Im also concerned with the precedent this sets. Will it lead to more on stage pan handling? Whats next will Nintendo get on stage and be like "Metroid Prime 4 can be yours....if the fans cough up $20 million dollars to help us ease development costs!" Its an annoying proposition. Either announce the damn game or don't announce it.

That caught me off guard for a second. I was surprised to see a kickstarter announcement for a game at an event like this. For better or worse, it's certainly working!

$100 backed.....even though I want a Physical PS4 edition...I'll settle for digital, fuck it!

Maybe they will add the option down the road and update the rewards depending on funding.....its happened before.

I came here to give my apologies. I was one of the people who was totally wrong about the possibility of getting a Shenmue III. I've got to eat my words now.

I've played the first and own the second but haven't finished it. I'm on the fence about backing this one because the original costed $70 million. I know they don't have to make their own engine here but $2 million still seems like too little.

Also, why is there no physical release on PS4??

2 million just can't be enough to do this right. Even with Dreamcast level graphics.

Sony probably said "if you can get 2 million, we'll put up the other 10. We're not printing any discs though."

The fund will probably reach closer to 5-6 million. The real budget will probably be closer to 20. UE4, smaller scope "open world" than what we're currently used to, no multi, no TV commercials, maybe 15 hours of gameplay padded by cutscenes (including scenes from 1&2).

It doesn't not and there is nothing wrong with using kickstarter this way. If this didn't get funded the game wouldn't be made if it does than great.

There has to be proof in interest and people willing to show actual interest. I don't get your take on it. I think you are wrong about it.

My brothers. The day of reckoning is near at hand. We have endured for so long but finally the Shenmue is upon us.

The non-believers have long doubted our cause. Saying we were chasing after Suzuki's ghost, but soon all of this is over. We will have to endure the hazing and Yakuza comparisons no longer!

Let us rejoice!
MY BROTHERS. THE TIME FOR YOU TO FULFIL YOUR DUTY IS AT HAND.
LET US PUT OUR WALLETS AND OUR SOULS DOWN FOR THE SAKE OF SHENMUE.

I've never played a Shenmue game, but the enormous amount of love from the fans makes me want to put $100 down and be a part of the event.

I don't think I'll have $100 to put down before it ends, though. If it comes to either this or paying my electric bill...sorry Shenmue fans!

Did Microsoft announce backwards compatibility? I completely forgot now.

Square announced something? I forgot too.

The end of times is coming. Grab yo bibles and prepare for the rapture!

I think this is a similar case of what's happening to BloodStained. If they can prove it can gather up a certain amount of money then Sony's gonna pony up the rest for them. I mean, why do you think it's not coming to the Xbox One (or even Wii U for that matter)
We've seen what happened with Street Fighter V so this is not something out of the realms of possibility.
2 Million is also a bit on the low end for a game in 2015 (except if it's a snall indie game I guess)

Can't say I like it but hey, it's better than getting nothing at all.

Well based on his post on the PS Blog, it seems like its only coming to PS4 and PC. In either case, he says if they hit stretch goals he can expand the game. Unless Sony/Sega have a multiplier on the budget for this game based on KS funding, I don't know how expansive it will be.

Also, with a KS setup don't the games take forever to get made? His current target is Dec 2017. Not really a short term target.

Huh... Sure hope they remaster 1&2 for those of us who missed out the first time. Although I do have a copy of Shenmue and a Dreamcast lying around somewhere. I just stopped playing when I found out it ended on a cliffhanger.

I don't know the full picture, but it's really weird to me that Shenmue 3 is a crowd-funded game. It just doesn't sit well. I'm glad it exists, though, long live Shenmue.

Isn't $2 million a pretty small amount for a game like Shenmue? Are we sure Suzuki's not going to take the money and flee to Cancun?

This isn't really comparable to that. Shenmue's IP holder (SEGA) isn't involved. Chances are Yu is either going to buy it, or they are just going to give it to him so they can be done with the fans they give two shits about.

Not at all. Half of Shenmue's original budget was marketing. The other half was making a game that was quite literally the best looking game on the market year when it launched and I'd argue the next few years.

Oh come on, a bunch of Sony executives are backing this up. There is less than a hundred backers and almost 1 million stacked.
