Kotaku - Microsoft Punishes Gears Leakers By Making Their Xbox Ones Unusable

Full story here

Over the past couple of days, testers for a company called VMC Games have been leaking out videos from their current build, the upcoming (unannounced) Gears of War remake for Xbox One. Both VMC and Microsoft are not pleased, and today, they came down hard, telling testers in an e-mail that the leakers have been not only banned from VMC’s program, but will lose access to their Xbox Ones entirely for a period of time to be determined by Microsoft in the future.

Weird, didn't even know consoles could be remotely bricked.

What is important to point out- according to the email (as seen on Kotaku), the testers agreed to this in their NDA.

Edit: For those wondering why- it is the only way to deny them access to the build they already hvae on their Xbox (and to prevent further leaks).

They should be thankful the loss of a 350 dollar device is all that happens to them for breaking an agreed to NDA. Probably could be sued for a hell of a lot more than that.

I know both of these two guys, and they fail to mention it that the original person who leaked it has turned it round and proved it was not his fault, and later recieved a sorry letter and $1000

WHY WON'T IT READ!?

Right call by Microsoft here. NDAs are no laughing matter. They'll be lucky if a non-functioning Xbox One is the only hit they take.

Break NDA and you suffer the consequences.

I however am not a fan of any company that can completely lock your own console for whatever arbitrary reason.

Sorry dudes. This isn't your chance to 'preview a game early'. That little NDA thing is important to pay attention to.

......what the hell? Aint that a bit harsh? if it was in a contract or T&A that they signed then okay but.....what?

If they signed an NDA and MS really wanted to be dicks they could take them to court and give them massive fines.

Bricking their Xbox One is about the best case scenario possible for the leakers.

If you're dumb enough to break a legally binding agreement then I do not feel sorry for you. They are lucky to just lose access to their console, Microsoft could've pursued legal action in court.

NDA or not. They shouldn't make the console itself unusable. Idc. Ban them from any future beta or early game invites but I think it's horrible they can do this
