I say good ridden. The constant teasing and trolling of the next iteration of MG is annoying...MGSV better be huge with all this time it's taking. Felt like their was Alot of squandered opportunity for the series business wise also.

Imagine how lonely it must be for Kojima there.

Over the years he's seen the slow exodus of all the other studios and talent.

Hopefully he lands on his feet with a publisher that understands to just give the man the budget he wants and wait for the profit.

There isn't any doubt that Kojima will land on his feet. I hope that also involves the rest of his team too

Do you think that the not-Snatcher project for iOS/Android/Steam will cease development after the first or second episode? It won't reach the stretch goals for a Vita version or to hire on Harry Gregson-Williams, naturally, but it'll probably get made after a series of odd delays.

Is Namco the only Japanese publisher that has not done something bat shit crazy lately? What the fuck is going on over there? I don't have a problem with MGS V being the last game in the series, because both ends of the saga will have been neatly wrapped up. But do these companies actually have plans for 2016 and beyond? Good lord. They've got more than enough money to buy out the market cap of a DeNA-esque company, so "going mobile" cannot be the whole story here. It is like they all want to turn into intellectual property holdings firms.

It's been said a few times. Konami make most of their money with their Gyms and Gambling machines.

At least this definitively answers that question of which is the worst big Japanese publisher.

Even though we already knew Konami was the worst.

If Sony or Nintendo are smart, they'll fund a new studio with Kojima and the rest of the KojiPro team.

How fuckin' awesome would that be? I can totally see Sony doing this, actually. They love investing in 3rd party studios. It's like their favorite thing to do right now.

Last product with Konami's name on it I'll ever even consider purchasing is MGS. Granted I dunno what else I have bought of Konami's besides that game, but yeah they are officially banned from my wallet.

Treating an industry icon with such downright disrespect is beyond the final straw. MGSV will be awesome, and then Konami's chapter in our industry will likely be over.

What does Konami even do besides MGS? I know they still make PES and they own the distribution rights for Yugioh, but, c'mon, Hideo Kojima is what keeps MGS and Konami floating...

Namco/Scamco/Bamco dissolved almost all of its legendary development teams and absorbed them internally into one giant Bamco studio, cut the budgets of the teams significantly, rushed games out, and filled every title with hundreds of dollars of whale-hunting DLC.

This has been financially succesful for them in the short term, but the overall consumer satisfaction (amazon ratings of their games; sales legs of their games; decreased sequel sales of their games) is going down in flames and sooner or later this strategy will bite them in the ass and you're going to see a major re-shuffle at the studio and expect even crazier things from them once that happens.

Konami probably don't want to fly him around and pay for his exotic meals any more.

They don't want to increase his status even further. That's also why they're deleting his names from posters as if it was some weird MGS2 satire we lived in. This industry doesn't want talented people in the spotlight. It gives them too much power. Far safer to marginalize them and instead promote the IP you own instead. Like previously stated, Kojima got too influential for the gaming industry.

What IP does Konami have besides Metal Gear Solid that's actually good?

Like Capcom, Namco, Square Enix, etc. all have a bunch of other stuff. I can't think of anything for Konami. And now they're letting go of the guy that was substantial in the making of their most important franchise.

This.

John carmack getting sued.

Patrice Desilets.

Inafune.

Now Kojima.

This industry is fucked up.

Happens in all industries.

Anyway hope Kojima develops its own studio or join with Nintendo.

This is not the end , just the beginning of a new era for Kojima.

All the old guard have left Konami. All the great and talented game designers/directors are now gone after Kojima leaves. Truly the end of an era.

ToraShiro - what are your thoughts on this matter?

I hope it all turns out well for Kojima & the KojiPro team.

Regarding the Sony thing...KojiPro could use some increased stability right about now, thats for sure...

Well there went Silent Hills and pretty much everything else. I don't get it. He got to make what he wanted. His games embark his work. They're just throwing ownership on everything now that this is going on. I for one think that's BS. Scratching a man's name off his own work.

That is the problem that he's had though for years. He wanted to move on and make other things but Konami never gave him a chance. Things happen. I think his idea was if he could create the Fox engine and show his team how to create V with it he could finally let go of the series knowing his staff has the capabilities to do it. Konami has probably started getting anxious because of the time it takes to do this every new Metal Gear and wasnt willing to just keep flipping the bill.

Either way, All of those loyal to Kojima will probably be leaving with him so anything after this will just be in name. Support after the release of MGSV will be lackluster at best, MGO is what worries me the most. That whole LA team was brought on just to develop it.
