Batman AK PC Perf Thread of DARKNESS, NO SETTINGS [30fps cap / intro removal in OP]

MUnited83

For you.
How are they not at fault for the state of their own game?

Really? Handing the port to some external team allowing the game to be released on PC with THEIR NAME IN THE OPENING SCREEN and Credits , sure , they are not at fault. /s
You guys know that the publisher is the One that makes the decisions on who do the ports, how much budget for it is available and how much time they can have to port it, right? Rocksteady has nothing to do it with.

Do we really need to go over this again? The publisher ultimately decides who does which port job and when something gets pushed out on the market. I am sure Rocksteady would have loved to do the PC version themselves but were stretched too thin.

I get you are angry, but this is not how it works. Rocksteady is "only" the developer. WB gives money, WB makes decisions.

So who was IG reporting their updates/milestones to for approval then? Someone at WB or someone at Rocksteady?

RRRIIIIIGGGGHHHTTT.

Dude if they wanted to fix the game they would have. As much of an ABYSMAL State LA Noire's PC Port was , the game was in such a bad state overall they flew guys from Rockstar to fix the game. This port needs that kind of attention.

I have to play on everything low or off to get just about 20 FPS. Game plays but at the bare minimum. Expected better from my laptop/card, though it appears its probably more the game than my gear.

Well, not much I can say other than wait and see for the patch sadly really. As you've most likely seen, people with top spec desktop GPUs are having trouble, some even booting the game, so it could mean better for your card too anyway.
Also if that isn't enough, DX12 is coming with Windows 10 if you're getting that, which if Batman supports it (I think it is..?), should mean even more juice is being squeezed out of your card than usual. I remember reading about DX12 using integrated GPU for smaller stuff too, so lessening the load of the dedicated GPU, but again not sure if this is a universal thing or it will vary game by game.

Who tells you this approval actually mattered in the decision to release the game?

This is laughable.

Anyway, I see there is too much salt in this thread now, so I'll go back to enjoying the game.

We’re currently working on improving streaming performance from mechanical hard drives (HDD). Addressing this is one of our top short-term priorities.

For users that have an SSD available, we’ve noted increased streaming performance when the game is installed to that type of drive.
How is this even possible? Why does the PC need an SSD when streaming works fine on the consoles with their 5400rpm HDDs?

It gives you an idea though. First time uploading 4k videos so I did this for ease of use. I have a longer gameplay video I'll be uploading later.

I hope you can still get your refund after benchmarking unless you got it for free.

Enjoy the Inferior Console Port , OMG I am so jealous. /s

Power of the Console Cloud/Mark Cerny. Who the fuck knows , probably just a really bad port with 0 effort.

Mordor was great.
Mordor was good on PC at launch but not great. It ran fine but was missing all post-processing effects (such as motion blur). Of course, knowing how much people tend to complain about those effects (insanity) perhaps that wasn't an issue.

Stuttering has always been an issue with UE3 on the PC when attempting to load assets. You could see it right from the beginning with the Gears of War port back in 2007. Move through a tunnel into a new area and you'd get stuttering on the PC that wasn't there on Xbox 360. Arkham City was horrible for this issue due to the attempt at an open world. Arkham Knight, however, pushes things much further to the point where it's kind of doing things UE3 wasn't really designed to do. A different engine could have handled this better, I think, since UE3 has always been awful on the PC for data streaming.

Shame they didn't go with UE4 for this game.

People are saying Unity launched better than this. Not sure if true.

Did they ever actually add in the per-object blur to mordor?

So is there no way to at least force ambient occlusion in with nvidia inspector?

Mortal Kombat X compatibility bit forces in some ambient occlusion at a high cost in performance and with serious flickering of the AO and other assets as a side effect. Is not a net positive at all imo.

Warning: Not a solution to AO issue. Flickery mess.

That is some AO on the wall (first image), right? Unfortunately a flickery mess, with the effect activating and deactivating frequently when you move around. I used the Mortal Kombat X AO compatibility bit, quality AO, and AO enabled in nvidia inspector. AO did not seem to stick good on the woman behind the counter (second image), although she has a faint shadow on her throat that may be traces of AO?

Oh yea for whatever reason I can only play it in a window. If I go full screen it freaks out and the screen blinks untilI reset.

You know, that's a good question. I haven't actually gone back to check. I played it over the course of a month or so back around launch and it was never fixed. I'm hoping it's fixed now but who knows. Was a weird omission since console versions used it AND it was an option in the options menu - it just didn't work.

Yes, Unity was much better than this at launch. The initial PC version of Unity, out of the box, could at least run at a stable 30fps on my system with no hitching. There were bugs but it was very playable. After all of the updates I was able to double that frame-rate (with some dips here and there) on the same hardware.

The ways in which Arkham Knight is broken on PC varies heavily from Unity.

Wow that's disappointing. Was hoping we could at least get that visual effect but nope lol.

Shits crazy still no "hey expect a patch soon!" Or we are working on a patch?

They said they are working on it. As the only way to fix is to issue a patch items safe to assume that will be how it's done.

The game only just launched. They're bound to the physical world too.

I'm looking forward to taking advantage of GMG's refund offer!

In related news, I have a PS4 but there's no way I'm buying that version. Fix the port pls.

That reminds me. Both the PS4 and PC versions of MGS: GZ has object motionblur, but the shutter speed fo rit was ridiculously low. It was basically invisible. Likewise it did not scale with framerate.

I seriously hope they fix that with the MGS V

Part of me wonders if they anticipated the backlash or they were just ignorant , came into the office on Launch day , read the Steam reviews and are puzzled why the game doesn't run well.

Its going to take a week , and that is being EXTREMELY Generous.

They did fix it, thankfully.

The current version of Phantom Pain shown at E3 on PS4 (and I'm sure on PC) featured an increased shutter speed making it much more evident. Curiously, this was already true with GZ on Xbox One. Not sure why. Was clearly just a settings issue.

Anybody having issues with the textures? They're ugly as heck!

I did a verify integrity check just in case and now my game is redownloading all over again...

I had this issue until I set my FPS limit back to 30. Seems that unlocking the FPS caused a ton of texture streaming issues for me.

You can refund on GMG?

And yeah, the game runs perfectly fine for me (outside the batmobile) with a 30 FPS lock, but fuck that.

i5 2500k and 970 here, it's kind of ok at 30fps but the lack of AO and poor textures are bugging me.

I can't have a refund but I got both the game and the season pass for something like 30€ so I think i'll just wait for patches.

What are people hoping will be in these patches (that we don't even know are coming)? Theres a zero percent chance they'll patch in 60fps and the missing textures.

I hope the texture streaming bug is prioritized. During gameplay it's the thing that sticks out the most to me out of all the things that are busted.

I wonder if their Umbra implementation is broken somehow.

Yeah, and likely the source of the stutter as well. That should be priority #1, followed by optimization of the batmobile sequences, and restoring the higher quality effects like AO and rain shaders.
