PewDiePie reached 10 Billion YouTube views

Regardless if they do or not, that's not hard work. It's mundane and tedious sure, but not hard.

That's a pretty big oversimplification and can be applied to most things.

That guy breaking his back at a construction site? Well he's just moving the same material over and over, so it's just mundane and tedious, not actually hard. That programmer coding your favorite AAA video game series? Well he's just playing around with numbers to see what works and doesn't work, so it's just tedious and not actually hard work. That world-renowned artist? Well he's just putting lines on paper over and over, so it's just tedious but not actually hard.

I'm not saying it's the hardest job in the world, but there's no reason to undermine it. There's a hell of a lot more to editing than just cutting and combining things, and even the most basic of the basics set me back 3 weeks trying to learn that shit between hours of frustration and shit just plain not working, almost leading to 3 broken keyboards and 1 broken monitor.

Also, read this. After that, I would never question it being considered hard work, at least for some Youtubers.

Just wait until the kids who grow up watching annoying people on YouTube are older and start to leave the house more often. Thank god VR will be hitting its stride around that time.

I just can't support a guy who makes money doing something that requires no talent. It sickens me that he makes more money than the people who make the games or people with actual meaningful jobs.

I think he has plenty of talent. It's really not easy to do what he does.

You should try to do it yourself if you think it's so easy.

Yes, I know that is still a lot of money, but another reason I mentioned the music/movie industry is there is a massive drug culture behind the scenes, not so much with youtube.

Oh ffs. Are you really this desperate to win an argument? Just concede the point already.

good for him... i mean, if he grows then gaming vlogs/etc are probably growing too so in general a growth sign for game broadcasting.

i don't really like his vids (though that SKATE one was pretty funny lol) but I tend to think of him like those actors that are on YTV children or teen shows, or whatever americans have, i guess Nickelodeon... you know, teens or low 20 somethings acting like idiots and talking to dolls... he's like a modern day Barney the extra salty purp dino. it's an act he plays up to his demographic, i'm sure. pretty good gig prob.

Dude, you are really reaching here now. Again, you're comparing editing to coding and manual labour? Waaat? There is more to editing than cutting and combining? Then please enlighten me on what else happens because that is the general definition. But the link you posted - the top-rated comment says it all, 'welcome to being a small business owner' 9-5 does not exist for them, if you want to be successful and that is the whole point. But outside of being a small business owner which generally have many overheads, there is nothing comparable to a lets player, a decent PC, microphone, a internet connection. The barrier of entry is absurdly low in comparison, and generally the measure of success is smaller, just get more subscribers and it will become more worth it.

Yup, the ability to dislike something or someone does not necessarily have anything to do with being jealous of them. Lot of people tend to forget that in these threads.

Also, neat. Not sure if thread worthy, but good for him.

I don't think its the people that dislike him that are called jealous, I suspect its these types:

Plenty of people work hard who do not even have 1/10th of his subscribers, regardless he plays games - lets not even categorise youtube as 'hard work.

At least 4 million braincells were involved across all those views combined.

The sweet combination of Salty Jelly.

massive jelousy and envy probably.

That's over-simplistic. I'm not allowed to not like him? Am I not allowed to dislike Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber? I'm not jealous of them, that's for sure.

Edit:

Guh?

Okay, I get that. Even I can conceptualize why people like PDP.

I did. Drugs, China, top industry earners, etc. I've seen enough goalpost shifting now to know you'll never give up. You've even begun a semantical side argument regarding the definition of hard work lol. Nevermind.

No offense, but this guy is just annoying as hell, and I could never understand him. Really, his channel is just screaming and playing random games no one knows about. Good for him I guess, but I'll never watch him.

Not really. I didn't like Justin Beiber, and when I was younger I used to make fun of him. But honestly, what makes your or my opinion more valid than the millions who liked him? I think he was awful, but that's just one opinion in a sea of many. I think it's really elitist to suggest that the masses are wrong just because they disagree with your opinion. Which isn't to say an unpopular opinion is wrong either. All opinions have their merit, and they all come from different places and perspectives. None of them are any better than any other

I was saying that children rule the internet, and that's where the majority of the views come from.

Each point I've posted was not one I brought up, it became a point of discussion. Comparing individuals in similar in terms of their popularity and pay and noting PDP makes far less than those people. China was also relevant when the previous poster said that the movie industry was old and established, but by all means drive-by without context. It's amusing at any rate.

As I've already stated, I've read the thread. There is no drive-by here. I fully understand the context. Based on your performance so far, though, I'm not surprised that you would make this assumption about anyone who disagrees with you. You simply can't be wrong, obviously.

Congrats to him. He deserves it. Seems like a cool guy and he makes some of the best Let's Play videos.

Screw the haters.

I hope he earns even more just to piss you lot off.

There really is no need for all the hate, at all.

?
I guess he made (some) a rape joke? God forbid.... people should go in jail for their black humor. Half of britain should be in jail already.

I like PewDiePie, I don't watch many of his (or anyones really) videos but the ones I've seen of his made me laugh.

He has a great screen presence for those kinds of reaction videos, I am not surprised at all he is popular.

Very envious, he is a lucky, lucky guy!

YouTube was a mistake, it's nothing but trash.

Don't care for him personally but I have to respect his business sense.

Same here, good business sense, what I don't like about him is that he is a reflection of the current state of the younger generation's intelligence. I just don't get this randomness, low attention span, lack of focus nonsense. There just isn't isn't any class in it. Kind of like comparing classic looney tunes to the cartoons that come out today

You do know someone said the same thing about looney tunes once upon a time, right?

So jelly, but not salty. Fame is hard to predict, and often fleeting, gotta milk that cow for all it's worth.

You're right, the barrier of entry to being a youtuber is almost non-existent, so being the most successful youtuber, facing effectively infinite competition, must mean this guy is pretty fuckin' good and works pretty fuckin' hard, no?

Not a fan of his videos but from what I've heard he's a good dude and looks like he puts in a ton of work. Good for him.
