My exact reaction... Split screen in halo was the oly thing remaining that differentiated the franchise fro other fps games to me.

Really, with ADS and sprint what is really Halo about this game anymore?

Well, well, well....And to think I was just starting to talk myself into getting an XB1. Halo is now dead to me.
Really? quite the statement there. I'm not saying its an overreaction but I am surprised people feel this way. This is great news imo. I cant wait to get back into halo after the abominations that were reach and 4.
Wow, who knew there were so many couch co-op players in this day and age? I'm sure it has nothing to do with people just looking for an excuse to dump on 343...
The fact you can play it co-op online and not require a Gold subscription is a pretty nice feature though.

cantitbeboth.gifYep, local coop, was what made Halo Halo...
But I thought it was
Arena shooter MP?
No ADS?
Firefight?
No sprint?
No AA?
.....
Nope, the thing that resonated with all fans was online coop....
It's a testament to this idea that this thread is newer, yet longer than the Game Informer details thread.Sometimes NeoGAF is really depressing with all of you complaining all the time.
IMO they are compensating us with all the great news about free coop online, ton of maps and free DLC, for me this is not that bad, i always play online.
Take it easy guys.
Who is this?

i'll play devil's advocate and point out that deliberately-paced ttk and map control are still hugely emphasized in Halo 5. i've got no doubt that Halo gameplay will still be much different (and still a bit more cerebral) than in other fps games, even as 343 bridges the gap a bit with features like ADS and doubling down on sprint.

But I thought split screen in Halo was sacred.
343, I'm not okay with this.
Hopefullly they can patch this in? Not sure reasoning behind this
I read the initial statement as sarcasm.the two aren't mutually exclusive, lolI'm glad they chose framerate over local splitscreen.
Map packs were free. This didn't change until 343 was introduced. Not charging for Map DLC seems like a good idea.Has 343 done ANYTHING right with Halo other than killing it?
Which one kept the computer?Halo was the glue that held my family together. With every release we would get together and play 4 player splitscreen, be it campaign or multiplayer. When my parents heard about this news, they filed for divorce. My sister ran away.
Thanks 343, you ruined my family
What?Map packs were free. This didn't change until 343 was introduced

To put time, money, and effort on features people still use.
I hope online co-op is still a thing, but it's a huge disappointment for me as I play a lot with family members locally.
Also, I saw an earlier post say that MCC had botched local co-op. What happened there?
What?
I don't think you actually know what you're talking about.
No, but right now it has a pretty good suite of local splitscreen co-op games, including Towerfall and Magicka 2. That stuff influenced the purchase of the PS4 over an X1, as I primarily play local multiplayer with others, but that's besides the point. We played Halo together, and now that gaming experience is no more.Cause the PS4 has AAA splitscreen co-op games.
Dont apply your experience to everyone else. Clearly this thread is filled with people who use that feature.
I don't want to be compensated with free stuff, that's not how you buy my endorsement. Are those things good? Yes, definitely.
For me, the limitation that split screen co-op has always had in Halo is the size of levels. You can only get so far away from your partner before beaming to them because each area has to load separately. So, by doing away with that restriction I'm hoping to see the largest scale, most open campaign we've ever had in a Halo game.
If they killed split-screen co-op then it better have been for a related reason that benefits the overall game. If the killed it because it's a feature that only 5% of the user base ever use, then they're only harming themselves and continuing to harm people's good memories of Halo. They've got the money to support the feature, there should be a good reason why it's not there.
These people are in the minority. Do you not think 343 isn't collecting data on what features are used and what aren't? It's pretty obvious splitscreen is a dying/dead feature used by the minority.

All this faux outrage over split screen and the "its what Halo is known for!".
Actually Halo became known for people bringing their OWN CONSOLE over for LAN. But whatever suits the narrative.
Even in split screen, it was more MP related than SP.
