Game Informer July cover story: Halo 5 [Up: Character Shots]

Map DLC being free is huge. DLC maps splitting up the player base has been a problem since Halo 2, and got worse with 3 / Reach / 4.

Keeping the community together is vital. Splitting via DLC was always going to cause problems, so I am glad they have looked into this. MS must know its also the best thing to do.

They need to regroup and expand the Halo community and hopefully Halo 5 does that.

That dude looks EXACTLY like Nathan Fillion. Wasn't he in odst? Is this the same character?

Sorry Halo lore nerds I'm ignorant.

Screens look better than Halo 4 to me. Not a Massive jump but Halo 4 was some black magic to begin with. Should look good in motion when we see some campaign gameplay next week.

I'm afraid the plot will involve a lot of senseless drama, and give little exposition to all these new characters.

Blue team versus an outside threat would have been a much easier plot to get right.

This is how I felt about Halo 4, and what I fear I will feel in 5, too. just 343 going "please care about these characters and issues" alot.

Which would be absolutely fine. If it's cool enough people will still buy it, and it gives nobody an advantage and doesn't split up the community.
I just don't want it to look too corny... I like it when Halo doesn't take itself too seriously, but shit like grunt birthday party in Reach MP is annoying.

I feel like I'll be disappointed, as I now have Republic Commando comparisons starting up in my head about controlling Blue Team and Fireteam Osiris.

Edit: Buck is back!?

Free DLC is awesome, but the screenshots make the game look graphically poor, it just looks like Halo 4 to me :/
The lighting is also very unpleasing to the eye and the color desaturation is pretty bad.

The Beta was beautiful and that was months ago at 720p. It'll look way better in motion. Scans never do it justice.

Cynical side; armor customization is relegated to DLC. Heard it here first,

pls no

Good point. That "yaaaaay!" still haunts my dreams. Bungie should have known what that would turn into, hopefully 343 knows better.

I bet there will be custom poses/taunts, which could be sweet.

i hate that they make video game characters look like actors i know.
i know that need reference points and there's face capturing etc.. but c'mon man.

In Summary

Story

- Solo Players accompanied by a team of 3 other Spartans from Blue Team, ability to give basic squad order ala Republic Commando.
- Drop in/Drop Out online coop
- GI played only the second mission titled ‘Blue Team’
- All Spartan abilities available in MP also present in SP
- Second Level ends with Chief
dreaming
- Your teammates can revive you, even in single player.
- You can command them to do a bunch of things such as target specific enemies, pick up specific weapons, use a turret etc.
- There will be multiple ways to complete a mission. In the example you could kill everyone, enable some turrets to help you out, go find a generator and destroy it etc.
- There will be multiple side routes so it won't be completely linear, as in you can sneak through a vent Deus Ex style and go a different route.
- Chief has to deal with the loss of
Cortana fom 4 and the 'ghost of Cortana' in 5
- Has alternate paths in campaign levels
- In coop each player is a different member of Blue Team, and players start with different loadouts, plus the final game will have different huds for each character
- Split screen not supported
- Xbox Live Gold for online co-op not needed.

MP

- Game will launch with over 20 maps (unknown how many are forge variants), their plan is to add 15 more by June 2016
- ALL DLC TO BE FREE
- Empire has been tweaked substantially since the beta
- A brand new underwater map revelead called Fathom, is symmetrical.
- BTB to be revealed at E3, or rather a ‘new epic multiplayer experience’, (please be Battlefield Halo).

Thanks Jem and Jumper (sound like 90's hip hop duo)
