The Order 1886 | Impressions Thread of not shooting the messenger.

I think it's more like x console is doomed :p
"Sony is doomed"
"All Sony makes is cinematic games"
"The Playstation brand isn't about gaming anymore"
"Thank God for Nintendo"
"I hope this game fails"

Etc etc etc.
Not to mention many on here still consider an 80 a flop for an AAA exclusive.

Smh
Ughhhhh. That's not a critical flop, and even if it was, what kind of matters at the end of the day is if it's a commercial flop/success.

Is there anything akin to unlockable abilities/gadgetry?

Or does that sort of progression boil down to, "here, have a new weapon for this mission", more or less?

It getting an 80 won't help with that. We'll get all kinds of concerning over "the future of the industry" and "gaming being doomed" etc etc.

It just... will never end will it? You know I have the minority opinion of believing that despite shit that happened last year, gaming (not the community) is getting better. A lot of my favorite games have come out just in these past few years. But... It's just tiring- so see so much hatred being spewed... I want to get into the game industry, I'm working on a game, sure it's RPG Maker, but i'm putting every ounce into making it the god damn best it can be. And sure It's never going to be the publicity of some big titles... It's just the gaming community, I really- REALLY fear the day I have to let it out to the public and stuff like the Order threads really making that fear worse.

So pumped for this!

It shipped from Amazon Canada yesterday and will arrive tomorrow! One day early!

Last time I got a game before release was Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil (expansion).

I got the Collectors Edition for $55 during E3 sales so I can't complain about the price

Just finished chapter 5. Visually stunning! HNNNG!

But yeah, the game is super linear. Like, most of the collectibles are right in front of your eyes. You don't even have to look left or right. There are a few that are off the beaten path, but I feel those paths are made just for the collectibles, and not the other way around, which is definitely not a good thing.

But again, holy shit at the visuals in chapter 5.

Do the collectibles add anything? Like story, lore, etc. or are they just shiny things on the floor.

We seem to be stuck in a negative rut right now. It's really pretty painful. All people could say last year was how it was the worst year ever. And I was sitting on my PS4 and PC having the time of my life.

Hopefully people begin to look at the industry more positively soon. There's a lot of good happening for sure. I've said before that I actually had to stop listening to some podcasts because they felt like negative zones. I want to hear some genuine positively and excitement for the industry. I miss the bright and happy 1UP days.

This is the worst. It's soley the reason why we can't have nice things. People wanting things to fail just because they don't like it.

Not to bring this up in here, but not once have I ever said, through the whole Ryse conflict, the Xbox unveil, Sony hacking, not even with my disdain for Apple, have I once said they deserve to fail. The only thing that deserve to fail are things that directly affect people life. Like when Comcast screws people over, banks stealing from the people etc etc. Stuff like that.

But back on topic...

So far it seems good. I'm not buying it day one, but I'm very hyped to eventually play it. I'm not super critical on games so I don't think I will have a problem with it for most of the part. How are the guns however? I love how strong they look in the videos. Are they powerful? Do you feel the strength in them?

Some of them do, some of the things you can interact with like newspapers flesh out the back story more. Some are purely for world building, and some have tidbits for characterization.

Agreed completely. I want people in this industry to succeed with their vision, regardless of how I personally am attracted to that vision. I don't want them to actually fail.

Yep. I want all games to be good for the people looking forward to them and the people who make them.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
Really, these threads are just showing how starved we are for games, any games, at this point.

I'm down for a good story driven cover shooter.. but the lack of replay and length.. with no MP does make me pause on getting it full price. Yeah, I hate that I'm that guy now.. but the MP in UC helped make that Week 1 purchase a lot easier as I got a few more weeks or months out of the game overall.

..and then there are others that just find pleasure in witnessing other peoples disappointment. That much is clear after seeing the shitposts on Twitter, Reddit etc over the past few days.

Sometimes its best if you are hyped for a particular game to just avoid the internet altogether

Right. Like AC:Unity, as bad as that was and as pissed as I was about everything (from the reveal of them not considering a female lead, to her being to hard to code, the whole racial thing etc) I never said Ubisoft should fail. I was mad, but ultimately I didn't buy the game. I spoke with my wallet and kept it moving. I don't have time to carry on with every complaint. It's tiring and I feel like no one really cares what I think.

And the last thing I'm going to do is rain on someone else parade because they find the game to be fun and is interested in that game.

There are a lot of insecure gamers out there that think game development is a zero sum game where popularity for one type of game means resources taken away from development of game types they like. The industry has proven year after year that the situation is precisely the opposite. Whatever gamers are interested in, somebody steps up to make it. Yet this nonsense continues.

I have no doubt most people want this game to do good. Not only does it mean a sequel is guaranteed, Sony will have another flagship developer and more PlayStations will be sold.

However! That does not mean we should be more forgiving. This might be a new IP, but it will get the same treatment from critics as any other game. Of that I am sure.

I really hope it gets above 80. I just want to be able to discuss the game without people worrying and concerning and shitposting.

We'll discuss bro. Come rain or shine, we'll discuss. *hug*

They did consider a female lead at some pint during development, no one ever starts a story without considering who the protagonist should be. They just didn't make a female skin for the hundreds of thousands of combinations of armor since players would never see them. That would be hard to pull off convincingly. What racial thing btw?

With the internet so big as it is- and for people to get what they're saying out to as many people as possible. I feel like it's no longer enough to dislike a game, but now people take joy in explaining it to as many people why they dislike it (though this typically turns into just saying it's a bad game in general), and how it's bad that others like it.

Of course. The whole "not wanting people to fail" feeds into this. From what I've read through the various impressions here, I don't want RaD to fail because they (possibly) put out a middling or mediocre game. I want them to learn from this and come back and do something even better. Just because we wish them well doesn't mean we can't critique or analyze what they do.

Fuck that noise.

I want this game to succeed because ONE original try does not represent the talent of RAD in its full potential.

You guys remember all the hoopla surrounding Gerrilla Games and Sony's decision to back them for Killzone 2?

"But Killzone 1 SUCKED LOL. Why would they try and make another one?"

Sane thing applies here, and its up to critics to provide constructive criticism and not simply put the game on blast.

You are right. We live in a difficult industry though. If your game is flawed, it won't be easy to make a sequel. That said, in my opinion RAD is in a good position. Many PS4 gamers are craving a new exclusive, there is not much else to play and it's a genre almost everyone plays. And most PS4 games sell really well. They should certainly be able to make profit.

I think reviews have to be REALLY bad to ruin this.

Well, plus we know their output has already resulted in some excellent games under the God of War banner. I honestly think Ghost of Sparta is a better game than God of War III.

To the people who've played it,what exactly is the best thing about this game besides the graphics?

Direction, art and acting are really outstanding. Like a good movie. So far I'm starting the chapter 8 and I have played 5 hours or so. So far for me is a solid 8/10.

The quality of the graphics is the best one I have seen in a game. Looks like you are playing in a CGI, and the people saying that when you have to take control of the character and you stay waiting because you think that the scene is still going is quite true.

Some scenes look so good that is kind of creepy. The model of the Indian woman looks freaking real... And the attention to the detail is also great in all the textures of the sceneries too.

Oh God. They come out right before my exam tomorrow. Glad I'll miss the initial bloodbath I guess.
This at 8, NISA at 9, class at 9:30. OK then.
I'll be knee deep in Zbrush but I'll definitely pay attention.
Also, if anyone wants to add create gifs with humorous, here's a scene from the order that I've used to create some gifs.

Now that I think about it, it seems a lot of Sony games change a lot between the first and second iteration.

Sly-> Sly 2
Jak -> Jak 2
Killzone -> Killzone 2
Uncharted -> Uncharted 2
Resistance -> Resistance 2
Warhawk -> Starhawk

Is it just me, or is there actually a trend. :/

And I haven't played that one. For fucking shame.

I just want them to go on vacations, come back to some solid sales, and get to work on their next project as the discussion shifts to shitting on another dev.
