Trying not to remember the man fighting cancer but rather the fun person that Iwata always was, it's rare for a president of a company to be so down to earth that they talk to their customers directly and was capable of been silly sometimes. Nintendo directs will never quite be the same again without him, been a bit of a weird day as i never really knew him but i have found myself tearing up at times today.

My last memory of him will forever be the silly puppert form of Iwata, although not there in person at E3 he was there in voice form to give his puppet life.

He's not truly gone though, each time you hold a control pad he's kind of there. His legacy will continue, tonight is balloon fight in celebration of him.

I always post on Nintendo-related news stuff how cool it would be if such-and-such thing was added to Smash Bros., but if any of my requests actually happen, I hope it's that they'll add Balloon Fighter as DLC in the future as a tribute. I always think of Iwata when I see that character, especially after watching him play it in that video.

It's crazy that, despite being the president for only 12 years, Iwata was the face of Nintendo for me. When I hear Nintendo, I immediately think about his enthusiasm and his kindness for his fans.

Iwata just screamed "Nintendo".

Man, I've been so busy at work and every time I get a chance to visit Neogaf I'm reminded of this...and each time I feel like I lost a family member ;(

Also the tribute art has been off the charts incredible yet extremely emotional at the same time.

RIP IWATA YOU WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED!

I'm on vacation so just saw this! Truly saddening news :-(

There will never be a replacement for him. Whoever is the new CEO has some giant plumber shoes to fit into.

Are there any good podcasts talking about Iwata, his accomplishments, where the company goes from here? I listened to his '05 GDC speech which was lovely. At work, trying to work can't read but would really like to hear people talk about his impact.

This is a sad, sad day for Nintendo and the world of gaming.

Those fan art pictures of mario, luigi, kirby etc. crying. Man.. That just put tears in my eyes.

Same feel smh. Every opportunity I got I come back to thread...get reminded of the somberness...but its like a group hug at the same time. We all suffered a gut punch...we all felt this. In this moment we bond over games like 90s couch multiplayer. Side by side we can relate to each others sentiments...kinda glad I don't know gaffers in public or else all it would take the similar sullen look I'm portraying to make me wail man...i wanna sob so bad...been holding it tight all day...but the random tears keep coming. Legit just wanna buy a n64 and just chill for the next week...

I think a free DLC Iwata trophy would be great. A cartoony, Mii version in a pose and with a description that reminds readers of the fun and enjoyment he brought to the gaming industry would do just the trick.

Both sound great! I just think with his close ties to the Smash series, any tribute would be amazing.

I'm glad we did this, at least he knew we really did care.

Im so glad as well, the fact he got it means that, even if he didn't know who I am, my feelings reached him, along with those of everybody else who participated. That's what matters the most.

No idea about podcasts, but here's a article detailing some of the great things he did: http://www.techradar.com/news/gamin...ot-know-about-nintendo-s-satoru-iwata-1299085

Perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane.
The only thing that makes this even sadder is how the last thing we ever heard from him was a sort of soft apology regarding this year's E3.

Not sure if it's been posted already, but apparently Nintendo World is doing a little memorial service for Iwata and opened up a little area where you can write something.

Not sure how long it'll be open, but if anyone has any deets, let me know! Gonna head out around there anyway later today, but I'll probably leave earlier if it's not up for long.

EDIT: Just called them out of curiosity, looks like it'll be open for a long while, upwards to a month. So if this is a thing you would want to do, you have plenty of time to do so.

Hopefully, they'll let it up for a week so.

When we made the Get Well card for Iwata around a year ago, I drew this terrible little picture of the toads for it. It's not much, but I felt like I had to draw a picture of them saying goodbye. I wish I was a better artist, but this is all I can offer.
