This might be what I have been waiting for to finally take the step up to 1440p120/144Hz.

I am currently on a 970 with my 1080p144Hz monitor and for the most part it's good, but I could still use more power to keep games at 100+ without turning down too much.

This is beautiful. Next gen consoles shouldn't be gimped or half stepped like the current ones are. At the very least they should be able to do 4k @ 60fps by 2019.

Oh, you're in for a treat.
I'd eat my hat if that's the case with AAA titles pushing graphics.

Damn. All these graphics improvements going at once is going to give us incredible VR.

As long as you're willing to throw down the cash for it.

It's depressing thinking about how every other component of my computer would be a bottleneck for a chipset like this. That's cool knowing the transistor density be yielding improvements across the range of configurations.
I think you're grossly underestimating how GPU-limited most games are.

If you're talking 120hz+, then it's a different story.

This. Still rockin' a 1080p60hz monitor myself, and an upgrade beyond the 970 hasn't felt necessary for me because of that. I prefer single card over SLI, so with the power and memory this thing will be packing I can finally start looking at 1440p or higher with 120+ hz. Just playing the waiting game now.

I doubt very much it will be Q2. Delays etc. But this is shaping up to be very impressive. I hope NV release big Pascal early, will be a huge step, even from a 980ti.

Although I hope they allow Asus, Evga etc more time to have stock available.

Lol @ people thinking this is shipping 'early' next year. HBM2 production won't be ready until Q2 2016 alone and then Nvidia have got to get enough quantity of it to put inside their Pascal cards and then ramp up inventory.

Look at the struggles AMD are having with HBM and extremely low manufacturing volume until now. Apparently they only had around 30k Fury X cards ready for launch worldwide. 30 thousand!?!!

I predict the first Pascal card will go on sale June at the very earliest. More likely July/August.

The next few years should be exciting for graphics. Feels like we've been really fucking stagnant for years now. Hopefully HBM changes things, though we're obviously going to be being held by back consoles. I'm ready for 4k and VR!

It sounds a bit too good to be completely work out the way we want it, but I would love to see a huge leap happen. Will see what the prices and product line will be. Not having any regrets with buying my 970 because I got it for a great deal and I could sell it for more, but I did originally want to keep from buying a card until Pascal.

Will I upgrade? We'll see.

But then we're also talking DX12 and the other graphics APIS that get the CPU out of the way more than it has previously... Oh baby...

The version coming out in Q2 is most likely the next Titan ($1000+) the more affordable ($400-700) versions will probably arrive in the fall...

The jump in technology should be huge. And this is to come out in 2016? By 2019, this'll be mid to low range tech as well hopefully, which leaves quite a jump for dedicated HW should Sony and MS and Nintendo choose to go down that path

Well, the difference in power between PC and consoles will probably always be dictated by the power requirements from here on out. We wont see anymore 'special' console architecture like in previous days. So long as consoles aim for the 150w range, PC's will always maintain a pretty massive advantage in capabilities.

Although I would love to see full size Pascal releasing in Q2 2016, I don't think Nvidia would bring out Titan sized 500+mm chip on brand new 16nm process first.
Just like how Kepler launched with 680 with 28nm, I would expect mid sized flagship first in latter half of 2016 then Titan version in first half of 2017.

.......and thats why I went a 970 the other week. It'll hurt less when the next round of cards come out and stomp the ever living shit out of the current crop of cards.

With the new 20nm chips and HBM memory coming to market, didnt make sense to invest in a high end card right now when a 970 would more than do.

It'll be interesting to see how long it takes Nvidia to release a full range of cards based on HBM2. Supposedly AMD will be getting the lions share of HBM1/2 from Hynix, because of the research partnership on the technology.

So is it worth it to upgrade now to a 970gtx? I don't want to spent another 300-500€ next year, if the leap is that big.

I want some mid-high tier 16nm ~170-200W GPU with 4-8GB of HBM2 [lets say 10 TF], priced at around 350€ max.Hopefully I will get that next year from AMD.

Next years leap should be big.

Well, obviously you will still see a decent bit of money if you resell the 970. But if you're not in desperate need of the upgrade, I might just hold out and see how big the jump is.

Anyway, that sounds huge, but I'll patiently wait how much of an improvement the 1070 or whatever pose compared to the 970. 8GB paired with a good chunk of performance upgrade for 400ish bucks and I'd probably upgrade (recently switched to 1440p, so some more VRAM would be nice if anything).

Well I rock a 560 GTX TI. You tell me how desperate that is. lol I kinda want to upgrade for Witcher III and Fallout IV. I don't think other big graphics PC games are on the horizon that I really want to play. I play in 1080p and I don't need max graphics, so I might be able to play them regardless, although it won't look pretty. Decisions, decisions.

I really don't understand much of these words (new to PC gaming) but damn does it sound exciting. I'm gonna be building a new PC next year after these come out. Gonna get me a GTX 1080 or GTX 1080 Ti with a Skylake i7 or maybe even wait for Kabylake.

Can't wait.

I'm a native console gamer so what does this mean for me in the future?

32 GB should be generation proof. What ways can a game justify allocating all of this power?

Sure, nobody even has the money to try and compete with standardized hardware anymore.

But today's high end PC components are tomorrows budget hardware after all. If devs still follow the path of focusing game development on dedicated hardware of the big 3, the fidelity jump from the PS4 and the like will still be huge in general, even though PC would obviously be much further ahead by that point.

If we're going by PS4 HW standards at the time of its release, i'm wondering what the Mid range in 2019 will be to fit that PS5 for example. Japan will probably still be making PS2 level games regardless
