You haters can say what you want, but this is the King of RPGs. Will be interesting to see how they remix the combat because what was cool in the 90s (turn based, random encounters) is STALE AS FUCK in 2015+. They'll have to do more than a visual update; the combat engine itself will need an overhaul. Hopefully they're up to the task because they're meddling with precious memories now.

will probably never happen, because nobody really cares about VIII. Not on the same ridiculous levels of VII. I mean they skipped over 6 other FF's in favor of VII. LOL I could see them doing IX, because Vivi's iconic @ this point, before VIII tbh.

That "bracelet/gauntlet" thing looks too slim to actually fit a person's forearm/wrist.
Could the extent of the experimentation on Cloud be higher for the remake?
Pretty sure it's just the arm guard.

Exactly, I feel the same way. This isn't just upscaling a PS2 Final Fantasy game, you fuck this game up, the amount of people pissed at you will make the people pissed from the PC port last year look small.

I just can't see how an arm fits in there.
To me it looks like Cloud's arm end at the elbow, unless that thing's compressing the shit out of the rest of it.
Placement also seems like it'd make it painful to actually bend his arm at the elbow.
Yeah, that's a PAL problem.
Just one more reason why a remake would be so great. The character models used in that game's cutscenes were fantastic.

Also, IF Sony helped fund FF7, I find that surprising given the rumor that they are creating an RPG to compete against Final Fantasy. Either way, I am still super excited to see what else is on the cusp.

This. The idea doesn't meld with the style, but cutting some of this stuff would kill a lot of the charm. The dates could be hilarious!
Fat flying chocobos make me believe they'd be willing to go there. I hope they don't get too wrapped up in making badass visuals, make it look decent and get it out the door!

Bravely Default shows that there is definitely an audience for turn-based combat. Don't make it into some weird paradigm shift shenanigans or action. Keep the full party control ATB turn-based, make it a lot more balanced and challenging, add new materia and thus commands, more customization (like being able to set random encounter rate ala BD), and people will be happy.
Lol okay then. VIII's one of the best selling Final fantasies.
It's neat seeing everyone talk about what their favorite moments will be like in the new remake. And how each person's favorite moments are different. It really shows you how Final Fantasy VII had so many defining moments that make it a memorable game.
I can't wait to see a lot of different things and how they are remade. The abandoned mansion; Midgar itself ( I always liked the city and wished there was more to do); the world map (I'm really curious as to how they are going to make this) and many others. I really do hope they keep the humor as well, as it helped lift the mood and created a nice contrast with the sadness and melancholy (like another poster commented about earlier).

Man, to all those who said no one wanted a FFVII Remake, let this be proof just how wrong you were. This thing has EXPLODED. EVERYONE I know is talking about it. The reactions to the reveal are absolutely amazing.
I just hope they keep the same turn based battle system. All I want is upgraded graphics and a better translation. People loved the game for what it was. Don't go making stupid changes that drastically change the game from what it was.
On another note, I wonder if this announcement will cause people in Japan to pick up the PS4 and finally upgrade?

Oh man this is so amazing. I was literally smiling at my job after hearing this while having a shitty day. I can not wait to see some actual gameplay.
I can tell you right now my hype will die if they try to turn this into some Action rpg in the vein of kingdom hearts or some jazz. That's something I definetly do not want.
I'd rather have the old battle system with some teaks, and no the battle system was not slow unless you are one of those people who kept default setting and used wait.
Now FF9 that had a really slow atb no matter what setting you did. Dunno how anyone could play that one on default.

whoops. misread it. I did think that was just his wrist armor or whatever, but ya know what... slowing it down, it looks like his left hand does have some shit on it, that his right hand appears not to. I have no idea, but I'm definitely intrigued. good lookin out
edit: it looked like his left hand was just cut off completely by the bottom of the screen, but there's a couple of frames where his arm swings upward and you totally should be able to see a hand, if there was a hand there.... I ain't seeing a hand.
