He was saying just "hello". I was trying to say something (both in english and italian) and he wasn't answering me (like he didn't hear me or something), keep saying "hello". Then got cut off. I'll try again in 10 mins.

was he saying 'hello' in italian or english?
if it is a marketing thing, maybe they never expected for real Italian speakers to call this number. Only Americans?

Head transplant, as Siergio explains it, requires the spinal cord to be severed below a certain point in order to make the operation. It's strange that in the VGA trailer, Snake has 2 scars in his back, like if we was operated somehow down there :

probably just a few coincidences and direct links due to KojiPro doing research in advanced transplant theories and practices, but this is a damn good theory / conspiracy.

Standard pre recorder vodafone message.

Called it a third time and it rang 4 or 5 times then went inot voicemail. I'm pretty sure he's rejecting the phone calls.

maybe it's some kind of deal between the real Doctor and Kojima.
Doctor gets even more attention for his work and Kojima for his game. Win-win situation if you ask me.

This is not a ruse. Kojima just found him before. That guy could probably sue for his likeness being in the game if Kojima didn't reach out to him before.

I no longer believe, only because I don't think Konami would actually pay someone to sit on the end of a phone and take calls from Metal Gear fans.
