Sony : Paris Games Week press conference dated

I am not familiar with Shahid. Anyone mind filling me in on why he is so lamented?

He's part of the Strategic Content group at SCEE, working with indies and publishers to release/port/localise their games on Sony's systems and they've been pretty successful at that (No Man's Sky, Hotline Miami, Tales of Hearts R and Spelunky are just a few of them). He gets criticised a lot because he's enthusiastic, isn't a miracle worker, was misled by Square Enix's stupidity and some people like to quote his tweets as if he's a leaker.

That didn't stop the guy I quoted getting excited based on the tweet though. I responded to him, not Shahid.

If that were the case, simply pointing out that it's probably related to his job would be enough, you don't have to accuse Shahid of "hype mongering" and "anti-megatons" (whatever those are).

Can we also just ascertain that Shahid most likely got Final Fantasy Type-0 HD in existence for the Vita, as both the blog post announced and Shahid's excitement on Twitter confirming that was the Vita JRPG he had been teasing. Up until later the day that Square-Enix retracted the announcement for Vita and Shahid seemed in a sort of panic to undo the talk about Type-0 HD for Vita, something like he was worrying for his job or something, I forget.
Clearly, the Vita was a real port but for some unknown reason, it was pulled. That's not on Shahid.

The guy is genuinely passionate and excited with his job and getting small developers on PS4. With some tweets taken out of context like the 1080p60 which was in context of Indie's, or the reminder of Type-0, the guy has done a lot of work and truly cares.

Deep down?

Last we heard was that the game wasnt cancelled but was going through a major overhaul. Ono said they were going to show something "completely different" so its going to to take sometime.

Though he still said the game was going to be "online focused"

Deep down, we all know it's cancelled.

Shahid is awesome. Very passionate guy that tried his damned hardest for the Vita.

In any case, I can't wait to see what Sony has to show. Their gamescom shows have always had a lot of variety.

i kinda dig it but without the pewdipie stuff on it.

Yeah, it actually looks quite nice as just a birthday themed controller. Would be cool if Sony sold them via the PlayStation Gear Store and let you engrave someone's name on it.

Awesome. Wonder if they're going to be continuing with #buildingthelist.

Not really the thread for this, but Mark Norris from GG talked about Aloy traversing around in Horizon

“The reality is, a certain size of the world I think demands a mount, right? We take a look at a world like The Witcher, which is an enormous world, we take a look at a world like Skyrim, which is 41 square kilometers, and they’ve added mounts.

We take a look at GTA or Saints Row, those are games that have cars, right? So they have “mounts.”

We’re not ready to talk about the different ways that Aloy moves around the world, but what I can guarantee is, it’s not just walking and running. Certainly, she gets around the world in a couple of different ways.”

holy shit god damn

Definitely not an STD, as I'm a pure.
Whenever Shahid says something it just deflates my hype. He has a history hyping up nothing. I hope to at least see what Quantic Dream and David Cage are up to. Also More Horzion footage would be awesome.

Ever consider that things you get excited for doesn't equate stuff he gets excited for? Think about that for a fucking second. "Hyping up nothing." Psch. He hypes things thats nothing to but are is something in other people's perspective.

I get your point, he is a dude that teases a lot, and sometimes people dont really dig the stuff he is heavily teasing. And the Vita Type 0 situation was a fiasco, no doubt there, Its just that I like most of the stuff he signs and talks about, that is why I am excited. And he is in a high positin within SCEE.

But I understand your vision upon his ways and his past acts.

I think the fact that he is in a high position is exactly why some people have a tendency to expect more than he delivers.

But if you like the games that he signs then good for you. And I don't mean that in a condescending way. I wish I could say the same.

And why don't you EVER ever stop being a jerk about Shahid's genuine excitement over the independent devs he is bringing to PlayStation? After all, he had a major roll of getting hello games to bring No Man's Sky to ps4. He recently signed couple of PSVR games and non PSVR games for ps4. Im curious to see what they are.

Look the dude has made some blunders in the past, and he knows that. He's trying his best not repeat those mistakes and we should respect that. And we should not be THAT GUY that brings up his irrelevant past blunders over and over and over again.

Why don't I stop ever being a jerk about Shahid? Hyperbole much? These last couple of pages are probably the most critical I've ever been of him, and that's only because, now that all this time has passed since he became a known figure, I feel like I can step back and judge accordingly how significant his biggest signings have been. I've actually been quite supportive of him in the past and I'm not even close to being among his biggest detractors.

I will confess, I didn't know he was the one responsible for bringing No Man's Sky to the PS4. Kudos to the man in that case. A big reason why he was able to accomplish that was no doubt due to Hello Games' previous success with Joe Danger on the PS3, but still, it was good that he pursued that particular project.

But Acquiescence was wronged by Shahid because of two posts on twitter. Now we have to hear about this injustice for 4 years.

Clearly this is the proper way to act.

More like two years of chest beating on Twitter and a whole lot of shrugs in response. But really, I'm not that fussed about it, and I don't why some people are acting like this is something I've been harping on about time and time again. That just isn't true, and such claims are unfounded. All I'm saying is, as a general rule of thumb, curb your excitement when Shahid brings out the exclamation marks, that's all. That's what history has taught me.

If that were the case, simply pointing out that it's probably related to his job would be enough, you don't have to accuse Shahid of "hype mongering" and "anti-megatons" (whatever those are).

It's not his job to post on Twitter, which is where most of his damage has been done, and nobody's forcing him to either. How often do you see Adam Boyes take to his account to boast about the new third-party project he has signed and how amazing it is. To my knowledge he doesn't. He just goes up on stage and let's the reveal speak for itself. He understands that it's best to show, not tell.

Right, I'm not going to talk about Shahid anymore in this thread. People seem to be getting the wrong impression by thinking I'm baying for his blood or something, and I don't want to cause anymore friction.

hope we get no GR2 information now to spite Acquiescence :p

Hey come on now, that's just going too far.

Aww yiss, I love this guy. Hopefully he brings with him another #BuildingTheList treat or two to whip out of his big sack.

Shenmue HD pls.

Lol. As if you weren't hyperbolic about shahid being an "Anti hype monger" and what not.

Sigh..

1st we all argue about Kratos and now about shahid.

Let's try to focus on PGW speculation, predictions, and wishes.

People getting hyped, but is there any reason to? I can't think of anything too exciting at PGW that they wouldn't otherwise announce at PSX.

PGW and PSX are focused on two different regions. The announcements in one wouldn't necessarily carry over to the other. On top of that, Sony didn't have a Gamescom conference this year. So, they still have plenty to announce across both shows.

gamescom last year had a great show, the problem is E3 this year.....had a dream fucking show and will probably not be topped in a long, long time.

Sony made the same distinction which I find strange. Other than pricing, what announcements at Gamescom haven't translated to the U.S. audience? This and E3 are always basically for the entire West.

1 day and 17 hours left until we (maybe) get a release date for Rime, my hype is off the roof!!

.. Well, I'm not really hyped, it's just.. to be honest with you GAF, after I got what I wanted (TLG re-reveal) I'm kinda like eh whatever with these conferences. I can't feel the hype no more.

We could get release dates for RIME, Shadow Of The Beast and Alienation, but I think that will only be the case if the game is close to launch. Just look how Sony has dealt with its digital first party titles. Rapture got a release date 2 months before launch, and I dont think any of those games are releasing in 2015.

The US audience & EU audience have very different tastes in terms of games. Putting it in a reductionist simple way, the US audience likes MS's first party games while EU likes Sony's.

I'm guessing this game is dead?

No, but they had to rework it almost from scratch so will need some patience. And being F2P will need a bigger userbase so it's better for them to release it once PS4 has a huge installbase.

I assume we'll need to wait until at least 2016 or 2017 TGS to see it again.

I know what you're getting at, but still find it a bit strange to essentially put a disclaimer that this is intended for European audiences. I also wouldn't say that U.S. and Europe have "very different tastes". There are a TON of U.S. gamers who adore the types of games announced at Gamescom. I'd actually be curious to see sales data for North America compared to Europe for the types of games announced at Gamescom v. E3. North America leans a little more to the shooters that Microsoft makes, but not enough in my opinion to make a major distinction. Especially comparing U.S. and UK.

You don't think they will announce PS1/PS2 support on the PS4? That's the only thing that I really hope to see at the event. I wanna know what the deal is with the leaked and announced PS2 games on PS4 and how all that is gonna work out.

I think they will for one reason and one reason only. As they've already been announced, we know that Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter (all PS2 games) will be coming to PS4 with trophy support (same as Super Star Wars, but that has never been on Sony console before). They were announced as part of the Star Wars: Battlefront PS4 Bundle, and it was confirmed they will be available to purchase on the PSN store separately. Since they won't come out until November 17th at the earliest (Battlefront's release date), that gives Sony time to announced proper PS1/PS2 support for PS4 and Paris Games Week would be the place to do it.

Look at how Halo & Gears sell in Europe. Or how Uncharted & Gran Turismo sell in the US. The difference isn't small either.

I wouldn't consider the difference major to be honest. Notable, yes. But not enough to label the regions very distinct in terms of tastes and needing conferences with different focuses. PS4 owners in the U.S. love Uncharted very similar to Europe and are equally anxious for news.

And I actually mean more in terms of the smaller games announced at Gamescom, since Europe is supposedly the intended audience more than the U.S.

The argument doesn't even really hold weight anyway. Look at the E3 announcements. They were nothing like the Halo or Gears games that the U.S. audience apparently wants. I think E3 is just the biggest show in terms of media coverage and so the bigger games get announced there, leaving the smaller ones for Gamescom.

Uncharted 3's first month shipments were 5 million, & it sold about ~850k on NPD, another example is Metal Gear Solid 4, first month sales were about ~4.5 million, & it sold about ~1 million on NPD, the difference isn't small.

And I actually mean more in terms of the smaller games announced at Gamescom, since Europe is supposedly the intended audience more than the U.S.

Sony does announce smaller games at E3, but the games they announce at Gamescom usually fare better in Europe, that doesn't mean those games don't sell at all in the US, but they sell significantly better in Europe. Just like how Japanese games get announced at TGS, usually they sell great in the west too, but they still sell significantly better in Japan.

It's honestly less so about audiences but a strategic segmentation of announcements between SCEA, SCEE and SCEJA across 6 different conferences Sony holds every year.

Sorry bro but you saying it's not releasing this year doesn't stand up to them saying it does. They're the devs, you're not. Sean has said specifically '2015' on multiple occasions, granted not recently, but he's also been cagey with actual information about the game itself save a few recent gameplay demos. And by the way, I'm not saying that it WILL release in 2015, only that we have no reason to believe anything else, at this point in time.
Ask Persona fans how this works out...

Yeah. This is how I see it too. Obviously Japanese games are announced at TGS. Then that leaves E3, Gamescom, and PSX as the major ones for the West. E3 has the most media coverage and buzz, so it gets the biggest announcements. The remaining, smaller announcements are left for Gamescom and PSX. North American v. European audience factors in a little but not much since the audiences are quite similar. It's really about the size and buzz related to the shows themselves.
