Man, such a loss. Fucking cancer... :(
He had the same cancer as my mother, I knew it was very agressive but I was hoping that he found it early.

I've been crying since hearing the news, so I need a bit of an outlet to write this I suppose.

A few years ago a few thought I was kinda crazy because I got super frustrated I wasn't able to meet Mr. Iwata. During E3, I'd just show up too late here or there, always missing the window of opportunity to meet him. I really wanted to meet him because of everything he helped accomplish with Nintendo and I just wanted to say thanks. Call it something akin to meeting an idol or something, I don't know.

Anyway... my husband was lucky enough to work with him when he was in the RWC office and always had the nicest things to say about him. Well, whenever he was in the office, I'd have him take my 3DS to work to get Mr. Iwata's Mii and StreetPass. For SOME reason, he had all the rare puzzle pieces, who'da thunk it! One time when he was in town, I decided to write a private message to him, just for fun. I never thought he'd ever take the time to write something back.

Well, shockingly he did! I'm still stunned he took the time to do so because unlike E3, this is a company/work environment and I imagine he was fairly busy at a CEO.

Now he's passed on and I don't even have the right words. RIP Mr. Iwata, I really did like the banana joke.
Oh man ;~;
Props to Iwata for taking the time to do that.

Here is a scaled down version for avatars, with a white glow to detach it from the background. And the original. It's quick and dirty.

Thanks for making this ribbon, ElTorro.

Still very upset about this news. I've been sitting here for like an hour now, completely unable to go back to playing a game.

RIP Mr. Iwata. :(

Damn, for a sec from my twitter feed I thought he had just left the company (I knew he was pretty sick and all)

Then I saw the title of this thread and was shocked.

Very sad loss. Rest in peace.

Holy cow this thread has gotten so sad :( All the gifs, I can't.

Who cares about his status as Nintendo's CEO, this man was such an awesome, overly-positive, adorable dreamer who made our lives a bit brighter.

This has been a really tough year for me. I've lost my Mother, 2 uncles, my 4 year old cousin and my dog, and now this. I seriously hope the rest of the year is positive.

RIP

Maybe out of this tradegy something good will come out of it. Everyone here can agree that Nintendo was languishing and had been directionless as company since the failure of the WiiU. Maybe some new people at the top will take Nintendo to new heights.

My second post in this thread. I still can't process this. A few people PM'd me. I tried to think aloud and clear my head.

The man exuded gentleness and a genuine desire to make people happy. All people. You feel that spirit, that love in every game he worked on, directly or indirectly. "Iwata laughs" became a meme. In truth it was the laugh of someone who values kind, innocent fun.

I think that's why he connected with us all. There's no judgment in Nintendo games. Just a warm, inviting sense of unconditional love.

Still can't believe he's gone. But in so many ways, he's not.

RIP. He never looked to have recovered much after his hospitalization when I watched the Directs, but I at least hoped his health was stable. What a huge loss for the gaming industry. :(

Iwata was steadfast that he would never institute layoffs. A lot of people in the business world criticized him for this, saying that sometimes you have to do it and have no choice. Iwata would always say that's not how it works in art - if people fear for their jobs, they won't make the best art they can make.

I always figured he thought that way because he's been on the other end, he knows what it's like to make video games for a living. He doesn't view developers as expendable, he doesn't want them to leave, he wanted them to make great games and be happy doing it.

Whatever you think of the results, we're probably never going to get a major gaming CEO like that again. I think Iwata is one of the few CEOs that would call anyone who developed games a friend.

I won't have time tonight to read through everyone's posts, but these 2 are beautiful. (No surprise from you, ShockingAlberto.) What a sad reason for me to return to NeoGAF. *tears up*
