Batman: Arkham Knight - Review Thread

Mine shipped yesterday afternoon but has not arrived today so far, so looks like Monday now, no matter though, got lots to do on Witcher 3 until it arrives.

Witcher was obviously lead platform on the pc lol

But the Arkham games have always had legit pc ports, I see no reason why this would be different

Arkham City had it's share of issues on PC.

There was a pretty wide spread .exe error with the first game too that was never resolved for many.

If you live near Edmonton in Enfield (London) then a local shop is apparently stocking it according to a poster outside of it's shop.

My online order has not yet been dispatched. It'll probably be Tuesday for me.

I can't find any information on steam preload aside from a few people saying it's not happening. Was there any official word? I know the PC review build was delayed, I assume that means no preload...

It happened with Arkham Asylum, Tomb Raider Underworld, Dragon Age, Assassin's Creed... You could say it mostly happens with early mag reviews and not website based reviews but it happens. A quick Google search will do wonders... . But like the 5 star free Hawaii preview and review events, I am not seeing it going away soon. I am not implying its the Arkham Knight's case though.

The latest game in your list came out in 2009, six years ago....

OP, feel free to add this review. It's a new publication, just beginning to gain a bit of steam. GAF exclusive too.

9/10

Edit:

Also, please remember to check out my previous GAF exclusive reviews of great titles like The Order: 1886.

All these years I've been begging for the freaking Batmobile and these reviews are making it seem like its a chore to drive.

It's really not. The biggest hurdle I had was getting use to square to reverse. Other than that the controls are really tight. Reviewers generally aren't that great at games anyway.

It mainly sounds like the tank mode and some of the forced sequences. But even Kevin VanOrd said that it actually handled great. I think I will enjoy it for the most part, minus some of the forced sequences. I may not even mind those, personally. I will just have to wait and see.

Feeling a little more nervous now. I played the games originally on 360 and PS3 before replaying on PC, so I guess they were all fixed by that point.

Of course I'd buy The Witcher on PS4 instead of PC and this on PC instead of PS4.

Hoping for the best!

I expect to see that review on the cover of the goty edition.
I do too.

I'm sure WB will do the right thing. I've sold hundreds of thousands of Xbox Ones with my words; it'll only benefit them by putting my seal of approval on there for everyone to see.

It was. By Arkham City.
Hah! No.

Serious answer, it kinda depends on what kind of games you like. AC is completely different than AA in design, AA was all about small(ish) scale metroidvania gameplay, while AC was made with the 'bigger and better' mentality and focussed on open world stuff.

I vastly prefer Arkham Asylum's approach, but I can understand why people would prefer City.

Interesting, seems like Sony may put something in place to stop broadcast streams of games before the official release date. Hit the broadcast button while playing and you get told 'you cannot use the selected feature with this application'.

Publishers can block the share function if they want to. I'm guessing it will require a day one patch to activate it.

Man, I am having a BLAST with this.

This is the first game to unequivocally deliver a 'next gen' feel from PS4, even more than Bloodborne or The Order imo.

Oh, and people who are saying the Batmobile stuff is shit are totally wrong.

I vastly prefer City's improved combat, stealth, and environment traversal/navigation. And so does Metacritic (96 vs Asylum's 92). It doesn't reflect badly on Asylum, as it's a freaking excellent game in its own right (and one that I've 100%d more times than I can count by now...)

But, this is a thread about Arkham Knight's review scores, so I don't want to derail it with the good ol' "Asylum vs City" argument. I'm already excited, regardless of review scores, this being a new Arkham game by Rocksteady.

Glad to hear it.

This is me as well. I'm not an Open World> Everything guy in the slightest. I do enjoy AC's open world but just the core mechanical improvements are enough to put it above Asylum.

Good to hear. Come back and let us know if you still feel that way about the batmobile when you're deep into the story.

This is another thing that made me happy. AK is another big jump in the mechanics. Similar to the jump between AA to AC. Really glad that it doesn't just feel like an expansion like AO was after City.

Amazon (UK) haven't even charged me for this yet, usually I'll be charged a day or so before it ships, so it could be a case of The Witcher 3 all over again..dispatching it two days after it releases. Fucking 'First Class' delivery.

I've heard that 'metroidvania' term thrown around for Asylum here a couple of times, but could someone actually explain it to me? I've played through the game numerous times and it's always felt like a linear affair (not that that's a bad thing). You get new gadgets and upgrades yes, but you're always heading towards where the story is pointing you to, not where you feel like. If it's just the dark tense atmosphere then I totally get it, but on the gameplay side of things I just don't see how Asylum is 'metroidvania'.

Basically looks like you'll enjoy the game if you enjoyed the other Arkham games, it has the best combat/detective/stealth but is marred by forced Batmobile sequences, that are not terrible but they're not as entertaining as the other combat systems. Can't wait.

Wonder if there's any more comments on the redhood dlc.

Either people are bitching about the Batmobile, bitching about Gamespot, bitching about the lack of pre-loads or are making me indescribably, insanely jealous by showing off their early copies while I have to wait until Monday evening.

Well, see you in the OT GAF, I'm out.

Well, they're not wrong if they think it's shit, opinions and all.

What people need to remember (and this is incredibly trite so I don't know why it even needs to be said) but "opinions differ".

Even if the consensus is "x isn't fun", there will always be people who love x.

Wait till you play, the Batmobile may very well be your The order.
