I met Hideo Kojima back in an industry event in Koln in the autumn of 2006, where he was signing autographs for fans.

The queue was abating towards the end of the night and Kojima was talking in Japanese to a management type, so I walked up. I shook him by the hand and said I just wanted to quickly thank him for his games, and he smiled and nodded and said something quietly about me being too kind. The manager turned away to look down the hall, and Kojima suddenly gripped my hand tighter than I ever though possible, so much so that I let out a tiny yelp, and pulled me right next to his face to whisper 'Everything I do is pain'. All the love had gone from his eyes. The manager turned around, but by that time Kojima has let go of me and was smiling and nodding and mumbling something in broken English; 'so kind, th-thank you', etc.

I watched him from afar, other fans occasionally coming to greet him. My hand was still red the next day.

Too bad you didn't peek under the table. You would've seen his legs shackled.

If Kojima and his team leaves Konami, the future Metal Gear made by Konami are still canon or no?

It's fiction, canon can be crafted to fit personal tastes. Just because it's an official MGS game, doesn't mean you have to give a shit about it if it doesn't have Kojima

So what happens with Silent Hills?

Hopefully Kojima can take his team with him and do something great. Fuck Konami.

Damn, -0.63%. Huge drop for sure. Konami will sure feel sorry when their Five Nights at Freddy's style Silent Hill mobile game recycled out of old abandoned Silent Hills assets makes that back in the first 20 minutes.

I actually don't think Konami is that smart.

Well does this mean Kojima will do a Mega 64 video ala Sakaguchi now?

Overall, this news id disheartening, but I'll only be sad if Kojima leaves the game industry because of this. If goes and makes games somewhere else then that's fine. Hey may not be able to make ZoE3, but he can make a spiritual successor with a different name.

I'm not very sure either way why companies got so invested in mobile gaming as they do. It's definitely a lucrative market, but it's a market that garners little to no brand loyalty, which is horrible in the long run.

Well, I guess Kojima is free to do whatever now, it's Konami's loss.
I mean in reality that entire company's value is about the equivalent of Kojima's glasses, we all know and love those glasses when worn by Kojima, but without him it's like "Who? I guess they're kind of familiar... but I don't know, they're glasses."

IGA is gone
Akari Uchida is gone
Mino Taro is gone
And now Kojima...

Who's left? Team Silent?

Honestly can't name one person in Konami game division at this point. Literally, I can't give you ONE name other than Kojima. Just goes to show how many talents have left them.

Okay, here is the 3Q FY 2015 statement from Konami.

There are explanations of these numbers below this in the PDF, but I'll summarize them real quick.

Basically, mobile games are making up the vast majority of Digital Entertainment sales. PES and Ground Zeroes are mentioned as "Hey, these are also doing well."

Konami isn't dying, they're reforming. But it's not as a video game company. They'll probably still release PES, but I imagine they're just going mobile primarily. They're also assuming expansion of Pachinko and Health & Fitness.

AAA Console games are more of a drag on potential profits than they are helping.

So with Konami kind of struggling in games after his departure, what are the chances they just sell off their properties? IGA gets Castlevania, Kojima gets MGS (which he might not want to do anymore), etc? Everyone wins?

Huh, so Metal Gear Solid V really was his last game.

Honestly I can see Konami continuing the series without Kojima just at a lower cost or bow out of the console market and focus on mobile game while have their health and gambling business prop them up.

Konami really should have broadened its development strategy instead of putting so much pressure on Kojima to prop them up.

Even with an icon like Miyamoto, Nintendo has done a good job of diversifying its talent.

They tried that with Castlevania lord of series, it didn't work.

Rising 2 shouldn't be affected since that's mostly on Platinum's side.

PlatinumGames still needs someone to fund development and to publish it, so it's dead unless a Bayonetta 2 deal happens.

So with Konami kind of struggling in games after his departure, what are the chances they just sell off their properties? IGA gets Castlevania, Kojima gets MGS (which he might not want to do anymore), etc? Everyone wins?

0%

It is more profitable to license them out rather than sell them.

Well, I guess it is good for Kojima in that he is free to do whatever he wants, and has a huge fanbase that will follow him.

I am still really excited for MGSV and any other games he makes. I actually wouldn't be surprised though if in the future Konami crawls back and tries to contract him from a distance for MGS.

I just hope I can still get a Rising 2 from Platinum. I'm not too concerned about Kojima - it'll be interesting to see what he does next, even if he takes a break for a while.

In other developments, Konami has begun removing the Kojima Productions logo from all official Metal Gear art, and it has removed Kojima from its executive team. Meanwhile, Kojima Productions’ branding has also been removed from Twitter, the official Metal Gear website, and even the LA office listing.

Their already throwing stuff to the curb - can't believe it's really over.

His point stands and you're agreeing with him, just debating semantics.

MGS was the last major series Konami had that actually sold consistently and was viewed favorably. They've destroyed just about every other IP they have, or let them stagnate to the point that Kojima was basically the face and soul of Konami.

Konami is just a husk of shit now.

I'm saying they've been a husk of shit for a really long time lol
