Seeing how fast this is reaching the Kickstarter goal I hope this kills the cynism and profit-centric directions on gaming nowadays. It was annoying to read any Shenmue thread asking for the third game. You would always hear: "I can't sell", "Let it go", "It's dead". and any bullshit like that. It's great to see this becoming dumb, as it always was, but was opportunist before.

I mean Iga just got 5.5Mil which was way more than he wanted. So Yu is asking 2Mil for funding this massive wanted game? Wont be surprised if its surpasses that within 24 hours.

Now stretch goals have to inclide Physical PS4 copy and HD remakes of 1+2. This must happen because Yu is about to get a truckload of cash money.

There's so much hype, instead of that $2M going to GameStop pre-orders tonight, it can go to developing the game. I'm on with that.

It will also create a lot of social media buzz as people post about backing it which can only help a franchise that is great but could use more exposure.

Shenmue 1 and 2 were really, really weird (but amazing) games. I wonder how a newer generation would handle a remaster of either of the titles. The story is still great, and there are a ton of incredible moments in either, but the actual game elements are rather quirky and are hard to really pin down a lot of the times. It makes me feel that the two games may be difficult to really appreciate (without significant changes) unless you were a gamer during the time the two were originally released.

I'm a bit disappointed see no physical PS4 option [although it could be added later]. I never played Shenmue I or II, but I've heard some great things about it [I know, I'm a horrible person]. I hope the "Cinema Shorts" are enough to catch me up on the story.

I guess I'll pledge at the $29 tier and upgrade should they introduce a physical option for the PS4.

So it seems that Sega retained the rights to the first two games themselves, at least for now, but that they sold the actual IP.

Remember what it was like when you saw Mario 64 the first time? How you can define pre-mario 64 3D gaming, and post-mario 64 3D gaming.

Shenmue was that for modern gaming. It was also the last hurrah for Yu Suzuki, Sega's Shigeru Miyamoto. Suzuki is the guy behind Space Harrier, Outrun, Afterburner, Virtua Fighter, Daytona USA, etc.

Imagine if Miyamoto suddenly stopped making games after Zelda; OOT. And imagine OOT ended on a cliffhanger. And the resolution got announced 15 years later with Miyamoto's glorious return.

Shenmue was the game that coined the phrase "QTE", they even used it in the marketing of Shenmue 1. This is a feature that has become common place in every triple AAA developed title now.

so when will HL3 will be kickstarted?

Kickstarting would mean that Valve would have to get of their collective asses and start developing it. They would probably prefer to just crowd source the development out to the Steam community instead.

A little bummed that there are no PS4 physical edition. Didn't Bloodstained add other physical editions as the KS progressed? I wonder if a PS4 physical will be added at some point. I backed at the 300$ level so I'll get a PC physical. I'll just change my pledge if a PS4 physical is added at some point.

Yeah, I'm going to finish playing Shenmue II as well. I bought a PAL copy and Gameshark and I started it but I had other things going on. Now I must return and finish it.

That English PAL release. I'm still kind of amazed I was able to pick up a used copy of it at Gamestop of all places.

It's both, Pebble Watch did this exact thing, There is nothing wrong with this use for kickstarter. I don't think this is sleazy or stupid. This is a good way to show support for a game that wouldn't be made otherwise.

The morons part seems entirely on point with how some are saying this is a bad thing.

Didn't say it's bad at all, I think it's fantastic. It's a bit of a slippery slope that I'm not thrilled about, and at the moment we're seeing quite enough of this sort of thing, but Shenmue is a special case anyhow.

What is bad is that Sony chose to announce a Kickstarter at E3.
