?

I understand how it is used, but vocally it is the same. The 'new' word is in fact derived to have the same meaning, which is exactly why it exists in the first place. So to the people who are offended, it is the same.

Or how many people would it take to change another racial slur to having a nice sweet meaning? For as long as large and vocal black community finds either spelling racist all the same, it becomes bigotry to use it and tell them to not be offended because the spelling is different.

I would imagine people who casually say "Nigga" also have no problem saying "Nigger", mostly because they wouldn't even be able to differentiate the two.

Just looked at the Wikipedia article on the term; opinions on the matter are even more varied than I originally thought. I wonder what the popular voice will think of the term in the far future; a lot can change over time. Hell, there's terms that are used by kids today which are totally offensive in their creation, never were turned ungrateful or had a positive variant made, and are now forgotten in origin and children use them.

One big one is getting "gypped"; can't stand that one, and I can't believe most of society thinks it is in any way okay.
