Is there a MS marketing deal attached to this? Most likely going to get it on PC but if there is a marketing deal in place it is an absolute pass on PS4 since all the MS marketing deal games run poorly on PS4 through some sort of crazy coincidence that is obviously not related to the marketing deal...obviously.

I don't understand this post.

"This game better not let me play with a friend if I want to!"

This game better not sacrifice some of the single player RPG elements that made the franchise popular because some people can't play alone anymore.

Just look at the Elder Scrolls Online for further reference, and that didn't have a multiplayer-impossible, time-stopping feature like V.A.T.S..

I think overall plot in New vegas was better, but I actually think the vault was a better tutorial/intro starting point. The whole you're "the courier thing" was overplayed, especially since I don't remember a single quest in that game where you deliver mail.

Being a courier in the wastelands is a bit different than just delivering mail, I think. It's an occupation fraught with danger, having to survive and navigate around horrifying creatures and deadly radiation, to deliver anything from parcels, to weapons, to anything else you might need to live in the apocalypse. Hell, the story starts after the courier was to deliver something that could give immense power to anyone who might intercept it. We learn a lot more about the courier and one of their darker deliveries during Lonesome Road, which contained both some awesome backstory and an incredible conclusion to the courier's tale.

IMO it's just going to be hard to top that.

You know the only thing I'm not hyped about, fucking Vault back story. Enough with the friggin Vaults, it's such a cheap way to allow the player to enter the world blank. Obsidian did it perfectly with the whole Courier story, can we please get something like that instead?

I'm gonna be there day one, I mean it looks great. But did it really take them that long to add some color filters?

We've had quite a few people in this thread complain about the color or the "cartoony" look, probably why it took them "that long". I really like the slightly more colorful or varied/contrasty look though.

One was downgraded from the actual reveal, the other is actually showing the game in how it'd look when released.

Do you have evidence for this? Unless the game is nearing completion and considering how much can change in a small period of time unless it is direct video from a game that has gone gold then it won't be the final output. It might get better, it could possibly get worse, or on par just different but for it to be identical I would be highly doubtful.

Am I the only one who thinks the game looks pretty damn fantastic, in terms of the graphics?

Do all games need to look as good as Witcher does in order to be passable? People wanted Fallout 4 for years, and when we finally get it the first thing people do is complain.
It looks great. If there are going to be comparisons to TW3, I'd much rather it be about the quality of the quest design and writing. Other than that, I don't see the two series being all that comparable as they are two completely different bests.

I like how this is pretty much the standard excuse for any kind of criticism people can throw at bethesda.

"lol we know it sucks but there will be mods".

Eh, I honestly don't care what people think of Bethesda, they're a pretty sloppy developer. I do however care for the modding community that they've cultured around their games.

I'm just saying, compare Bethesda's older releases to their contemporaries and then look at the jump in fidelity between their own predecessors. I called it yesterday. This jump is about the same as FO3 -> Skyrim jump. The vanilla versions of both looked like complete ass. Honestly, people comparing the game to the Witcher 3 only have themselves to blame for thinking this game would be anything more than the standard fair of Bethesda open-worlds.

Skyrim PS3 ^

Oh, so now Skyrim on PS3 runs at 1080p with antialiasing, soft shadows, HD textures, and ambient occlusion?

Come on GAF, this shit was funny at first but now I'm starting to seriously worry about the mental state of some people here.

Well, perhaps because Bethesda should have the budget of god and are apparently doing very little with it graphically?

BethDev: Hey uh, Todd, we have a problem here..

Todd Howard: What is it BethDev?

BethDev: Well we can't include shadows on every object in the game and still have them work with the nuko-gun and be wearable on armor as well...

Todd Howard: Hmm, I see. Well BethDev you know there's only one thing to do, it's what we pretty much have to do every time with these problems....

BethDev: What's that, sir?

Todd Howard: Just throw money at it.

BethDev: Excuse me, sir?

Todd Howard: Just throw money at it. In fact whenever you have a problem you can't figure out, just throw money at it.

BethDev: Uh, OK, sir.... can I get a raise?

Todd Howard: No.

Well, those are two possible explanations. I'm sure there are more.

I'm just saying that comparing this game to Witcher 3 and complaining about the results is actually fair, unlike many of the comparisons and complaining which occurs on GAF ;)

True enough, it certainly looks worse than Witcher 3 right now.

So who wants to bet the main character is going to from a Vault and that he/she is going to get involved with the Brotherhood of Steel and the Enclave again?
This trailer certainly hit all the Fallout cliches.
It almost feels like a parody.

I'm on the hype train, but I'm tapping out of this thread. It's getting to toxic with the graphics-whining. Til the #BE3 thread, later!

I think I'm partly not so bummed out by the simpler graphics because of the colours...they look pretty good and have decent erm... coverage, I was worried it was going to be super grey/brown.

The game tends to have a lot of jank as well, doesn't always mesh well with state of the art visuals.

Just need some high quality aa and a high enough resolution.

Yeah, it seems that Bethesda has chosen to spend their rendering budget ramping up the LOD instead of lighting, which has been the hallmark of this new generation.

Hopefully they can find some room to up the lighting effects between now and release. It will make a huge difference.

Graphics look fine for a game where you can pick up every fork, spoon, stim, etc. People need to realize these new consoles are not going to work magic, Bethesda may have some new AI or physics features (or maybe coop) that caused them to have a lower graphical quality.

Gameplay> Graphics can also apply here. Hell maybe they are targeting 60fps at 1080p on Xbox One and PS4? That would be awesome and well worth it.

Regardless the PC version with graphics mods is going to look amazing in the end just like skyrim did (don't people remember how dated Skyrim looked?)

Conversely, you could also look at Divinity: Original Sin or the Souls games and see evidence that it's perfectly possible to integrate co-op play into a single player RPG without sacrificing gameplay depth.

BethDev: Hey uh, Todd, we have a problem here..

Nice story. You know what, I know how development works. That's why I'm comparing similar games.

They aren't wrong though.

I have no idea how people play Bethesda games on consoles.

It's actually really easy, just insert the disc and launch the game from your library. Or you can download it from the store and launch it from your library. In some cases they even let you pay and download the game before its releases and then when it finally releases we can play it instantly. We call that a pre-order.

Is a world in which a Bethesda game runs at 60fps on consoles day one even possible?

*thinks about it*

So goddamn happy a company decided to give us actual footage of what the game will play like, and not some decorated bullshit target render/in-engine nonsense.

Game looks fantastic, especially the animations on the dog.

I honestly
want to
believe that this will come out this year. Playing this with a steam controller will be great.

Many responses in this thread is why i'm sure the core gaming market's decline is as much to do with the publishers and devs as it is to do with the gamers. Damn i'm having an headache with the amount of people freaking out over visuals in Fallout by Bethesda no less

This assertion is wrong. The Witcher 3 and Fallouts 3, NV, and 4 are actually perfect for comparisson.

Certainly more so than the likes of DA, GTA or ME.

Hahahaha, seriously... Not to mention full HDR! I didn't know the PS3 was the little engine that could.

Fallout 4 is much more realized and distinct. Visually better than ever. Can't wait.

It's fair but I'd consider The Witcher 3 an anomaly rather than a bar that's set. We won't have another game that good for quite some time, I'd imagine.

I have no idea what they would actually gain from hamstringing the graphics just to keep the game running at 60fps. It's not like it's some kind of competitive FPS and that V.A.T.S. doesn't exist. To me it looks like it actually did start out as a cross-gen game, but for whatever reason they decided to shift their focus to current gen only, keeping the work they had already done with the previous gen. Even if it's not cross-gen, it looks like it.

The trailer was also probably showing the PC footage.

You mean to tell me an open-world Bethesda game isn't top of the line graphically? I am simply stunned by this development. Fallout 3/New Vegas certainly didn't look like low end PS2 games, or anything.

Y'all coming to the wrong franchise to be counting triangles.

I'm so god damn excited.

Oblivion was pretty impressive when it came out.

Considering how large Bethesda and ZeniMax are, there really isn't much excuse to be falling behind other games in terms graphical fidelity - especially considering how large their budget probably is.

It must be pretty shitty to be a dev and create such detailed environments, only for people to turn around and psis all over your efforts because they have a skewed memory of how last-gen games look.

Not needs magic to put better graphic compared this. Dying Light for example it's still better. And what it has to do better AI or physics with downgrade graphic?

Looks amazing! Not shocked at the typical "shit grafix, shit game." comments from people who apparently haven't played a Bethesda game before...

Who cares what gen it "looks like" it's for? That is not even close to being the most important factor with one of these games as PS3 owners of F3, NV & Skyrim can attest..

As someone who has been on the Bethesda bandwagon since before Morrowind came out, no there is not really any excuse for Fallout 4 looking the way it does right now.

I'm not really a graphics nut, I mean I love Vanilla Skyrim as it is, the way it looks is fine and I've never had an issue with it even today.

But despite the fact I like what I saw in tone and setting for Fallout 4 and I'll probably enjoy the game just fine.

There is just really no good reason that a major title from Bethesda of all people should look like this in 2015. We live in a world now where a bunch of companies have mastered the open world genre to a point where you can make an extremely impressive looking game and also have it be totally open world, that's no longer a shock, and Bethesda with this reveal look like they're honestly stuck in 2012.

That's all there is to it, you can defend it all you want, you're right that graphics aren't everything and the game will probably play fine, that's not the point though.

But as it stands it just looks blatantly dated in a way that implies that they're either just fucking lazy or they've really fallen out of touch with then Open World RPG genre, I would like to think they'll come out and say that was an Alpha, because I can SEE where it can be easily improved on and polished, but such a lengthy trailer to me implies that this is probably nearly done.
