iOS Gaming September 2015 | GOing back to school with a backlog

The iPad Pro has 4GB of ram (based on Adobe's website):
http://blogs.adobe.com/conversation...ivity-apps-during-apple-ipad-pro-keynote.html

Quite sad that the iPad Mini 4 doesn't have the A8X but instead the A8. It still seems to feature 2GB of ram thank god.

It is sad, but honestly, my Mini 2 hasn't struggled with anything I've thrown at it, unless the game had issues across the board. In fact, there's been a few games where I've read th iPad Air 2 had framerate issues with that I didn't have. I have no idea why. Probably just optimization vs raw power that caused those.

Of course that will change of devs target the new devices coming out. I think Metal has helped a lot.

Oh, of course it's nowhere near maxed at this point. Just sad that this isn't in because it would give the Mini 4 longer legs. Just like the 1GB in the iPhone 6 and the (rumored) 2GB in the 6S. It's a joke when you know what ram costs. Just Apple being Apple (read cheap), I guess.

BADLAND, also known as the gift that keep on giving, just released the update with the level editor. The possibilities are endless. I.LOVE.THIS.GAME.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id535176909

What's New in Version 3.0
The BIGGEST update in the history of BADLAND, Update #24 brings the in-game LEVEL EDITOR:
- CREATE your own BADLAND levels either by starting from scratch or modifying the official levels
- PUBLISH & SHARE your levels with the other players in the world
- PLAY and rate the levels from other players
- An ever-evolving ETERNAL DAY: We’ll choose one level each week to become part of the official game progress and feature that in the main menu for all players
- Discuss with the other level makers, share tips and watch level making tutorials at http://forum.badlandgame.com
- Constantly new levels in the LEVEL WORLD

We used the very same Level Editor to create all the official levels in the game. Now you can see how the levels were made and make your own versions of those levels easily using the same tool. Or, start from scratch and create something completely new. The possibilities are endless.

Enjoy ! Get weird ! :)

So did anyone pick up PixWing? Still wondering how good it is when played with traditional controls. Don't see me using it as an excerise program....especially using a Mini.

I was just playing it, its like Retry but in 3D and while the gyro controls are fun I prefer to touch ones, they work quite well. I like it so far, you unlock new things as you play and there are a few nice ships as well, like a rocket shark (that alone sold me).

Next, buying the new Radiangames gem.... to complete my Radiangames collection :)

In anticipation of the Steam/Siltherine re-publish of Battle of the Bulge, I started playing it again.

Still one of the best strategic games...so fast, so slick...best async head to head strategic title.

Thanks. Definately in for Devastator.

Still on the bubble with PixWing. I kind of overcommitted to beta tests right now so that's limiting my iOS space. Wonder if PixWing is coming out on Android? Might have to investigate.

If you are interested, a real life Galactic Keep even is on.

The pins (I actually already have them) are really pretty cool.

Was looking at Tiny Guardians. Anyone play it? Would probably go straight to the back long for now.

Savant-Ascent, one of iOS' most unique shooters, is also on sale for $.99. I really need to play that game again. It isn't easy.

https://itunes.apple.com/id/app/savant-ascent/id737368932?mt=8

Getting the feeling these may all be part of another Apple organized sale. If it is, Apple's editors really do have some good taste. Past sales have shown that as well.

Hard to believe Hero Emblems was just released this year. So many great games, time has flown by. Still, Hero Emblems will be near, if not at, the top of my GoTY list. If you don't have it, grab it now. A total steal for a good 20+ hour match-3 RPG that nothing comes close to touching in the genre IMO.

LOL. That's awesome!

At least someone at SE has a sense of humor.

How does it differ from the original? Loved the first one, but not in much of a hurry if it's more of the same.

it basically is as far as I can tell. i think stuff like achievements and trophies and challenges is new but the actual matching is practically identical

It's okay, people. No need to panic. The 80 Days expansion will be coming to IOS/Android on October 1st

Here are some more details:
WHAT'S COMING:
30 new cities, filling in North America, South America and Canada
New adventures and secrets:
-- to the Moon!
-- a floating First Nations village
-- play poker with a billionaire
-- discover Atlantis

And more: soar with the Levitating Atheists of Meteora Valley, explore the Pitcairn Island, discover Port Moresby, go over Niagara Falls, rekindle an icy romance, be deputy to a Sheriff of the Old West, and abandon Fogg for love

Major new world-spanning storyline: join forces with the Black Rose, Europe's most notorious jewel thief, to discover the Artificer's greatest secret

And I know I've been saying this lately, but it's great to see these threads so lively. Not even halfway through the moment and we're almost to 9 pages.

Same time last month, the thread was only 4 pages

alright I can see myself getting addicted to Puzzle Craft 2

I've started playing this and am not feeling it at all. Just feels like a bunch of farming to get arbitrary items to make things to get different things to make more things and... for what purpose? It feels like a clicker game to me, except I'm matching grasses and trees instead. I don't know about this...

The only "clicker" game I've enjoyed was A Dark Room, and anyone who's played that knows why

Enjoying Devastator, but definitely agree on wishing there were floating sticks. Think it's probably not as much of an issue on phones. Just harder on a larger screen to get used to fixed positions when so many games using twin sticks have moved to the floating option.

It's also probably radiangames most difficult game. A little uneven as some of the first few levels seemed a lot harder than later ones.

Still a great game. Can't say they've had a bad one yet.

Might want to comment to the dev on Twitter, or shoot him an email. I mentioned floating sticks to Luke on Twitter, and he said he'll consider it

Interesting... Apple just pushed the OTA upgrade but instead of Golden Master they chose iOS 9.1... the version that will arrive when the new iPhone's and the iPad Pro will be released September 16th... so I dont get to install the regular iOS version now? Ok with me... more feedback going their way... :D

And I also third-ed that Twitter chat with Luke, a floating stick will help this Radiangames gem with its devious difficulty. Kind of my favorite release since Super Crossfighter...

Also, been revisiting some games from the past and Linkoidz from Retro Dreamer is still a blast to play... a different type of fast paced match-3 with plenty of levels, endless modes, depth the further to play, a free and a premium version available... one of those AppStore hidden gems.

And so is the endless arcade from Chaotic Box, Silverfish, a favorite of mine. Sort of a spin-off the DSS genre. Works perfectly with iOS 9. And is getting some sort of new game, Silverfish DX!!! I need that. I will have two Silverfish games installed :D And is the only game that I bought 5 copies of.

Good work in thirding the floating stick option, Frost. :)

Also wanted to give props to the dev of Drylands. I was always curious about the game but was put off by the initial complaints on controls and other issues. But it's cool to see a dev who finds the need to go F2P doing the right thing - - releasing a separate app. He also did it tongue in cheek by calling the new version "Drylands: Plan B".

So I haven't downloaded it yet, but will to see what the game is all about and buy the premium version if I like it. In fact, I may buy the premium version just to support a dev for doing the right thing.

I know some devs use the excuse of having to do double the work, etc. But, as a computer programmer, I can't tell you how many times I have had to "clone" and maintain separate versions of the same program just for the sake of pleasing a customer with specialized tweaks. It's an inconvenience but it is not that big of a deal.

So hats off to Gaspar Mereu and others, like Crescent Moon and orangepixel (who did this on Android with their games) , who have done this.

I love me some Tower Defense games and played the hell out of the first Kingdom Rush. As much as the game offers, I can't support a premium game with IAP such as OP heroes. At least that's what various reviews said about Frontiers.
For what it's worth, I beat every Kingdom Rush with a free hero before supporting the devs through additional purchases.

Everyone is a little different on their stance, but I would recommend you give the game a fair shot regardless of IAP heroes.

On the subject of tower defense, I picked up Tiny Guardians and it is awesome. I was weary of getting another TD with quite a few already in my backlog. But Tiny Guardians is a really unique twist on the formula.

It's almost like a combination of reverse and regular TD games. You have to get from point A to point B and your "towers" are basically your party to fight your way to the other end. Cards determine which classes you can draw in to protect you and mana, like other TDs, determines when you can call in those helpers.

Since you can swap places for the towers/party members, it also has kind of an SRPG in wanting to keep your formation the best it can be to fight off the enemies and protect one another.

I'm early in, but really like what I'm seeing and love the combination of genres it combines.

On sale for $.99 (normally $3.99) so an easy recommendation to give it a try.

Well you sold me. I saw IAP for classes on the store page; is that just for early unlocks or those only available through IAP?

I'm not 100% sure since I'm early in the game, but the game description says the IAPs are "purely cosmetic". Also read one review that said the four classes that aren't "alternative appearance" are just to unlock early and can be earned in-game.

So hopefully that's all true. For a buck, I was willing to take the chance.

Here's a pretty good review of the game that explains the game concept better:

http://www.gamezebo.com/2015/04/17/tiny-guardians-review-tower-defense-reinvented/

It also brings up the art similarity to Kingdom Rush, which is true, but they are way different from one another and anyone who says it's a KR clone has not played the game.

So it's a lot like Anomaly then? That sounds great :)

None that I know of, sadly. But if you find one, let me know!

I'm guessing you all know about this one but I'm posting it just in case:

Sold me too, although your review didn't mention the thing that really got me to push the buy button and that is the cold dead eyes that all the characters are rocking.

It's similar but a little more dynamic. You don't know exactly where your enemies will attack and have to move your party around accordingly. Making use of the right classes in the right position at the right time.

My pleasure! :) I also think it will be a great addition to the game.

Nice to see someone also posting longer impressions/reviews, this sold me as well, now to see if it goes to the backlog or my iPhone :)

And yes, Savant-Ascent is really nice.

Just FYI, Calvino Noir just got another great update....improved behaviors (game is a lot easier now but more fluid and maybe more enjoyable from 'new' generations) and a great 'link characters' button (you can now move them together...very useful in some maps).
