I'm only a few hours into Arkham Asylum but now I don't know if I should continue, now that I know that the Joker
is apparently dead

Not saying whether there was or not, but reportedly the game was a mess technically last E3, major framerate issues. If they were having trouble on their PC demo units there, it may have been necessary to dial back in a couple of areas.
Shame. Well I hope they won't have to make drastic changes.

Last E3 to June 2015 leaves them a whole year to iron out technical issues.

Looks good to me. I do wish the game was running on UE4, though. Also not a fan of Poison Ivy's face. Harley Quinn's face looks much better than the first shots of her. I wonder if those saying it looks downgraded is because this is actually PS4 footage.

It's the reason behind the delay in the first place actually, it was slated for October 2014 if you remember. Same day as Shadow of Mordor!

Yeh the faces are pretty incredible, are there any other high budget games which have used nvidia faceworks before?

People saying Poison Ivy is ugly are one of the main reasons women are oversexualized in videogames and we can't have distinct interesting and realistic female characters as a standard. They're probably also the ones that complain the most about that very issue. It is quite fucking sad that everytime a female character doesn't fit the supermodel perfect face standards it gets complains for being "ugly". Like... jesus christ how sad can you be. Worst part is she still has an exaggeratedly idealized look.

Anyways these new models look incredible, they finally managed to get rid of the horrid unreal's signature of overly ripped and oversized bodies and it's very noticeable, especially in Gordon. The faces look fantastic too, The Riddler looks like a terribly frightening psychpath.

Shame the writing seems to still be average-bad. I mean "we were planning to take you out..." - "over my dead body" Haha what?

The demonstrations of the game running on PC last year had me worried as the frame-rate was EXTREMELY poor despite running on a very powerful machine. Of course, it was still a year away and things would improve, but if they were having that much trouble on the PC at that point imagine how things were on the console side. I would not be surprised to see changes.
 
This is my most looked-forward-to game this year, and I only own an Xbox One and a PC with a GTX760 card. So I'm hoping the Xbox One version is running at a steady clip with some nice visuals - it'd be a crying shame if this was a technical letdown.

The "rain effects" were apparently amazing, the rain flows differently depending on the physical properties of the surface. I guess that's what Nvidia's "rain effects" allude to.
They mentioned it as being PC exclusive.

The difference in those gifs seems massive. How many other games this gen have differences THAT large between PC/consoles? Unity isn't even that different. If there really is some funny business going on I feel like it's across all platforms.

I wonder how developers feel when they realize during development that these.....next gen consoles can't do their vision properly. Curious how the XB1 version is going to compare to PS4.

I liked the way AC looked on PS3. Mostly because of the art design. AK is obviously going to look better but that's a significant difference from earlier trailers.

WTF happened?

Yet another dev was overly optimistic about their own capabilities and the capabilities of the target hardware.

I completely understand that it's good to set lofty goals and then fall short, rather than underachieve, and of course game development is extremely difficult and unpredictable, but it really bums me out that we keep seeing glimpses of amazing looking games that are then downgraded by launch. And it's not that they end up looking "bad," it's just that the devs themselves have provided us with an idealized point of comparison.

I'm not sure how this could be avoided given current PR cycle norms, but maybe someone should be thinking about this. Or maybe it really doesn't matter in the end (as far as sales go) and it's only a few malcontents on forums who really get up in arms about it.

edit: even if that is PC footage vs. PS4, I'll still be surprised if the PC version hasn't undergone some downgrades as well. The gulf in rendering quality between PC and console isn't usually of that magnitude, aside from AA and resolution.

Arkham Origins was an awesome showcase for some Nvidia gameworks effects (snow), I really hope they go all the way in this one as well.

Usually not, but the Arkham games always had features on board not even present in the console version. Not sure if this will be the case here too but it wouldn't surprise me.

I think maby it's downgraded for everything. PC version will be better than consoles but there shouldn't be that big of a difference. It looks like two completely different engines.

The thing is there's no reason to believe it was actually downgraded, more like the shocking news that the console versions won't look as good.
 
I wouldn't expect the game to look as good as the reveal trailer on PC. How many times has the PC version of a game (that was not made by Crytek) looked miles ahead of the console version? They probably made those assets and then realized they couldn't keep up that level of detail for the rest of the game and so downgraded them. Or they realized it couldn't look that good on PS4 (the platform where it will sell the most) so they didn't give a damn about making it nice on PC (most multi-plat devs dgad). Otherwise, why market the game using the PC version and then show the worse looking-console version in trailers?

or not a lot of people have a good pc to run this game the way it was.

That's an optimistic way of looking at things I guess. PC versions of games get downgrades along with the console versions all the time. I can't think of too many games this gen where the side by side comparison between PC and PS4 where very large outside of image quality. Especially with regard to polygons\geometry, shaders, etc. They'll probably have a video out at some point going over all the exclusive nvidia technology, and I'm sure there will be a little tessellation here and there, but nothing as big as the difference you see in that GIF.

I guess we'll find out when the game is released.
