The adrenaline is real. It is very, very real. My fingers are tingling and I screamed in triumph. I wasn't streaming, but I was recording with my Hauppage Pocket Rocket, so once it compiles the 20-minute splits into one video on my computer I'll upload it to my KorbeKGaming youtube.

It's too bad the leaderboards for speed running/0 deaths include people that used the save/quit to keep re-doing sections. I have a feeling my time is pretty solid for a no-glitch no-save state run.

I'm pretty sure he can, lol. He's been teasing and taunting me the whole way. I'd love to watch him and some of the other devs doing speed runs.

Im working on my speedrun at the moment. My aim is just a lot of repitition to get the routes engraved into my memory

My advice is unless you die super early on, just run the entire game beginning to end. Develop a route that works for you where you can grab a few extra life and energy cells, and ability orbs. Ideally you wanna have triple jump by the time you reach Misty Woods, or at the very least toward the end of Forlorn Ruins. My final run I think I cleared Forlorn in like 4 or 5 minutes, and a lot of that was due to triple jump. But running segments isn't as good IMHO because you need the feeling for that marathon 90-minute run, where you have finger fatigue setting in by the time you reach Misty/Forlorn.

Has there been a patch for the PC version to fix the frame rate issues? I'm teetering on the edge of buying this now as a reward to myself for landing myself a new job haha. But I've been holding off until that issue gets fixed. So if it's fixed, count me in!

I'm at the Forlorn ruins. How close am I to the end? IDK that I'll be able to hold off buying Bloodborne but I really don't like playing two games at the same time.
 
Thomasmahler, not to derail but what are some of your favorite consoles/games? I read what inspired Ori but was just curious to learn a tad more.

Hmmm... There are two things I'm generally interested in when it comes to approaching game design at the moment.

I'm generally inspired by the classics, the masterpieces of the olden days: Super Metroid, Zero Mission, A Link to the Past, Zelda 1, Mario Bros 3, Symphony of the Night, Super Mario Kart, etc. etc.

I think designers back then had so many limitations that they had to craft these perfect little packages and you can just see that that meant that they had to polish and perfect their design. It's amazing how much limitations can actually help when it comes to creating art.

On the other hand, I'm also a fan of a lot of modern games and would like to influence my designs based on the improvements they made to their various genres: Dark Souls, Halo, Starcraft, DOTA, Meat Boy, 1001 Spikes, Threes, Minecraft, Cave Story, Shovel Knight, Spelunky, etc. etc.

I think in general as a designer / artist, it's your job to look at what's come before and then try to push the entire genre of the work forward with your own ideas. There's lots of games / developers I admire and I quite openly steal a lot of ideas at the beginning of my creative process and then shape them into something new. So I'm always a bit caught up between trying to 'simply' improve upon what's been done before and trying to create something entirely new. I think you can see that well with Ori - It's definitely inspired by the old time greats, but also brings quite some new stuff to the table, but I wouldn't call it revolutionary. It wasn't intended to be. It was intended to be a perfect loveletter to the games we grew up with. Having said that, it'd be very interesting to create something completely new and unique now.

There's a lot of small prototypes I've made over the years and there's a couple of really interesting projects that I'd like to take a closer look at now that we're done with Ori and the Blind Forest. And some are inspired by title X or Y, while others are completely batshit crazy out there and we'll have to see if they can actually become something good / real.

That soundtrack (which i bought) has been on constant repeat the last week. And have any of the people behind the artwork done work for other games? It's quite amazing how much the stars (and the right people) have aligned for this project from a presentation point of view. In that sense, it reminds me of Journey, which is the highest praise i can give since that means it's pretty close to perfect.

@Thomas - Yeah I watched that WR speedrun. Freaking crazy but also impossible to do without the save state glitching because if you glitch past the flame walls in Mt Huru you can't get back out without the save state glitch.

Does anyone know what the WR is with no save state usage? I know you can skip forlorn ruins without it but I think that's the only thing you can skip IIRC, maybe misty woods too?

I'm on my 3rd playthrough and I'm trying to finish the game under 3 hours. I'm currently at 50 minutes and finished the ginso tree. Do I have enough time left? :p

It's a bunch of industry veterans afaik, but with the way game development and marketing works, about 99% of the workers stay in the shadows, even if they're super talented. It's only the upper echelon of producers and directors that get to be the focus point of interviews and that get named outside of the credits and stuff.

I know Thomas has worked on SC2 (cinematics?) with Blizzard before.

I mean, if you're really curious about the pedigree, I suppose you could google most of the names from the core team in the credits and get some personal sites with portfolios etc. The info is out there, just have to dig it up.
 
Finished it last night. The last section had me almost rage-quit and yell obscenities at my monitor. But I made it through and gosh.,.. lovely game. So glad I stuck with the difficult bits, it was all very rewarding.

Though obviously the presentation is top notch, I love how well the controls are balanced and how hard the game can be - it's been a while since I had what I felt was an "old school" challenge with all the mod cons (of quick reloads and this DIY save points - excellent idea, well executed).

Congrats to all the devs, this was superb.

But a no-death or <3 hour playthrough? Not at my age...

I did, at least for the composer and the list of games he worked on seemed very small, which made me wonder (hence the question). Then again, Austin Wintory was not well known before his Journey OST (at least afaik) so sometimes people just need the right occasion/opportunity to shine/make a big step forward (which i feel a lot of the people working on this game did).

so for the 2nd time now, the game just "didn't save....." this is extremely frustrating

yesterday the game closed when in sleep mode, and waking from sleep, I lost 4 hours of game play, contacted the devs, they told me to exit the game and go back into it and it will save.

so tonight i just put another 4-5 hours in, did exactly what they said, and guess what... it didn't save... what is going on??

is there ANY way to get my save back or to find a save somehow??, I really do not feel like playing the same part a 3rd time for another 5 hours and AGAIN lose my save...
 
I finally finished last night at around 10 hours. Beautiful game, but the frame stuttering on XB1 stuck out to me like a sore thumb. Very puzzling to see the frequency at which this happened, especially when there was so much polish in every other area of the game.

Also as many others have said, it sucks being locked out of areas and never being able to get the pickups you might have missed.

After booting up the game three times to I literally cannot make any progress after the Ginso tree escape because Ori bugs out and can't jump out of the water. Skimming the thread though this seems to be a common problem and is getting patched out soon?

Man I finally beat this game. What a game excellent throughout. Being married with kids I was only able to play in hour spurts and sporadicslly. It took me a little over 12 hours first run. My 12 year old self is mad because I died 750 times. I did do a lot of experimenting but damn 750 is a ridiculous amount. Thomas and everybody at Moon. I am on board with whatever you guys do next.

Don't worry about the number, dying is part of the gameplay in Ori :) It's a little mean to show it right there in the pause menu, but hey, it should also encourage you to maybe try again and beat Ori and the Blind Forest without dying as many times now.

That happened to me too, I exited to the menu after saving and checked that my save was still there and it never happened again. If you want to be extra safe, make a copy of the save.

There are folks that died 900 times their first run mate. Don't let your 12yr old self be too upset with you. :)

I played Ori to completion, which is an exception for me. I enjoyed the power progression and mood of the game a lot. Great attention to music and visual detail.

I wish control wasn't taken away during the story parts, or at least so abruptly. I understand the thinking behind the choice of "full control and you're responsible or zero control and you just watch", I just think less of games that take control away. You can make it work by keeping the limited-control parts easy, so gamers won't get themselves killed and blame you for it. Another World did this to great effect (and in the 2d space, to boot) and was a huge influence on me.

I have completed the story a few moments ago?

What should I say? One of the best games I have ever played. That music, artdesign and gameplay totally flashed me. This game has a special vibe! Thank you Moon Studios!
 
I started a no deaths playthrough..died within 15 minutes :c I'm going for the speedrun achievement instead now, cleared the first world in 55 minutes which apparently some people can beat the entire game in.
 
Gosh, the soundtrack is so ridiculously good. I don't know what could possibly top it at this point in terms of best soundtrack of the year.

Might start my second playthrough soon.

Most definitely. In a way it's almost too bad that the Ginso escape was so good, because the other escapes, while great, weren't AS good as the Ginso one. Maybe it was just the rush of it being the first one, but it just felt like the escapes peaked early there, lol.

Such a great game though.

so I'm up to the fire level where you carry the ice ball to stay alive, but it seems the iceball has disappeared... is this a bug or part of the game?

I seem to be stuck after opening the door with the 4 rocks.. any help would be appreciated

help please!!

I went to jump back into my game, and its loaded my progress from about 5 hours ago...

Basically I started the game last night, played till about 25% and turned the console off while I was in game.

I jumped back in this morning, and it resumed the play session and i kept playing. I was saving by holding B continually throughout my play though, played it today for about 5-6 hours and again, turned the console off while in game. I just turned my system on and noticed the game was closed for some reason, so I boot it up, click Start Game, and it only showed my progress from last night, nothing from today....

so what the heck happened?, when the game saves, is it just a checkpoint save or something?, not an actual save..?, why had my progress not saved... is there any way to get back to my normal session?, have I just lost 5 hours of playtime?

any help would be great!! :(

This happened to me aswell. :( I just lost four hours of gametime, but luckily it is an awesome game so no worries. But I am a little worried it will happen again.

If you're referring to the door that requires four keystones to open, that has a hanging spider to the left of it, when you open that door and pass through you'll go down three or four floating rocks to a platform where you'll place the 'ice ball' onto a pedestal. This sets off a change in the geometry above to create a bridge spanning to the other side where two flame jets are moving left and right, and the pathway up from there leads to the end of the level.

I've not heard of a glitch where the ball disappears before that part. Not to say that it's impossible, just that I haven't heard of it nor seen it happen myself.
 
Finished it in around 7 hours, 99%, missing one life and one energy cell, bit disappointed by that.

I had 100% of the map outside of the last dungeon, and all upgrades but couldn't see a life or energy cell on the map, so I figured they would be in the dungeon. Nope.

May redo it again 100% in under 3 hours some time. Shouldn't be too hard, just rush till the last ability then get all the upgrades easily
