New Devil's Third Trailer (Itagaki/WiiU, Japan - Aug 4, retail is Amazon exclusive)

Looks like it's come on a lot since last year. Graphics aside, looks very "tight". the switch to first person is much nicer than when we last saw it and the Bloodborne style dodges and melee looks improved. Vanquish slide always a winner.

Main character design is just as horrible as it was last year though :(

Day one!

Are these watermarked, or does it actually put its own name in the HUD?

I suppose all those "I'm in" people will actually get it for EU or US consoles?

I wonder how many people will play with the Japanese version of the game. This trailer really showed promise. Before I felt it wasn't really good but this time it really feels it's coming together nicely.

Because of the Amazon exclusivity, the only way for me to get it reliably will be on the eShop. Which is a problem currently with XenoX, because it takes up most of my HDD. I'll have to complete the 3.73% I have left before that I think.

I know the graphics aren't up to todays AAA standard but I'd like to see more b-tier games that try to differentiate themselves from the standard AAA releases. Unfortunately thats unlikely in this day and age where gamers expect every game to push tech as far as possible.

I agree with you but this game is pushing the b-tier idea. It really looks awful. Graphics and animation. Those cutscenes are almost ps2-like.

Graphics aside, it looks like a mindless fun kind of game, I hope there will be at least a small community playing this, because it looks really fun.

The concept behind the gameplay looks awesome and the MP looks cool too. But man do the graphics and art direction look unfinished and unbalanced in all kinds of ways. I really hope it turns out well and has a great singleplayer.

Would probably be in if I had a WiiU.

Project STEAM level of sales in Japan incoming, especially with such a stealth release, adult rating and Nintendo clearly not giving a fuck (I wonder if they'll even show it at E3). Makes me sad. At least the game is coming out, but sending it to die like this is almost Konami-levels of shit behaviour, i.e. buying Hudson just to kill off their projects.

With the shortly upcoming release date though, I will surely pick this up over forcing myself to buying Splatoon anytime soon (despite the never ending WiiU drought) - this actually seems to have a fullfledged campaign and an actual finished online mode, plus hopefully good controls, but I'm expecting at least that from Itagaki. The other 100 people playing DT in two months online gonna know what's up.

That was exactly my tought : B-tier seems quite an upgrade for this. And by the way, it doesn't seems like something that is trying to push the boundaries of the genders allowed to be AAA

Looks fine. I'm in for at least for the MP. Single player looks alright to me too. This thing has been in such a limbo that I hadn't even expected it to interest me if it ever came out but it does.

Something tells me this is going to be eShop and Gamestop exclusive in the US.
I will repost at E3 to see if I am right.

Also safe bet it is coming mid-August for US.

Graphics don't look too hot but they still look good enough for me. It's the gameplay that needs to be fun and it looks like fun and it's made by Itagaki so i will probably buy unless first impressions are really bad.

I need more over-the-top games like these. It feels different than the stuff we see today.

If the boxed version is GS exclusive, there's a good chance it'll be a retail disc and not a code, right? Gotta ensure those trade-ins.

I hope so. My fridge is kinda full

Everyone complaining about the PS2 era gfx should really set their priorities straight. There's a weekly load of high celebrated indie games with SNES era gfx. Stop caring so much about polycounts and shaders! Good games have good (art) direction.

No. It's an issue because it's a stupid comment to make that has no basis in reality and just serves to push a topic off course. People used to use the "looks like an N64 game" comment as a similar ignorant insult. The intent behind such comment is clear and it should be called out when it's used. Anyone attempting to use that comment before hitting submit should take a moment and go to youtube and look up what an actual PS2 game looks like if they honestly think a game looks like that to refresh their memory. Takes less then a minute.

Well damn. Looks shit.
The character designs are particularly bad - protagonist looks like a joke.
It doesn't help that the game looks like a visually unimpressive 360 title.
Itagaki should have just made a spiritual successor to NG instead of wasting his time with this shooter/action game hybrid nonsense.

Could have a chance at retail probably. Ace Attorney 5 was an odd case where the only retail version was in Japan.
I don't think it will be a wide retail in America. Best chance is have it be select retailers exclusive like the Majora's Mask 3DS XL.

Gamestop has had exclusive games before (Chulip and Xenoblade come to mind).

Are we going to enter bizarre universe with a game about colorful teenage squid kids painting the floor with ink guns being a far better action/MP creation than something Itagaki puts out?
Probably.
I haven't really been impressed at all by this game. Everything it has shown as been done before.

I'm not even talking about graphics in this comparison either. CS:GO is a *tad* behind the times graphically too but it has ageless gameplay.

I'm all for B tier graphics at 60fps allowing a dev to work on more content, but I feel like you at least need good art to go with it, and this game doesn't. The only thing that interests me slightly is the Vanquish slide, I'll wait for impressions and a quick price drop I think.

This game is such a big waste of money for Nintendo.

They could have funded 7 new Hotel Dusk games instead. :/
It was being worked on when the devs were under contract for THQ. I imagine it was picked up because it was cheap.
But yeah, maybe it wasn't worth saving. We'll see

I just don't understand how you can go from slick, super ninja to bald commando covered in sanskrit.
A defining feature of the Itagaki NG games was the modern reinterpretation of Ryu Hayabusa.

It doesn't look like a PS2 game.
It isn't gorgeous or technically advanced in any way, but in my opinion it's still a perfectly decent looking Wii U game.

Yeah, it looks like a b-tier PS3/360 game.

It does look smoother and improved from E3 last year. Multiplayer still looks fun.

Day1, now there's no need to force myself into buying Splatoon anymore, it's not like two more months of dust collecting does make a difference on WiiU. This looks like a fun online shooter for the system that actually comes out finished and seemingly with a fullfledged campaign too. Shit graphics (and generic main character) aside, I'm in for Ninja Gaiden x Vanquish - I'd be surprised if it doesn't at least control/play great coming from Itagaki. Too bad about the subpar graphics decreasing the already minimal sales potential even further.

Yo, this looks fun. If it controls well it could really be a blast.

This is where it needs to succeed.

I always thought the concept was really cool, i mean gun and katana's = cool

But i hope Itagaki put his touch in there with some dope gameplay mechanics, fun feelings when swinging and killing with the sword and of course, exaggerated gore.

I really hope the game is good and Itagaki is back for more games.

This looks like if someone told Suda 51 to make a game that was a cross between Anarchy Reigns and Call of Duty, but with the personality of a poopsock someone forgot under a bed for 6 years

Could just be this trailer, maybe I'm totally off base and this will be awesomebad like EDF

I can't get interested in this game because of what a scumbag Tomonobu Itagaki. I realize I should just shut peoples lives who are making the game out of my mind and just focus on the game itself but... I just can't.

It is nice to see that it has been improved since its last showing tho.

How is he a "scumbag"? I dont recall him lying about stuff or screwing anyone over. If anything, he's gone through hell with scumbag publishers. being a little brash in interviews doesnt make him a scumbag.

Is this a triple post? I swear I saw you post this in the thread already, maybe twice.

For some reason this pic gets me mega hyped for it.

It does look a bit dated and a bit silly but I've decided to keep my Wii U so this will be a perfect game to get my silly violence action on.
