Was sad when I saw the news yesterday but now I'm legitimately tearing up after reading the collected items in the OP and that story about him on the plane. RIP, Mr. Iwata.

His health really dropped big time just by looking at this pic. I believe he looks much better in April 1 Nintendo Direct. But still never looked like he's going to pass away this soon given that he's still pretty much active just recently. Just shows that death can just barge in without knocking at the door.

He definitely wasn't doing well at the end. :(

Any statement from Nintendo or NoA beyond the "we won't tweet" tweet? I'd love if they held some kind of vigil at the Nintendo World Store or had some kind of video message for the fans.

He may of been very ill and lost weight but he never lost his dignity.

asked in another thread but I wanted to play either Pokemon Gold/Silver or Heart Gold/Soul Silver

any recommendations as to which would be appreciated. it's a generation of Pokemon that I skipped so I know little about them.

Go with the more modern ones. They're very faithful and did an absolutely excellent job at bringing the games to a newer audience. After that, go back and play Crystal anyway just so you can appreciate Iwata's skills.

Woke up to this news this morning, at first I thought it was a joke and didn't want to believe it but then I went on GAF and saw this thread :(

Really sad news that hit me hard. Thank you for being a great CEO, getting Nintendo through good and bad times and caring about making fun games and allowing me to enjoy Nintendo software for years as I always remember them by, being fun.

RIP Iwata, you will be missed by the gaming community far and wide.

Still shocked and very, very sad. Too young, specially for a man withe the potential, talent and ambition to do so much more. He will be missed but we will remember him through their games and works.

Allow me to recover a quote from Terry Pratchett, another man who left way too soon;

In the Ramtops village where they dance the real Morris dance, for example, they believe that no-one is finally dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away – until the clock he wound up winds down, until the wine she made has finished its ferment, until the crop they planted is harvested. The span of someone’s life, they say, is only the core of their actual existence.

Thanks for everything Iwata, you will be remembered.

Played 3D World late into the night and listened to Galaxy on the way to work. He left an indelible mark on Nintendo, perhaps some of their very best years. Going to rewatch some of my old E3 press conference DVDs tonight.

"Even if we come from different sides of the world"
"Speak Different Languages"
"Eat too many chips or riceballs"
"Even if we have different tastes in games"
"Everyone of us here today is identical In the most important way"
"Each one of use has the heart of a gamer"

Thanks for posting the video. This quote really is something else. Not many CEOs would do the things he did, or say the things he said, and you can tell he really meant it.

Please no more Steve Jobs post-mortem super-hype, the black ribbons and the multiple threads are enough here. He's no martyre nor Christ even if it's dreadful to die at this age. Don't make his death a disproportionate event.

I hope this outpouring of respect, enthusiasm and love rides out across the industry like a shock-wave.

If you're in this video game industry - as an artist, developer, an ideas person, creator, publisher, or marketer - if you're a veteran or luminary - this is how you should strive to be remembered.

Make others happy, make people laugh, make people have fun, and touch the lives of your audience. Be humble in dark days and cheerful in every other. Paint a smile on every face and people will cry for you.

I think a small video tribute or something from them would be nice, but I think the respect level is incredibly high with simply "Look, we're silent today in remembrance"

Let the fans do the tributes -- which they have in droves.

Wake up... still sad.

I thought I was taking this hard, but my friends in Japan were so utterly heart broken when I talked with them last night.

I still can't believe it! I was out last night when I received a notification from twitter from Playstation saying Thank you to Iwata. I was wondering what was going on. When I got home, I saw the news here on GAF. It hit really hard. He was a genius! He really led Nintendo the right way. He will be truly missed.

I'm still feeling super down about this... I'm thinking of playing Pokemon Stadium 2 this week (he wrote the battle system for Pokemon Stadium 1 and I already beat it awhile ago so that's why 2 and not 1) to relive some of my childhood and in his memory. :(

I'd just like to take this opportunity to say that Mr. Iwata was and remains forever responsible for adding much happiness to my life and this entire world and for this I thank you. You will be sorely missed.
