Until Dawn: New Trailer Lets You Take Control

There are still a lot of "fake" choices though. Just like in HR or BTS.
It looks amazing but for me it's a rental. Replay value doesn't seem high because there a lots of "forced slow walking"- moments.
It seems more like a movie where you can change or replace scenes.

It really wouldn't be a slasher tribute if you don't have sequences where people get the bright idea to go walking off far away from everyone else so that they can talk.

How are they "fake" choices if you haven't even played it? How do you know those decisions won't effect the game?

Did you watch the entire game? How do you know those choices don't have long-term consequences? How do you know the other choice wouldn't have caused a different outcome?

Lol, I don't know how to explain it without using spoilers. There are enough choices, don't worry. But not all of them will have different consequences.

Technically, only the 22 different Butterfly Effect choices directly affect the outcome of the game. These are actually cataloged in a game menu off the title screen for easy reference.

Most of the others are incidental or result in the same eventual outcome (see most of the choices in the prologue for examples of these).

A good number of these aren't just A) or B) decisions, however. There will often be a sum of decisions that trigger the eventual Butterfly Effect outcome. That much demoed E3 sequence of Sam (Hayden Panettiere's character) evading the killer in her towel has a variety of choices/decisions looped into it but the end result is only one of two possible outcomes.

Alright, I'm going to stop posting negative impressions. I'm not using spoiler tags in preview threads. There is always someone clicking/ reading it by accident.

You can post negative impression, i'm intersted in hearing them plus, if someone click on the spoiler tag, his them fault, not yours

I'm slowly learning German as I watch these streams. However, it doesn't take much to figure out what is going on action wise and through facial expressions. Graphics look great and framerate looks stable.

I almost wish they wouldn't have retained the first person perspective of PS3 version, but I understand the purpose of this new direction.

It's great to here it's been fixed up. I know a lot of people who were pretty worried about the framerate.

I'm so excited for Tuesday. :D

This game could review like garbage and I don't even care haha.

That is everything he's doing for the past two hours. You don't have dialogue options as far as I can tell.

? There seems to be a lot. Or do you not count picking how you reply to someone as a dialogue option? There seems to be a lot of "answer this with 'sarcastic' or 'comfort'" and the like.

Pretty much. I picked up Beyond despite the poor reviews (even though the game did end up disappointing me LOL). Still, I highly doubt this will review lower than Beyond, so I feel safe. : P

Lol, kind of same here. I got Beyond day 1 because I loved HR, enjoyed Beyond but it was disappointing after HR.

I obviously enjoyed it enough to play twice though (once on my own, once as a two player game with my sister). And I already know I'm playing Until Dawn at least twice (once on my own, once as a "party" with three other people so we'll each take two characters).

I havent seen any footage that had a consistently smooth framerate. I dont judge performance on streams for obvious reasons, but if the game had a solid framerate at least at some point youd see it.

The camp game?

No, there's an actual Friday the 13th game that was supposed to come out this year. But there has literally been no info on it since it was announced. The Summer Camp game has also gone silent with info ever since they announced that Kane Hodder (Jason) would play the villain.

The weird thing is... I kind of want this game to be crappy. :p I mean, it doesn't embrace the spirit of the genre if it isn't silly, over-the-top, and frequently dumb.

Ideally it will be well made, but this is one sub-genre where I will forgive it for being filled with odd choices, characters behaving erratically, and a plot sure to make one roll their eyes.

See, that's the thing about watching streams out of context.

The 22 "butterfly effects" aren't 22 different decisions, they're cataloged by chapters, 22 different chapters, they confirmed that already after the butterfly effect catalog image got out months ago, not that they needed to since we've already seen more than 22 decisions that changed the game from a few trailers alone.

Now I'm not saying the game isn't full of "fake decisions" either, but I haven't played the full game yet so I can't make that judgement, & a stream won't confirm anything until you've seen two streams, where each streamer makes a different decision, & the outcome was exactly the same.

3 reasons I am buying Until Dawn day 1...

  1. HUGE fan of all things horror.
  2. Devs are taking a risk trying something new.
  3. I enjoy having my decisions matter.

If you have the extra money, give these guys your support... They deserve it, a studio that takes risks is always a good sign IMO.

Maaaaan, I'm really dying to hear some impressions from anyone who has the game already. I'LL TAKE ANYTHING!

Currently playing through it for review on my site. It's a much better game than I had anticipated it to be. Very hard to put down!
Is the mystery well written?

Very. I mean, it's stereotypical in some areas but that's what they were going for. However, the characters are all really well done in my opinion and the mystery will keep you on your toes.
Do you think someone who isn't a fan of horror films would enjoy this?
RangeroftheNight said:
Yes. I actually read a lot of comments just yesterday about this game not being scary and all that, but as someone who jumps pretty easily, the game is doing it's job in that department.

As much as the game delves into that kind of material of horror/slasher stuff, it's quite a bit deeper in the narrative department than you might think.

Regarding length:
RangeroftheNight said:
Just finished it and to be honest, the game is going to last a different length of time for everyone based on your choices I think. The game lasted 7 hours for me and I won't say how many survived/died to save for spoilers, but I can easily see the game lasting longer. Also, it's very much worth it to find things hidden in the environment. Piecing the story together is my favorite part of the game.

How's the framerate?
RangeroftheNight said:
I've seen like one or two pop ins. Aside from that, super smooth experience.

Well now. I pre-ordered the game at a local retailer (Romania). Even though they say on the website that the release date is the 26th of August, I just got an e-mail saying it will be delivered tomorrow. :O

Hype! :D

Thanks, but I don't trust reviewers on framerate issues, I hope he's right though.

Not particularly hard to review lower than 70 these days with reviewers getting more harsh, especially towards this kind of game. Wont surprise me though if it reviews higher than The Order (which sits around 63), this game knows what it wants to be at least.

I refuse to see anything on this game. I only saw the trailer when it was originally revealed! Any additional footage of the game simply spoils the game. I hope the game does good so I can buy it!
