Zombi - Pure Survival Horror is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC [ZombiU Port]

The Wii U version is the best version especially if you want the multiplayer mode (which is cut from all of the other versions) The gamepad also adds nice intangibles that make the experience more enjoyable and immerses you more.

Ok, in the planet where I live, a 30 fps, 720p with limited FOV game can't be better than the same game at unlocked framerate/resolution with variable FOV. Regardless of whether a secondary game mode has been removed. Those are aspects that affect directly the way you can enjoy the game, more important than the inventory being in front of your eyes or your hands.

the combat seems really lame to far compared to games like Dead Island and Dying Light. the melee lacks oomph.

Which is the point. You're playing a frightened survivor, a fat teacher or whatever. He screams in fear with every blow and actually only gets better the more you use the weapon.

This is not Dying light. Its a survival simulator.

Just checked, and the retail version still costs 40€. =/ Damn, it takes ages for it to go below 30€. Has there been any word about a GOTY edition? I might just as well wait for it, if there's one coming.

As for the resolution, it just rubs me the wrong way when some information is held back until the release date. Skyrim's problems on the PS3 being a prime example. People should have the opportunity to make an informed decision about what they're buying.

I haven't heard anything about a GotY edition - but the game sold over 5 million copies, so it's very likely indeed.

While I agree it isn't cool when a game doesn't meet the quality you expect, it's not as simple as them 'holding back information'. Often the release-build quality of a videogame cannot be known (to a surprisingly significant extent) up until even the month before release. I don't think you can blame Techland for that. I'm aware of big-budget games that didn't even work until a few weeks before release, at all, but the developers just pulled it out the bag in time (Uncharted 2 is one - didn't work at all very close to release, and they thought it would be a huge failure right up until those last weeks).

Techland were probably aiming for 1080p right up until release week, and only then realised that they couldn't reach it on some platforms. And it's not like an announcement would be appropriate, or even easy to make, at that stage.

Also, the game still worked 100% and looked brilliant at release. I don't think that's comparable to Skyrim on PS3 where the end product was clearly mismanaged at a high level, featuring significant game-breaking bugs and code errors that, AFAIK, never got patched. That's just pure false equivalence.

Dying Light is better than Dead Island in every single way, except perhaps for the lack of vehicles (which you don't even notice because it's got brilliant parkour mechanics).

It is a lot scarier with the gamepad. For example the ghost shows up on your gamepad and gives you a good jump scare. No one was expecting that at the time. Also, I hear that the FOV was changed on the new versions and it makes the game less scary

That's cool and all but a ghost zombie is still really stupid. Could have just thrown a horde of zombies down there and it would have been more intense.

Which is the point. You're playing a frightened survivor, a fat teacher or whatever. He screams in fear with every blow and actually only gets better the more you use the weapon.

The melee is just really crappy though, it's just one over head swing animation x1000. Could have done with a load more animations, better hit feedback and more zombie hit reactions seeing as you spend most of the game doing it.

Yeah, it's nowhere near the level of Skyrim debacle, but I still think it's a better way to handle these things with a certain sense of transparency, before the product is released to the public.

I'll be trying the game when the demo is released.

Uncharted 2 having significant issues around the release is news to me, as I bought the game after playing TLOU, and UC3 when it came available on PS+.

4-5 hours into the game, I ran into a game breaking crash 1 hour in (after getting the first survivor killed) and still the game is climbing high on my GOTY list. So good.

Was quite happily surviving with just the one guy until the sniper part. Fuck that woman. Seriously. If I had been doing a no-death run I probably would have snapped my DS4 in twain. So frustrating.

Time to move I guess ;) He explained a few lines above only one of the neat things you are also missing. That part was nightmare-material for me. So yes, it can.

I'm guessing there's no way of getting this baby above 60 fps. My 144 Hz Gsync monitor wants it. I heard the ini was encrypted. Downscaled 4K at 60 fps is nice and all, but even higher framerate would really up the tension for me.

Do they ever explain why in the Nursery
there's a ghost zombie just chilling in the basement?
Like I know the plague is meant to come from God and everything, but not digging a
supernatural
vibe.

For what it's worth you also have the
birds taking down the helicopter when you first get picked up at the tower.
I may be forgetting other supernatural elements. Obviously John Dee being psychic too would count.

Finished this yesterday. Was kinda disappointed with the ending as I thought the game was hitting it's stride at the 8 hour mark, half an hour later I'd finished it! Also, the actual fighting with zombies wasn't difficult at all and I always had plenty of ammo or grenades for hordes, pretty sure most of my 6 deaths were those bullshit exploding zombies or blowing myself up with mines. Can only hope Ubisoft get around to making a sequel though.

Am I just missing something or have I encountered a bug?

End game spoilers:
I just tore out the scientist's eye and have to go to that eye scanner thing. I found a shortcut after getting the eye, so I used it to go back to the science lab shortcut since that's the closest to the scanner. I go there and the door that leads out of the lab to the main room is locked, another door leads to a room with a broken bridge and blocked off stairs, so a dead end, and I don't get a button prompt when I go back to the shortcut so I can't leave.

There should be an air vent that opened up with a zombie crawling through when you head round through the door towards the broken bridge..

Same here, felt like i was around mid point through at 7 or 8 hours in. Only to find out there was just one mission left. Kinda sucked, really enjoyed what was there though, but it felt like a 60/70% realized game, and then they had to wrap it up, development wise. Even a well paced story could of made whats there now, feel more complete.

I can't say if my experience is exactly like that, but I had a game-breaking bug right around that part on the Wii U version and there's no way around it. Sorry.

That's terrifying if they haven't managed to fix it for this version.

The game is much too short for its own good, that's for sure. I'm still hoping and praying for a sequel one of these days, because there's so much room for improvement.

I'm close to the end of the game now and I'm starting to hate it. The storyline is basically non-existent, most of the areas look bad, the idea of scanning your surrounding is dumb (is my character a psychic since he knows what's in the zombie's pocket or inside a container?), travelling between zones is very confusing at times and the game is trying to come up with creative ways to make your life harder like taking away your gear or putting you against exploding zombies in small areas. Oh, and the requirement to collect all the documents to get to the finale is the most idiotic way to extended the game's length. This is by far the worst purchase I've made on PS4. :/

I'm enjoying the hell out of it too. I'm only about 3 hours in and having a blast. Some really tense moments.

Wow, really enjoying this much more than I did when I played it on the Wii U, probably because of the pad. Just up to the
flats
and lost two survivors so far. One during the
turret section after getting the lock pick....i knew what was coming but fucked up and ended up being killed in the safe house
and the other
in Buckingham palace after wrongly entering the key code on that wall, handled most of them well and ended up with two zombies, used R2 to kill one while on the ground, but then post crushing animation another zombie grabbed me and dragged me to the ground. I still had half an energy bar, so was rather pissed off about that!

Well I assume the device is whats telling your character whats in teh containers....so the device is clearly high tech shit

Ran into the basement crash, which kinda sucked. Made making out of the situation more scary though on the second try.

Despite the crashes, I really like the game
The nursery jump scares were kinda cheap though

Finished the game, TL:DR: Awesome game, kinda shitty PC port

Endgame spoilers spoiler'd:

I really enjoyed the game, gameclock above says 6 hours but Steam time says 9... I think it was closer to ~6.5 hours because of following reasons:

1. I ran into a permacrash after getting killed for the first time: 1 hours lost and and 1 hour to debug until restarting

2. Crash in the nursery (but recovering from this only took around ~10 minutes)

3. Crash in the
ending section tunnels: threw a grenade, it just bounced to the floor, game crashed. Only maybe 5 minutes there because LUCKILY I had a save in near the turret section: going back to that area after dying was not only confusing but really hard.

Overall, like I said, I really, really liked the game. Missed couple of C4's (I think) so I couldn't blow some stuff up in
Buckingham Palace
and I didn't care to find all the 4 paintings: other than that I found most everything. At some parts the game was a bit vague in which direction to go
the gasoline station part
but otherwise it really scratched that Dark Souls itch. One big minus for the repeated environments: why were there like 10 of those "ladder, hole in the wall, metro station" parts?

The game was really, REALLY tense. Like some say the weapons, especially the guns lack oooopmh, but otherwise the game has totally awesome sound design. The graphics are okay, but the cutscene videos have been packed with the shittiest Bink compression (I guess) they could find. I like the gameplay too, I can see why not everyone would be a fan of that. I only died 3 times, 2 of those at the exact same spot to an exploding zombie which was weird (
I think when going back to that little island area to reach some place, maybe that gasoline station?).

The missions were fun, the pacing was great except for the
ending sequence. It was just... too long and too tense, with zombies coming from every side. It got me sweating though, so I guess that was good. I also didn't like the repeated paranormal zombie x 2 in the last palace section.
. Some of the enemies
like all of the special enemies
were kinda annoying in retrospect
which was kinda weird game design: I counted 3-4 of those lightning zombies and 2 of the paranormal ones. So they could have been just boss fights.
. Seriously, fuck those explosive enemies. The
arena section was kinda weird too. It had this Walking Deadish plottwist that was solved in very Walking Deadish way: by doing pretty much nothing.
. Also the ending
was really abrupt: shoot the most quiet turret in the world, run to a door, shitty quality movie plays which I didn't really understand. Prepper picked up another guy? Okay, but wasn't place firebombed just now? At least the epilogue was surprising.

For the sequel I would want: less run and gun sections, less hectic sections, more creepy Zombi'ing and
less paranormal zombies.
. Basically, just more of Vanilla Zombi. If you like horror games or Dark Souls or just permadeath games in general, Zombi is a must buy.

I don't get the game being short complaints. When I first played, I kind of role played it and was very slow and methodical since it was so tense. I must have easily clocked closer to 20 hours

I don't think it was short. I think it was ~just right~. It was very well paced
sans the last quarter

Tip to myself. Do not hit
exploding zombies
on the head with a shovel. Encountered it from behind and just whacked it. I lol'd.

Was enjoying the game a lot until I had to collect Dee's letters. Why make that quest mandatory? It brings the game to a screeching halt.

I never really noticed that, mostly because I had found most of them before I could reach them. Only one that I had to look for was the one in the market

So I've heard people hyping up the nursery section since the original Wii U release. Finally got there expecting big things, really good environment and all that but
was the part in the basement with the ghost zombie the bit people hyped up? It really fucking sucked, like a ghost zombie? What?

Is this something that only happens once, or is it multiple times throughout the game? I recall encountering it in the Wii U demo, and thought it was so dumb I didn't continue playing. It just seemed so out of place that it ruined the mood.

There's a
fight versus two of them after the point of no return
which is even more out of place.

Just bought Zombi for playing tonight, I hope it's good!
Though as someone who enjoyed Activision's The Walking Dead I can't imagine I won't like it.

Bought the game last night and enjoying it so far but these framerate drops on the PS4 version are pretty bothering :/

Specially the outdoor section outside of Buckingham Palace :/

Not quite sure what you're talking about. Besides the frame drops during lightnings, it's been consistent 30fps throughout. It's that or I'm far more forgiving with performances.

The gamepad was such an important asset in the WiiU version since it had the map and radar to help find zombies. Having it lose it's function for a bit at that point after using it for awhile is scary.

I just got the crossbow in the palace, I noticed there's a scope on it but how do I zoom in? Is it something where I have to level it up to be able to use the scope or something?

edit:nvm found it :p

Damn I hate missing with this thing with how limited bolts are

Finishing up my second playthrough, and that last sequence (after leaving all of Dee's letters in), that last sequence man... what a fucking chore. The game becomes so cheap with the way it throws swarms of Z's at you in tight spaces, and very vague direction where exactly to head to. So much potential for easy death and backtracking in that section compared to the entirety of the rest of the game.. somewhat unbalanced. i think if i go in for a 3rd go im turning it off after Dee's letters DAMMIT!!!. Fuck that last section.. Rant over.

I agree: the last part goes on waaaay too long and it has way too many enemies for it's own good. I enjoyed the tactical parts way more.

For sure, its balls to the walls, throw everything at you for that last section. Tactics go out the window and panic ensues. I know theres no checkpoint system in the game, and thats cool, i really enjoyed the way they handled the new character for each death. But at the end it can drag on, specially if you get killed afew times with lots of backtracking.

I died for the second time in the last section and the route back was kinda weird too

I died multiple times in the last section (2, maybe 3)... but i managed to avoid any deaths from them exploding guys throughout entire second playthrough, which was no.1 cause of death on my first playthrough. So i learnt something first time around =P

I had no idea this game was only £15 on PS4...very tempting...I did play a bit on WiiU, liked the atmosphere but got a bit frustrated early on, I figured it was the stupid controls...how does this compare?

It's bad enough that you can't drop the starting pistol, but not being able to drop the cricket bat in favor of the superior shovel and/or baseball bat just takes the piss. There's literally no reason whatsoever--none!--to use the cricket bat over either of those weapons. Talk about sloppy game design. Did they even bother thinking about how the new weapons would affect the game beyond granting players better melee capabilities?

Agree. Ubisoft should've played Condemned for some inspiration.

This game. This f-ing game. I swear it wants me to hate it.

I played the Wii U version before or at launch, and enjoyed it for the most part. It was my most anticipated Wii U launch title, too.

I got to the moment of no return, pushed past it and then died in a vent. Then, when I tried to fast travel back to near that point, I was greeted with fully reset fast travel points. By that, I mean that I had none and had to hack the door leading to the one in the safe house again.

This pissed me off and I stopped playing the game. I criticized it heavily, too. Ended up going back months later and beat it, but it took two or three hours because of the glitch.

Well, it happened to me again tonight, in this version. Stupid game.

I got overwhelmed as I was trying to escape an area, then was greeted with reset fast travel points. I got pissed off, but ploughed through and beat it.

I won't be playing this buggy thing again, though.

I had horded a whole bunch of health as I normally do, and had been having no problem finding my body if I died. But then I died twice and lost my ten med kits. I only found one in the remainder of the game. I guess I should've put them in the box, but I liked having them on me. It was stupid, but oh well.

It's not a bug. You must travel to the area with the first turret section in the game. In that area you'll find a new open manhole cover which leads you to back to your body. I know, I was confused as shit too, but there's only one way you can go there. It's just a surprisingly long way to get back to your body. It's not explained very well, but after all it's point of no return: other choice would have been to spawn you back to the castle thing, but that would not really fit the theme either.

I had no idea there was a new manhole there. The game never told me or gave me an indicator on the map -- at least not that I saw.

I wasn't expecting it to teleport me right back to where my body was, or even to the point of no return. I just wanted to fast travel to the palace undergound and work my way to the elevator again. But it wouldn't let me do that.

It did the first time I perished in the point of no return, but not afterwards.
