I didn't even know he was that bad off. When they said he was "sick" i thought it was just like under the weather or whatever for him to miss these gaming events.. Jesus christ, RIP to a great man. He steered the ship for a long time.

Anyway... my husband was lucky enough to work with him when he was in the RWC office and always had the nicest things to say about him. Well, whenever he was in the office, I'd have him take my 3DS to work to get Mr. Iwata's Mii and StreetPass. For SOME reason, he had all the rare puzzle pieces, who'da thunk it! One time when he was in town, I decided to write a private message to him, just for fun. I never thought he'd ever take the time to write something back.

Well, shockingly he did! I'm still stunned he took the time to do so because unlike E3, this is a company/work environment and I imagine he was fairly busy at a CEO.

Now he's passed on and I don't even have the right words. RIP Mr. Iwata, I really did like the banana joke.

In a game industry that has a primary focus on profits and marketing, he was one of the rare few who just wanted to make fun games that people would enjoy.

He had surgery last year on the growth, which is why he missed E3 2014.

Apparently it must have grown back.

Genuinely upsetting news. The man carried Nintendo on his back for decades. The company will never be the same without him.

I didn't even know he had health problems.

When i saw the thread title i checked the calendar hoping it's April's first and that i completely lost the sense of time.

He was too young :(

It means little now that he's gone, but I'm glad Nintendo was starting to post profits again and shareholder opinion was turning around. At least he got to see the fruits of his work before he passed.
