Kojima will no longer be a Konami executive from April 1st + KojiPro is no more?

The big question is what is happening with Kojima Productions though. I think all the other stuff is less important. If Kojima Productions in Tokyo is being disbanded, what happens to the staff? Were there layoffs? What's the future development outlook within Konami? What will happen to games which Kojima Productions were developing in pre-production? What will Konami LA Studio work on now? These are the important questions.
Konami HQ can get fucked if they relocated and hired a tonne of people for LA and then shutter it, post-launch. It would also destroy the future (patches, updates, additional content) of MGS5 Online if duties aren't passed to another studio.

I think the worst part of a possible Kojima Productions shutting down is what happens with Fox Engine after having spent so long developing it and how useful it would be for future projects. It just stays at Konami? Er..........

It'll probably have a bright future as the engine for the PES games and nothing else.

Why not Nintendo or *gasp* Microsoft? Microsoft can offer the money and most importantly the freedom to create what he wants when he wants. It's just majority of GAF and the Internet does not want a kojima game on a Microsoft consoles. And the same goes for Nintendo

Kojima is one of the few big names of the Japanese industry that has little affiliation with Nintendo. Other producing the (amazing and oft disregarded) Boktai series, the two simply don't have much shared history. Microsoft could be a decent fit if they want to expand operations in Japan, but are you really curious why people would rather see one of Japan's most legendary directors stay with a company that has a tradition in the Japanese school of design and market rather than not?

Notice that I'm not saying that he wouldn't do a great job in Nintendo or Microsoft, but it's beyond me how anyone could question Sony's being the best choice out of the three.

Keighley should get him on his next podcast for an hour.

I can't believe this is happening :(

I'd be totally down for a Keighley podcast/interview but at the end of the day a simple explanation would be worth its weight in gold right now. I can understand a studio being renamed or Kojima stepping down from Executive level but removing all traces of him from MGSV and previous titles makes zero sense.

Until we get an explanation..

STANDING...

That's only if Konami give a shit.

Maybe they'll sell MGSV wholesale to another publisher.

This is my biggest fear, too. I've been waiting for the new MGO for around three years now... would hate for the post-launch support to get fucked because of something like this.

KojiPro is just a floor in the main Konami building.

Koji pro LA became konami LA.

It just sounds like Kojima himself pulled off a stunt that Konami didn't like.

Rode the rocket toward greener pastures ?

Whatever it is it's central to Kojima and it ain't retiring

We should all add a 'A Game by Hideo Kojima' text on top of our avatars and see if Konami will erase us from existence

Pretty saddening tbh. Kojima/Konami have always been pretty synonymous with one another but sometimes you just gotta shake things up a bit. Hope there isn't any bad blood and it's all just some legal req.

He's more of a cultural fit with Sony anyway. I don't really see Nintendo accepting pitches along the lines of Metal Gear Solid or PT. But yeah, I'm sure he could do amazing shit with VR.

I'm sure he'll get work if he wants it, at pretty much anywhere he wants to. I just want to know what's up with his credits and Silent Hills.

Sony would be fucking stupid not to chase him down. His games are consistently some of their best system selling exclusives.

Is this real? So no Silent Hills anymore I guess. What's even the point of bothering with MGS5 anymore if the team is being dissolved 6 months before release? surely it's gonna be botched?

Oh, Konami will definitely try to keep MGS going, whether Kojima is there or not.

Yeah but without Kojima the IP just won't have gather the same interest as before, it'll be seen as the crappy Direct to DVD spinoffs

I don't think it ever was being directed by him. He wasn't even listed in the credits for P.T. It was made by other KojiPro staff.

It's the same thing with every KojiPro game. "Please direct ZOE3, Kojima!" Never mind that it was Murata's series, not Kojima's.

Anyway, I wasn't going to jump to conclusions based on the original OP but wow at the updates. Sure looks like he's gone, hopefully to found a new studio that won't have all the Konami baggage. Took longer than I expected to be honest, he was the only credible part of the old Konami left.

I really don't think it would happen. Unless there's a radical shift within Konami, like cutting console altogether (won't happen), they won't shutter LA.

You don't open a studio unless you have at least a 5 year plan including growth and plans for multiple projects.

I'm more worried for everyone's jobs, but I think they should be safe.

I'm sure they will, but the franchise as we know it is effectively dead without Kojima.

I'd actually be more excited for someone else to take the reigns and show their vision. But, then again, I'm very much "over" Kojima.

This is all just a cunning plan to advertise his Snatcher VR sequel on kickstarter. ;)
For the record, the relevant part of the tweet is:
"This month Konami will go through a big restructuring, and it looks like September's MGS5 might be KojiPro's last work (team dissolved!?)"
The plot thickens. If that twitter account is reliable, that is.
