Batman AK PC Perf Thread of DARKNESS, NO SETTINGS [30fps cap / intro removal in OP]

Probably post processing AA. They ditched MSAA for some reason here (probably deferred rendering, the usual suspect).

Their version of unreal did at on point support deffered MSAA, but as usual, it was a pretty terrible implementation.

Dedicated physX cards that are significantly slower than the main GPU have been known to hold back performance. Or so I heard googling around.
I've heard that using dedicated physx cards actually hurt performance these days from one of the threads on GAF.

Forcing physx to be handled on the Titan X (not dedicated, obviously) improved the results somewhat, to min 51, max 100 and avg 72. So yeah, dedicated physx on the weaker card was not a good idea in my case.

So just had the game crap out on my. Run the PC performance test and everything was going swimmingly then all of a sudden about 2/3 minutes into the test the game just crashed and spat out a whole load of binaries errors.

Checked the integrity of the install and what do you know, I'm downloading 33GB again...

Wanted to put this new 980Ti through its paces :(

Damn, son. Has this ever happened before?

Wonder if it is crossing that 3.5gb vram mark on 670. Try it with the textures on low.

.

I think it might be the smoke from the batmobile tires skidding. It tanked right as that thing came into play. Im trying to mess with it right now. Turning some NVidia stuff off. Unfortunately you have to restart every time for anything to take affect

1080p
3770k at 4.5ghz
16GB Ram
780ti (Newest Batman drivers)

All settings maxed and all gameworks on

In game pc performance test (Had to rerun, realized vsync was on the first time)
Min: 29fps
Max: 67fps
Average: 46fps

Same test with all Gameworks stuff turned OFF.

Min: 59fps
Max: 101fps
Average: 75fps

All Gameworks off except for Interactive Smoke/Fog

Min: 34fps
Avg: 90fps
Average: 56fps

All Gameworks off except for Paper Debris

Min: 44fps
Max: 87fps
Average: 61fps

All Gameworks off except for Enhanced Rain

Min: 60fps
Max: 104fps
Average: 76fps

All Gameworks off except for Enhanced Light Shafts

Min: 55fps
Max: 101fps
Average: 71fps

So yeah paper debris and smoke/fog seem to be the heavy hitters. Also the highest choice I have for textures is "Normal" is it the same for everyone or is because I have a 3GB card?

FlyVPN disconnected during packing...and now when I restart steam, the "play" option is gone, only "pre-load" is available, despite being connected to a EU VPN.

Any ideas or similar problems?

EDIT: Nevermind, waiting for the trail password rollover and re-doing everything fresh seems to have fixed it.

Summary thus far, ignoring the crazy 50% OC 970.

  • There is a line of whitespace between different user's benchmarks.
  • Users have not all indicated whether V-sync was enabled or disabled, which may impact average framerate scores
  • The reptilian space pope may possibly be sabotaging Kepler scores, hide your children

(min - avg)

780ti, 3770k, all gameworks enabled: 29 - 39
780ti, 3770k, no gameworks: 59 - 75

970, 3750k, stock, no gameworks: 51-76

970, 4670k, stock, all gameworks enabled: 34-52

(AMD cards cannot use two out of four effects)
r9 290, 4790k, small OC, limited gameworks: 52-77
r9 290, 4790k, small OC, no gameworks: 56-83

Nvidia Fog and Smoke effects seem to be the most expensive gameworks feature, but are disabled on AMD cards.

Damn, son. Has this ever happened before?

Nope, not for any other games since I bought the card.

I'm assuming the download corrupted somewhere along the way. Said I was missing about 3500 files - so I'm really not sure what took it so long to preload! Haha.

Who knows. It could be my processor holding me back at this point, but I certainly hope that is not the case.

It'll be okay, I'm just bummed that I didn't get to play it tonight and that I effectively wasted most of the evening for this to download. That'll teach me I guess.

alright...interactive smoke/fog is a killer of the 970, at least for me, when the batmobile is in play(which sounds like most of the game). Tanked my game to single digits. Turned it off and it seems fine for now

I'm worried my PC might be a little behind: i7 920 @ 3.2ghz / 12GB / EVGA GTX 670 FTW edition (2GB) / Win 7.

Changing the Max_FPS value fixed the framerate, so that's nice.

I did a short benchmark while flying over to Gordon. Some minor stuttering and not a lot of Nvidia effects on the screen, but this was the result. Everything maxed at 1080p. 970 and i7 4770K.

Going to do another one while driving, since that seems to be very demanding when shit is happening.

Thank you. Looks like there's actually quite a few settings to fiddle around with, they just didn't want to overwhelm people in the options menu I suppose. Curious if you can get different AA solutions based on the number of it is just a boolean flag.

More options available in-game menus is always better, especially if options come with decent tooltips describing their functions. Limiting options to 4-5 toggles with basically "On / Off" and "Low / Medium / High" doesn't allow much customization. A lots of people want balance performance and IQ to their liking and lackluster menus don't allow it.

Graphics options in this game are very sad sight and for proper tweaking you need go to .ini level.

I have the feeling this is a 1:1 cconversion from console minus all the NVIDIA stuff, and why there's no hbao+? Imho is the way to go for all the pc games.

This is really cool. Thanks for doing this. Interesting to look. Just waiting for more numbers to come in. God waiting for this to unlock sucks.

Installing new GeForce driver now... results with gameworks on "out of the box" with a 970/i52500k were pretty bad. It would run at ~30fps which is fine but then stutter so bad the sound would cut out for a couple of seconds.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't cutscenes in Witcher 3 and this Batman rendered in real time and not pre-canned prerenders? If cutscenes were prerendered you wouldn't see your current gear in them, if it was different than what developer intended during prerender.

I'm not referring to all cinematics, but the prerrendered movies. Witcher 3, for instance, is prerendered in nearly all action heavy moments (usually around the beginning and endings of major story moments), the load screens, etc. Most games have a mix of prerendered and in engine movies these days, and the prerendered stuff should be perfect when it isn't lately.

It was also a big issue with Alien Isolation.

So many intro movies. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before someone figures how to remove them if they haven't already.

Runs like crap on an i7 2600k and a GTX 970 with the old drivers.

Currently installing the new ones to see if it makes any difference.

The top two gameworks options were greyed out too. Maybe they're tied to the latest drivers?

For people with the 30FPS issue. Go to the installation folder Batman Arkham Knight\BmGame\ Config\BmSystemSettings.ini and look in the file for "Max_FPS=30" change it to what you want. :)
Thanks i was about to lose my fucking mind because i couldn't figure it out. I turned off v-sync everywhere and even ran the tuner to "force" 60fps and it just stayed there at 30.

Yeesh. If smoke stops me from getting to 60 on average I'm def turning it off. Seems like every time there is a special feature in games, they always take a substantial hit on fps.
