One Month of PS4 sales in China beats 8 months of Xbox One sales (Rumour)

I'm just commenting about how comical it is that the only spoken language tracks for DW have always been Japanese and English. If there was a large sales push in China, maybe Tecmo-Koei would actually consider ponying up for a full Chinese dub of the games.

It would also need to depend on which Chinese language they use. I would prefer that they speak in traditional Mandarin (Taiwanese and SE Asian Mandarin) like those live-action period dramas such as Han Wu Da Di.

Hearing it in Putonghua (modern Mandarin, a.k.a. mainland Mandarin) would rub me the wrong way.

EDIT:
To clarify for other people, there are TONS of Chinese "dialects" that really aren't dialects and are essentially independent languages with varying degrees of independence/commonality. The only thing tying them all together as part of the Chinese language is because they use the standard Chinese characters/words for their written portion, but the verbal portion is completely alien.

They been getting Falcom PC games though

This might be slightly off topic but some Falcom games released in China also included bonus dakimakuras.

I wouldn't be surprised that PS4 is doing better in China than XB1 in terms of official sales. Officially released Chinese PS4s are region free and thus can play any game available on PS4 if imported. Officially released Chinese XB1s are region-locked to China, so can't play imports. However sales of both are poor relative to the size of China... Certainly not near 1%, but it is a good start for PS4 if the rumors are true.

I would be OK with any form of Mandarin really. It would just be nice to hear these historical Chinese people actually speaking Chinese for once. Considerations about speaking with proper period dialects wouldn't even be on the radar for me because simply getting any kind of Chinese dub would be a huge reversal from how Tecmo-Koei has traditionally treated this franchise.

ZhugeEX is killing it this thread, just like the time Lord Kongming killed Wang Ling with his words

Haha, well lets hope I don't do that to anyone in this thread :p

Actually Xbox One received a software update to unlock the console and allow the use of foreign/imported game disc. This was a direct response to the fact Sony had their console unlocked from day 1.

PS4s and XB1s for the Chinese market are both sort of region-free at the moment.

ZhugeEX had an update about a month ago where Microsoft got the permission to do a firmware update on the Chinese XB1s to have the same restrictions as the Chinese PS4s. This means that they can both play imported games.

I agree. My dubbing preferences come from being traumatized by how terrible the English dub for Dynasty Warriors 3 was. For example, "COW COW HAS ARRIVED!!!" was a particularly traumatic thing for me to hear.

I just want them to do it right the first time around so that people don't completely write off the series.

Ah, didn't know about that! ^^' Thank you for correcting me, Zhuge. I guess that was just one more thing for MS to 180 on at least for the Chinese market.

It is hilarious now that I just turned 31, but back when the game came out it was all sorts of acid-trippingly bad.

XD

This is even better haha. Especially the yellow turban stuff towards the end.

No worries. Of course it's a good thing now. But the general reaction hasn't been positive as a lot of forum users are saying it should have been there from the beginning and that there is nothing to stop MS reversing the decision.

The problem is that the shops, as far as I can see when I go to Sunning or some shop like that, still just have the launch-games and dont carry imported ones.

It's the only first-party Sony game ever developed/published by SCEHK(Hong Kong). A faithful adaption of the Legend of Condor Heroes (part 1).

If we're talking about relics of a bygone era, this is pretty much the defacto game in Sony's first-party line-up.

An IP they don't even own, published/developed by a branch that doesn't exist anymore, only exist in Chinese language, and would never had existed in today's global WWS structure, because it's exemplary of back when Sony games were greenlit by their respective regional business units.

I remember it came out late in the PS1's lifetime also.

It did take many liberties with the plot though. Like turning Ouyang Feng into a real toad at the end lol.

That was the best worst voice acting of all time haha.

Part of the appeal of Dynasty Warriors lol.

Xbox has nothing to do with the issue in speaking of. It's the rate of sales. If XB sold through 71k in 1 month I'd say the sane. But I'm just speculating.
As pointed out by PoweredByHentai (LOL, what is with your name, dude? XD), you mentioned the XB1 in some of your earlier posts. I only mentioned the XB1 because you did, not trying to start a console war or anything sinister. The point is you can't directly compare the sales of the PS4 and XB1 because of a few reasons I mentioned earlier, but I'll repeat myself:
1. Playstation is far more popular than XBox in Asia
2. Most consumers in China still think the XB1 is region locked despite the recent update whereas the PS4 was never fully region locked from the start

I always said 'Kao Kao' for years as a kid, and then my friend in high school who also played Romance of the Three Kingdoms (this was back during IV and VI) told me I was an idiot, and it was obviously 'Cow Cow.'

I'm amused and not surprised that DW8CE is the best selling game on the PS4 in China.

Guess all those years of Koei releasing an Asian edition with Traditional Chinese makes sense.

Though I do wonder, did they give it a Simplified Chinese localization for China? Can't imagine they would have just sent over the Asian edition.

Yeh, they did simplified Chinese. Its one of the requirements by govt to release a game there.

I have bought FFX/X-2 HD and DW8CE so I can only speak on these two games.

As per the government's requirements, all games must be localized in simplified Chinese. This includes game logos and in-game flavor texts too. For example, simplified Chinese version of FFX/X-2 receives a new logo:

http://www.playstation.com.cn/psvita/gamesdetail/gamedetail_fanasyx.htm

In-game texts seem to differ from the traditional Chinese counterparts and the localization is done from scratch (not done by converting from traditional Chinese version).

I don't know if he just worded poorly or intentional, but he's now completely wrong in that regard. PC gaming in China is vastly different enviroment that what we always know today. Theirs is filled with MOBAs, F2P, and other shit that designed with paytowin option. Those games are still games, but we would never see anything like Journey to the West RPG or anything in that vein if China still indulge in F2P multiplayer games.

I remember my first purchase of the PSOne Condor Heroes game and thought "game's easy, rough compared to JRPGs, but there's potential, looking forward to future of CRPGs!"

Then I bought the PC RPG of "Swordsman" & "Legend of Dragon Son" and went... "okay, these are piece-of-craps, but I still await the future!"

And then I see the current landscape, and there's no one who's developing proper single player CRPGs of all my favourite Chinese literature, both wuxia and non-wuxia. Instead we get MMOs like Swordsman and whatnot. I want to be Ling Wu Chung, not some random joe from the Wah San Sect!

And even when I pin my hopes on Assassin Creed giving me a proper game set in Imperial China, my hopes are dashed when AssCreed Chronicles had a China storyline, which imo, diminishes the opportunity of that setting appearing in a AAA AssCreed setting.

The yolo (electronics retailer) near me got rid of all their Xbox one stuff about a month ago. I haven't set foot in a sunning or other electronic place in a long time so I don't know how their ps4 vs Xbox sections look.

There are two small 'gray market' import shops on my street, they have been selling ps4 and vita since launch, also sell 3ds and accessories for all consoles. They could probably get a Xb1 if you wanted but I've never seen one, also never seen a wii u. They have had 360s though in the past, not sure about now.

It's ironic if we considering the fact that most games with main focus on Chinese subject are made not by Chinese themselves. RotK, and Suikoden, both are made by Japanese. We only need to wait for Creative Assembly made Total War games on Warring States period to complete the irony.

That reminds me. Do we have anyone in Hong Kong and/or Taiwan that can chip in on those places?

I would kill for a Total War: Warring States game.

I'm going to take the diplomatic route and just say that I'll be glad if our Chinese gaming brothers and sisters take to console gaming and enjoy the titles that they play on whatever platform they buy. China is a huge PC market and any foothold consoles make there can only bode well for the industry's health overall. It is vital for all of the big three console makers to open up new markets if they want to stave off mobile's growing dominance.

I know few people in Taiwan who have PS4.

And that's to be expected really after all the support that Sony show in the country.

Has the support been bad?

As opposed to the Vita, which is probably the system with the most games with Chinese localisation?

Off topic, but Diablo 3 launched on China last week and sales have already surpass 1 million (press release here: http://www.diablo3.com.cn/article/official/54).

The price of the standard copy is ¥198 (≈$31.9), which is close to the PS4 software price in China (¥199 or ¥249). I know Blizzard is special but still, the market has potential.

No, I mean support has been good. There are lots of games being localised for the TW/HK market.

I went to Taiwan last year, and PS4's presence at retail is just significantly larger than Xbox, in general.

Granted, all the hotspots around Taipei all had large Sony outlets, with big PS4 presence anyway, so there's a protracted skew to Sony anyway.

Although i am not an expert on Chinese market neither i have much clue about it. but recently i was following some movies sales and they report that Avengers: Age of Ultron opened to US $188 china and it is expected to open at US $200 million in china. Similarly Furious 7 has crossed US $323 million in China.. These massive numbers have been a things of very recent past and just a few years earlier crossing US $100 million was a huge huge thing in China.

So looking at the entertainment market potential as a whole i think its quite a bit and Consoles can benefit a lot from it also and may be within this generations of console China can become one of the top 5 largest market..

Just my 2 cents

One of the most overlooked aspects of the growth of Hollywood business in China is the fact that there's been large growths in the number of cinema screens in China.

The investment needed from the average consumer hasn't changed, but the opportunity to invest in that content is multiplied many times over simply because more people can watch it now.

The Xbone is a strange one.

I mean it's mostly competitive against the PS4, it's just, nobody wants one.

The Xbone needs a live aid '86 moment to get its self back out there.

It needs to go back and erase the pre-launch PR disaster. it has nothing to do with the actual console itself, but the perception.
