The Witcher 3 runs at 1080p ULTRA ~60 fps on a 980

One of them said "well over 60 FPS"

I hope it was really well over 60fps, cause Nvidia Hairworks, Anti-aliasing, Sharpening and Light Shafts were turned off, and SSAO was used instead of HBAO+
I would have expected all those effects on for Ultra preset, i hope the game still mantains 60fps with these stuff turned on with a GTX 980

Are you fucking serious CDPR?

As an AMD owner (more than satisfied with my card), unfortunately this was expected. They pay money to the devs to prioritise their cards, which happens all the time at the big studios. Rocksteady with their Arkham Knight unfortunately as well. Ah well, on the bright site, AMD's gonna get Deus Ex Mankind Divived though, so it's not all lost.

Well, good luck with that.

(I'd find it disappointing if the maximum presets were so low as to achieve 60 FPS on a single card at launch)

I never understood this. The right argument would be to say that u wish the graphics looked a lot better than they do but you already know what the game looks like so to say that your disappointed that a single card can run it makes no sense. If anything u should be wishing that a 980 could do even more than this. I'm sure there will be much better looking games in the future and I for one hope my 980 can handle those better looking games as well

Or maybe he has a cards, or cards, more powerful than a 980 and he'd like to be able to flex his computer's muscles? I like the idea of games that push the requirements and demand higher spec'd hardware, as long as it's optimized to use that power for good lookin'.

He is saying he wished it pushed graphics furthur forward. Like Crysis, where the Hardware had to grow into the software. Future proof, and ages in reverse, looking better as better hardware releases.

Makes perfect sense. PC gamers like tech to advance as fast as possible, and to do so, software has to push hardware. Otherwise there is no motivation to push tech.

No, I also am dissapointed they don't have graphical settings that push far beyond what a 980 is capable of.

Im sorry but i have a huge issue with this view point. Nvidia and cd projeckt are marketing nvidia specific features for this game. Heck nvidia is bundling the game with gtx 970 and 980 and hyping up the features that are "possible" with these cards...now you are telling me i shouldnt expect to be able to turn on these features and have a stable acceptable framerate...

Im totally for games pushing the graphical enevelope but if your marketing these features on these device for a specific game i think its totally readonable to assume they should be able to....

I agree with the disappointment about lowered graphical effects. Uber mode on The Witcher 2 was brutal at the time. There should be similar Ultra settings that basically require SLI Titan Xs to get 60fps with.

I wonder if a dedicated physx card would make a difference for this game. I was thinking of picking up a 750ti just for that but gonna wait it out to see if there are any actual benefits.

But honestly, I'm pretty sure i'll be able to run everything on ultra at 1080/30 with my 780.....i hope.

Been a while since I had a good rig, what program do you use to watch FPS ? Is FRAPS stil the way to go ?

I still use it, it's very simple and accurate and it only displays the FPS and nothing else (no temperature etc.). It's my go-to software, yes.

dedicated physx cards really make little sense most of the time. You'd always be better off (and be spending money more efficiently) by buying a stronger GPU instead of a moderately powerful gpu + physx card.

How do we expect this to run with 970's in SLI not oc'd with a 2500k oc'd to 4.3?

there are pages upon pages of people asking these questions. The game isn't out yet..... but come on , two 970s are going to perform very well in any game.....you wouldn't have chosen to spend $700 on them if you didn't know that.

Hope this runs well on my 670. I'll lock the fps to 30 and hope for the best. I'd much rather wait till I buy a vr headset before getting a new card.

Yes that actually makes sense which is what I was saying. I also wish there was a game that graphically destroyed everything we have now but witcher is not that game. We've all seen it so what I'm saying is that based of what I've seen from the witcher Id be disappointed if my 980 couldn't handle it, not that I wouldn't like the witcher to have even better graphics than it does now. I think what he meant to say was that he wished witcher looked better and that the devs would have pushed the graphics farther but instead it came of as if he was disappointed that a 980 is powerful enough to handle what the they've shown us.

Got my 970 installed yesterday (my old 760 GTX is now my physx card). Hopefully I can run high\ultra settings at 1080p/30fps.

This bit from the manuel made me laugh.

Poor AMD.

Also a bit about importing saves.

I wish it would let you import but still change a few things. I killed Letho but I'm thinking maybe I should have let him live.

any idea what the recommended specs give? only thing holding me back is my cpu. i have an i5-4590 but it needs an i7-3770. i got an 290.

if i can't get 60fps with graphics similar to PS4 then i'm not gonna bother. 60fps is the only reason i'll buy it on PC.

GTX660 SLI and a 2500k @ 4.5.

Really depended on VRAM usage so I might turn a couple settings down or opt for 30FPS.

Pretty similar to me, except I have a 2600k. Medium should be good for 60fps. Or turn everything up and lock it to 30fps like you suggested.

I feel like ultra should be in quotations if it doesn't even include AA.

Planning to cap this at 45fps. Hopefully looking impressive too.

Yeah true, I just want all the bells and whistles including hairworks.

Isn't there a conversation you can have in the game to just re-select choices anyway? I lost my TW2 save ages ago and am hoping that this will suffice. Don't want to replay the game before the sequel launches either as I know I'll get fatigued. Especially if the new one is 100 hours for everything as suggested.

Who doesn't? I have two 970s and play at 2560x1600 but I'd be upset if I'm able to completely max the game with them. That would mean that the game isn't very forward thinking when it comes to the engine / graphical effects. I want the game to have things that I won't be able to use now but may be able to at high framerates with my next generation of gpu(s). I want something that gives owners of Titan X SLI setups a reason to have their cards....... that's one of the points of PC gaming in my opinion.... ultimate scale-ability.

Yeah you can import or answer questions. There are only 4/5 questions though. I saw them on a youtube video yesterday. They don't cover everything just a few main points to decide what certain characters are doing and where they are in the world.

Locking the game at 30fps on 7970 Ghz 3GB with the best possible details.
Can't wait to have it under my hands to not pull stuff out of thin air.

Don't worry, hairworks will probably bring it all to the ground for you.

Although another gaffer reassured me about it being different to fc4 and remade for tw3 or something, I'm still hella skeptical after fc4 performance.

I wonder what even actually works on the Nvidia effects side or if they'll just include a bunch of broken, unplayable effects because it's been marketed.

Guh, FC4 really upset me with the non-support of 16:10 resolutions so I never really messed around much with hairworks. Looking forward to playing this proper PC game.

What's the best way to lock fps to 30 these days? Nvidia control panel or through something like msi afterburner?

UnrealEck

People have a weird definition of locked.
To me, lock would mean it doesn't move. It's locked in place. Therefore you can't lock a framerate because you can't set a minimum. The minimum is determined by the load on the hardware at any given time.

You can cap the framerate.
