I've been holding it together pretty well, but man, this one's a real gut punch. It was clear the man had a saintly kindness and genuinity about him that's one in a million in the kind of position he occupied. For god's sake, he won over Yamauchi's steely heart.

I don't fear that Nintendo can find someone that can run their business more effectively than Iwata did, but they damn sure will never find a better human being to represent it.
I'm glad it's raining in London today as I am tearing up here

I tell myself,

"I hope he's having the time of his next life on World 2-1"

...I still can't stop tearing up. ;___;

So sad and too soon.

Fuck playing Gears. I'm spending my whole day playing my Wii U in respect to him.

We all know he found the Warp Zone.

Taken absolutely too too early. What a wonderful man! Rest in Peace, Iwata-San.

I'm not sure what else to say, still very much shocked to wake up to this awful news.

So sad. He was such a good human being, despite the controversy his actions might have caused. I hoped he was getting better after the surgery.... :(

I think, in the internet age, it's not all that weird.

You see someone enough, you read their words, think about their thought processes and plans

It sounds silly, and more than a little dorky, but I think a one-way attachment is totally reasonable.

Yeah, I think his death feels more personal because of how close we were to him thanks to all the projects he was involved in like Directs, Conferences, Iwata asks and stuff like that.
The guy was really out there, literally the "face of the company"
To that, add the fact he had a silly/dorky/not so serious side that all of us could relate to.

I can't figure out why this hitting me so hard. It is making me realize how much I absolutely love Nintendo despite all its missteps. They made me happy for so many years of my life. I can't imagine a world without them and I don't know what is going to happen. Just looking at what Iwata represented. Forget video games--An absolute gentlemen. He was one of the kindest and humble people in the world, but he had a philosophy: Video games are meant to be just one thing. Fun. Fun for everyone! "- Satoru Iwata. Fun that's what Nintendo is about.

What's wrong with fun? Why do we want games to be more realistic? This is as real as you could get. What is fun about dying? What is fun about cancer? Nothing at all. This sucks. I feel people in this industry unfairly bashed his ideology just so that Nintendo could be like everyone else. Nintendo wasn't making games to make money, Nintendo made games that were fun.

You don't just die from cancer suddenly. Dude apologized for the poor E3 showing, probably knowing he was going to die soon. Who would do that?

This is so unfair. We were so unfair. Thinking back, I think both Nintendo and Iwata knew this day was coming. It's probably why they created those digital conferences the last 2 years. Even as he was dying, the Nintendo spirit still was in him. He was still having fun. He still smiled and laughed all the way through it. Death is not fun. Cancer is not fun. Killing people is not fun. Nintendo is fun. And now a big part of is gone forever. RIP, Iwata. See you in Nintendo Land.

It's hard to see with the black on black so I tried to lighten this one up a bit. Someone else might be able to add a border around it to make it easier to see.

Thank you so much!

Been listening to various Kirby soundtracks for the past half hour, I'm so happy Iwata had such a strong role in the series creation :').

So many games in the Kirby series were part of my childhood.

I remember playing Nightmare in Dreamland on my GBA when I was little (my first Kirby game) and loved it :D! The game was so colorful, I loved the power-up system and the characters really appealed to me (always loved Kirby's design). I also remember playing Kirby's Amazing Mirror....but that sadly got stolen from me alongside my DS with a 100% file of Mario 64 DS (and I just got the thing too X().

But, when my grandmother got me another DS to replace that one, a few months latter I got Canvas Curse and....wow, I fell in love with that game :'). I love the touch-screen controls and how they were so smartly infused with the core Kirby gameplay. The visuals and music were amazing as well; still remember the final boss them to this day :D. The game also had a ton of content and the unlockable characters was a cool inclusion.

I also remember playing through Super Star on my Wii and enjoying that :). To finally play the Kirby game many consider the strongest in the series was a treat :D.

The most recent Kirby game I played was the 3DS game, Triple Deluxe and man, did I have fun with that :D! I got it after Smash Bros. and KH3D when I got my 2DS last fall and I loved the game. A fantastic soundtrack, very solid controls, the gameplay being lifted right out of Return to Dreamland and the Hyper-Nova feature being a smart addition lead it into being one the most fun 3DS games I played and a personal favorite compared to Smash and KH3D.

And to think, none of that would have happened if Iwata and Hal-Lab's never made the iconic pink puff ball :'). Nintendo icon and it was a honor playing through the series throughout my life :).

RIP Satoru Iwata.

Always found him to be genuinely likeable even though I didn't fully agree with the direction he was taking Nintendo.

Very sad to hear this. He seemed like the most fun-loving CEO you could imagine. A developer at heart but with enough corporate edge to steer a company.

RIP Iwata

My condolesence to his family and to the whole Nintendo organization.

The industry lost a great leader and someone who actually had the guts to do it "his" way and not follow the others.

RIP Satoru Iwata

This.

GAF I'm so sad... I was touched by Michael Jackson and Steve Jobs death, but I wasn't really involved emotionally. In Iwatas case I'm now sitting at work and I'm trying not to cry. It really feels like someone really close passed away and I guess somehow it's just like that. Thanks GAF, I love you. It feels good to be surrounded by so much people feeling the same.
